Food was amazing, atomsphere is dark and homey, service was attentive and accommodating. Make sure you have a reservation, it's usually pretty busy. We definitely will be back.
We have been coming here for our wedding anniversary every year .. you never fail to dissapoint with food options, service , and atmosphere. Always recommend to family and friends.
The food was excellent except that the veal was difficult to chew. Perhaps because it was grass-fed veal which is ok but needed a sharper knife to cut it. The drinks are a little on the expensive side but it should help to keep you limited and not have too much to drink.
Service was fantastic and attention to detail was perfect. We will return.
Best food in town! Everything was spectacular! Love the Tailor and The Cook!
We drive through Utica a couple times a year on our way to NYC, and every time we go for dinner at Tailer & the Cook. Our whole family enjoys good food made with local ingredients which is why we're always so excited to have dinner here. The menu changes depending on the season, but the chefs always knock it out of the park, not to mention their unique cocktails that simply fantastic. Beyond cocktails, their craft beer and wine list (which boasts local wines that are perfectly paired with your meal) offer a great variety that's sure to include something to everyone's liking. I can't say enough good things about this place, keep doing what you're doing, because we plan to keeping coming back again and again!
Other than the bar tender not knowing the difference between sweet and dry vermouth the experience was fun, upscale, special, delicious, and worth the price. Great service and lovely atmosphere
The menu has unusual entrees that were exceptional in preparation and taste. Service was impeccable.
It was our 25th anniversary and they treated us very special! All staff interactions were outstanding! Food was great too!
Excellent overall experience. Vegan risotto not amazing, but a valiant effort. Cheese board, salads, bread, desserts all fantastic. Yummy cocktails. Service a little slow, but was later in the evening, so I think some servers had gone home for the night. Definitely worth the drive and loved hearing about the origins of all our food!
We were treated so well that we felt entirely as if it were a very special evening, when all it was was a Monday. We were thrilled and grateful and ate the best meal perhaps ever in a restaurant. Fabulous.
I think this restaurant is the best restaurant in the Syracuse/Utica area. It reminds me of a good bistro in the Soho or West Village in NYC. Same ambiance and food quality. Only Defi Restaurant in Syracuse is similar but not quite up to Taylor and the Cook Yet. Other "higher end" restaurants in Syracuse area serve very good food but I don't remember what I ate a week later. At Taylor and the Cook, I will..
Literally the best service I’ve ever experienced. So attentive, smooth and coordinated.
We drove 50 miles to have a special Anniversary dinner with friends and it was well Worth it. Will make it a regular part of our dining options . The food was great, presented beautifully and the service was wonderful! There were two minor things that could have been better but they did not change the whole wonderful experience. One was that we didn’t get ice with our water and the fried polenta was over cooked. Can’t wait to return!
Food and ambiance were great as usual but the service was not what we have come to expect. Despite having a reservation and being on time for that reservation we waited at our table for 45 minutes before having to ask the host for drinks. We then waited another 15 minutes to be greeted by our waiter. Although we understand the nature of a busy restaurant the wait and lackluster apology were disappointing.
Our 2nd time and it was as great as the first. Highly recommended
We had the absolute best time! Left on a high! The maple butter was to die for.
Tailor and the Cook never disappoints! We live on Long Island and we are surrounded by delicious food with being near NYC and your restaurant is at the top of our favorites. We make it a point to visit Tailor and the Cook once or twice a year when we visit family and we rave about it on Long Island to anyone traveling upstate. Hands down one of the best restaurants in New York State! Tim and Steve and the rest of the staff should be proud of what they are a part of...5 Stars.
Perfect spot for a special occasion. Service was excellent and every bite of food was delicious.
Everything was perfect. Food is always incredible and the wait staff obviously love their jobs! Wish it wasn't a 4.5 hour drive from home or we would be there far more frequently. Thank you for the perfect end to our vacation!
Great atmosphere, service and food. I look forward to coming again when I'm in the valley!
Service was great as usual. The quality, taste and presentation of the food was very good. Our party of four had wine, beer and our favorite espresso martinis!
My issue with my food was the price to portion size ratio.
I ordered the veal shank which consisted of four-five small medallions. We have been eating here since they first opened and usually eat her every other month or so. Lately it appears that the prices have gone up slightly and the portion size has shrunk considerably.
Disappointing to say the least. Service was slow, inattentive (but polite and energetic). Prices suggest the highest quality. All four of us were disappointed in the main courses. The Brazilian version of a paella was held too long and the fish and seafood were overcooked. The noodle dish was simply not very tasty. The sesame bread from Utica Bread was outstanding, and the wine list is well thought out and very fairly priced.
The noise level is simply unacceptable for a fine dining experience. We could barely hear each other during the entire meal.
We brought friends from out of town, they were pleased with the food and the service. As a regular T&C diner, I also noted the unusually attentive service during this visit. Excellent experience.
We haven't been in a while, they still need to do something about the smoke from the open kitchen area. All you can see and smell. Only negative!
Wonderful experience. Great food, good service, nice ambience.
The whole vibe was great. Service was excellent and the food was good.
Love coming here every time we make the trip up to our vacation home. Came here for a little girls night out with my mom over the weekend! The food is AMAZING and the staff are beyond friendly. Our waitress was named Emily, and she was now only knowledgeable of the food and combinations, but she was fun and made our dining experience a perfect night out!
I have been here at least 6 times now and am always amazed at how well they do literally everything. There is literally no comparison to any other regional restaurant in quality, service or the food. My only complaint is the food is so good I never have any leftovers because I just cant stop eating.
Our server was Doug this time and he was simply awesome in providing us the exact experience we wanted, so thanks Doug. Not that any server there does not do the same but he was great.

There was not one thing our party of four did not enjoy and we tried quite a few things we had never had. It was superb from beginning to end. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and nice. Can’t wait for another special occasion to go there. We drove over an hour and it was absolutely worth it.
As usual; great food and service. Brought friends from California and they loved it!
Amazing food and excellent service! I no longer live locally but every time I am in Utica, this is a must for dinner!
All the courses were served in a timely manner and Todd? was very knowledgeable about the food. Sorry, terrible with names.
We have eaten dinner there twice before and had wonderful experiences. This time was different-unfortunately. We went to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary.
Waitress was very busy, to the point where a drink order retrieval had to be asked for after a noticeable delay.
My entree of Roast Leg of Veal was not as expected, with small medallions of meat. My wife’s appetizer of Lamb and Rye meatballs was over salted. Her entree of Brazilian Moqueca stew sauce had an unlikeable flavor. Not sure if it was due to the whey or mizuna.
However, the green house salad was exceptionally delicious.
Since it takes us an hours drive to get there, I doubt we will ever be going back.
We live in San Francisco and were specifically interested in what local seasonal ingredients were being featured. Having grown up and left the area over 40 years ago, we we pleasantly surprised. This place is a diamond in the rough. The cheeses were excellent from local artisans. The Hermann Reisling had a dry and smooth bright finish. I wish I could have tried more. The greens and vegetable sides were well spiced and so dress. The servers were knowledgeable, attentive and pleasant. Great job everyone. Much success to you and your community of artisans. This would be the reason we would return!
Been here a couple times, and they are great. Service is A1, never had to wait long for anything, everyone is friendly. The only thing that killed it for me for ambiance was the lingering smoke in the dining area. I don't remember it being like that the other times I went there? Part of the kitchen is just over a 5 foot wall adjacent to the dining area, but maybe the fume hoods weren't performing as intended... There was a constant lingering burnt smell in the dining area, and it was present before dinner even picked up. Hope they take care of that because it kills the environment a bit.
Always creative and delicious! They never disappoint.
ITS ALWAYS TOP NOTCH. OUR WAITER BLARE WAS AMAZING
Perfect in just about every way. Welcome, service, timing were impeccable. Food itself was simply outstanding. The menu draws from local farmers and is seasonal. Only drawback was it’s a little noisy, but happy diners all having great meals and a great time! We were a bit concerned about the New York wine list but no need to worry. The wines went beautifully with the courses. Can’t wait to go back!
Always a great experience at Tailor n Cook. Top notch in service, food, drinks! We always try a couple different appetizers n entrees and of course the incredible dessert choices.
The neighborhood aside, this nice good setting to spend an evening out with close friends. Menu is creative and a genuine attempt was made to incorporate ingredients & recipes from multicultural sources. For that I give credit, but the outcome, unfortunately, was only mediocre. The pork Katsu, for instance, was below what most oriental restaurants, and the clam was on par with only those seafood restaurants on the lower end. What the tastes of dishes lacked, nonetheless, was far more than being made up by the exemplary services of the waiting staff. They are well trained, courteous, considerate. Our waiter taking the order was circumspect and inquisitive without being impolite, and attentive without being intrusive. That's why I would give the overall experience a very good one. If I am passing by the area, I will not mind returning to eat again - as long as I find safe parking within the restaurants immediate neighborhood.
