I had reviewed the wine list online, and it is excellent. I ahd read the menu on line, and the prices were those of a fine restaurant. I was hugely disappointed. I knew what wine I wanted to order (by glass) and our waiter suggested that my guest have a different wine, actually less expensive. I said no, I think we would like what I had ordered. He kept it up, and said that the wine he suggested was very good and his friend is its representative. As if that would make me want to order his buddy's wine? I was very put off by this. The cooking is very basic, not imaginative. My rack of lamb was generous in portion but the presentation was like a cafeteria. The desert, was great. Perhaps I was just out of my element, as I normally dine in downtown L.A. or the westside, and hate to come off as a snob, but at these prices, the customers should expect more. Next to us was a table of 5 or 6 women in their 80's and perhaps this simple cooking is meant for them. Not for me.

I visited this restaurant because my date proclaimed it was her favorite place (she's a big fan of prime rib). While I might not recommend the oysters rockefeller, I would highly recommend the prime rib, the blue cheese mashed potatoes and the broiled asparagus. The cooking of the prime rib was not entirely consistent- we both ordered medium, one came out med. rare and one came out med. well, but even the med. well (yes, I took the bullet on that one) was exceedingly tender and flavorful. Even so, in the future I'd probably err on the side of caution and order a med. rare next time. The service was attentive and friendly. All in all, it hit most of the marks for what I'd expect from a good old-fashioned higher-end steak house.

I n my husband went to eat a romantic dinner for our anniversary but We are kind of disappointed as first time diners. Food was ok but its overly priced. The server was very quiet n didn't help us that much. She changed with other kind of reserved lady server without letting us know our mistake. She was watching us wirh weird looks from far, serving other table. We were not comfortable at there at all. Not going there ever again!!!

My biggest complaint about this place is the food. I can deal with snobby waiters and crowded loud dinning rooms, which this place had both, but the food better match the high prices and be high in quality and taste, and it was neither. I ordered the filet mignon, medium, and it was a little more red than pink but not overly bloody so I could deal with that, but it had no flavor, it was so bland.

My husband was debating between steaks and the waiter highly recommended the rib chop, which my husband ordered also medium. It was huge and "looked" delicious, emphasize on the word looked. The steak was so bloody when my husband cut into it that even the waiter noticed and kindly offered to take it back and have it cooked longer. I was hoping he also offered to take back all the food and keep it warm until my husbands steak was cooked, but he didn't. We didn't want our mashed potatoes, asparagus and my steak to get cold so I shared a bit of my steak with my husband and we ate some of the sides. When his steak finally came out I was almost done with mine, mind you I only ate a small portion because it had no flavor. His steak was still bloody, a little less than before, but it was not medium. If I thought my steak lacked flavor my husbands steak was the most tasteless piece of meat I have ever had. I had to add salt and pepper to the piece he gave me and I have never had to do that before, especially at a steak restaurant.

I gave this place an overall three stars because it was nicely decorated for Christmas and that always makes a place feel cozy to me, but mostly I gave it three stars because the young kid helping out the waiter with bread and drinks was very nice and attentive. The mashed potatoes were tasty, but my husband pointed out that they tasted like boxed mashed potatoes with a lot of butter, I grew up eating boxed mashed potatoes and I think he is right, they were boxed potatoes.

Have gone here for years, love the ambiance and food. This visit was highly disappointing. My food came out cold, although was delicious, 2. $30+ steak dinners came out practically raw . Only 1 dinner was acceptable. She ate her's alone and was done before our 3 dinners came. Received a full bill with no discounted items. Had to ask.

The holiday decorations and warm fire created a heavenly ambience. The food was really good. We shared the artichoke appetizer and the rib eye. Sides were extra but delicious. We hadgarlic mashed potatoes and crisp steamed broccoli. The special Sycamore dessert was really good. One is plenty for two people. Puff pastry, vanilla bean ice cream, caramel sauce, fresh berries and whipped cream. What’s not to like. We will be back!

I found it ridiculous that our party of 10 was set at a long table that began right at the kitchen entrance and ended with a pillar in the middle of the seating. I could understand if the restaurant was crowded, but it was 3/4 EMPTY! There was plenty of other areas in the restaurant where we could have been comfortably seated without impacting any other guests.

Lesson learned: don’t bring large parties to this establishment; they don’t know how to accommodate them.

We’re never disappointed with the menu, the servers and the amazing history behind this famous eatery. They use only the best ingredients and it shows. Go and enjoy, but do save room for the soufflé!

Even though my brother lives only 5 miles away, this was out first time at the Sycamore Inn. The venue is great, we loved the old style leather chairs and elegant atmosphere. The food was excellent, I had rack of lamb and since we had just arrived from Australia the week before I was pleased that it was every bit as good as the lamb we had in Australia. My partner had the braised lamb shank which was also first rate and my brother the scallops and shrimp which he definitely enjoyed.
The service was a little hap hazard. They forgot my brother's starter and then forgot my partner's dessert so in both instances two of us sat with our food waiting a significant time for the third person to get their dish. The waitress was very nice and helpful when we managed to spill a glass of wine, but it seemed to be taking along time to get food out of the kitchen. In fact it took 3 requests to get the cheese plate my partner ordered for dessert and we joked that my brother could have ordered the souffle he wanted in the time it took to get the cheese plate.
I would go again, but since their prices are expensive, I would expect the service to be more efficient.

This was our first time dining here. It was Thanksgiving. I appreciated the diverse menu, no wait time and the service was great. We all enjoyed our meal and the thoughtfulness of the staff. We all decided that this was, indeed, worth another visit soon.

We went for Thanksgiving dinner. $40 a plate for marginal food. A few of us had the traditional turkey dinner. It had no flavor. The sales were warm, and the minestrone soup smelled awful! The remaining people in our party chose filet migmon. It was fatty and the sauce on top ruined it completely. $400 for a party of 7. Definitely not worth it! First time there and the last!

Great ambiance. The food is superb. You get what you pay for. Don't balk at the menu prices, it's worth every penny. Granted, it's not a place where you go often, but when you do go, it's a treat. Wait staff is friendly. I tried the lamb chops for the first time, I wasn't disappointed, I was very impressed.

The food and presentation was not especially pleasing for the price point. The menu selection was very ordinary, too hum drum for a 4-star restaurant.

There should be a wheelchair entrance added since the client is mostly seniors.

Was looking for a great, classic, upscale steak house and this fit the bill. The ambiance was perfect with its wood paneling, red leather seating, and dim mood lighting. The menu is superb with a well-appointed wine list and classic steakhouse specialties including filet mignon, prime rib, lobster, and lamb. The usual suspects were available for starters and accompaniments (shrimp cocktail, jumbo artichoke, steakhouse salad, creamed spinach, roasted asparagus, a few different variations of mashed potatoes, etc) and desserts were classic as well and included caramel bread pudding and chocolate souffle. I've already used the word "classic" more than once in this review, but that is exactly what this place is - a classic, upscale dining experience for when you want to get dressed up and have superb food served by a well-trained and professional wait staff as you're sitting in an elegant dining room. Prices are what can be expected in a fine dining establishment...don't bother making a reservation if you're pinching pennies. It's a wonderful indulgence. *NOTE: They host private events on weekend afternoons when the restaurant is closed to the general public and we were very disappointed to find the restrooms in really poor shape due to them not being cleaned between an event and the regular dining room hours. But I believe this to have been a one-time oversight and not the norm, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and hoping I never see that again.

Not what it used to be. I hadn't been to the Sycamore Inn for several years, when our party of 4 decided to have a birthday dinner here. The restaurant is in need of a makeover. While the decor may have a throwback quality, it seems boring and outdated. The one plus was the service. It was excellent and very timely. However, the food and drink prices have become bloated. We all had prime rib. While it was fine, it was nothing special. The caesar salad was nothing special. The broiled asparagus with a red pepper aioli topping was a good idea that didn't work. The one thing that did work was the smoked bacon-blue cheese mashed potatoes. It was very good. While the restaurant has an extensive wine list, the drink prices were outrageous. I realize that the bar is a profit center, but this was usury! $24 for an Oban on the rocks is a complete ripoff (especially with a stingy pour). The next time I decide to spend nearly $500 on dinner, there are several much better places I can visit.
