Food was delicious all around. We had a variety of items and all were cooked perfectly; meatballs and potato sausage were particular standouts for us. Lingonberry lemonade was a favorite with half of us and the other half preferred lingonberry iced tea; they were amazing about letting us switch which we had on refills so that we could try them both. Wanted to try dessert but we were too full!
The Swedish Crown has a casual dining area in the front, and a more formal dining area and bar in the back. We sat in the back, and enjoyed a delicious smoked salmon appetizer and a traditional Swedish meal of sausage, meatballs, mashed potatoes and lingonberries. Delicious! We were thrilled! Service was excellent, too!
A group of four friends. We had four different menus and enjoyed each. The restaurant is clean; service was available within reason; the ambience at lunch time was to be expected. We were all satisfied with the experience and would hope to be able to dine there again - maybe an evening dinner next time.
I want to like the Vasa. It's located where I live. The chef knows how to marry flavors and that is good. There are other problems though. We were there on Prime Rib Night at 6pm. They had only two pieces left. We were a party of four WITH reservations. One member ordered strip steak since she could not get prime rib. It was flavorful but boot leather tough. Sampled by all to prove it. I would have returned it myself. The prime rib was the most thinly sliced I have ever seen EVER. The alcoholic beverages are call liquor only. One cannot just order a scotch and water. THEN the portions are so small that we looked at each other in disbelief. I am sorry, 1/3 glass of wine is ridiculous! Cut costs somewhere else. Like I said, I want to like the Vasa. I have given them numerous tries. May not go back.
We were looking forward to dining at the Swedish Crown. We ate there for a Monday lunch. We were disappointed in the quality of the food. We ordered the swedish meatballs and potato sausage and the shrimp spinach salad. The potato sausage was scant. The spinach salad was meager and overpriced at $12.99. There wasn't enough shrimp and goat cheese, very little and a few almonds. Swedish menu items at lunch seemed to be limited.
The restaurant was cold and the salad bar had not been refreshed, so little to offer here. The ostkaka was delicious. Overall, we were disappointed and won't be able to recommend this place for dining.
We sat in the main dining room, very casual and family friendly. Food was generally good and service ok - they seemed a bit hared even though there were only a handful of us in the whole place. Save your money and skip the mixed drinks as there's hardly a drop of alcohol. The lingonberry lemonade is very tasty. If it's an adults night or you want a less casual experience ask to be seated in the Vasa section. I wish we had known as it's much nicer - table clothes, linen napkins, fireplace, dimmer lighting.
Expectations were much greater than even a quasi experience.....the entrée selection was middle of the road with no real emphases on any theme....just stuff one can obtain anywhere.
Quality for the cost was very sub-standard and no, I.....we, will not be coming back.
Our Waitress had been drinking! Even though she was quite comical and very lighthearted, she kept forgetting our orders and it took forever to get our food. Our family was excited to visit Linsburgh Kansas and get to see the Swedish fare, the fact that they had a Swedish based menu and a variety of other items was a plus. We were told that our chef was originally from this area but had studied in California. The menu did have things like Swedish meatballs, potato sausage, and many lingonberry extras, like...lingonberry BBQ, lingonberry vinegarette, and I had a lingonberry margarita to start my evening...I'm hoping that the longtime waitress, friend and classmate of the owner/chef will be celbrating after her shift, in the future. Food rated good/great, depending on the dish.
We always love going to the "Crown". It's fun to try their special dish of the day...usually something interesting. I had the warm spinach salad this time. It had wonderful flavor although a bit too much dressing for my liking...still very good. My husband had his favorite Patty Melt which is always consistently good!
I made my reservations online and received a confirmation number and even a reminder the day of my reservation, but when we arrived, there was no reservation made in my name. Since there was a reunion going on that evening, I'm just thankful that we could get a table.
We ordered the Swedish dinner with meat balls, dill potato and potato sausage, with lingonberries. Rather different, pretty tasty. Dinner ran from $10 - $20 for most entrees and they had a reasonable selection of American food as well. We happened to show up on their Ladies Night Out evening so the cackle level from the bar was a bit high...but service was great and food delivered fast to the table.
This visit was not up to previous experiences. Waitress failed to offer coffee refill (asked her for a fresh cup after realizing the first cup was stale, that took awhile); did not offer a takeout box until late in visit, even after bringing check; seemed preoccupied. The chicken fried steak portions much smaller than previous visits and gravy almost non-existent. The pasta dish very bland. We were disappointed, as the Vasa Club has been a favorite in the past.
Having had an amazing! lunch last late spring when we visited Bethany we were VERY disappointed in Dinner. We were pointed to the back room by a couple other customers out front and we would have WAY rather sat in empty front rather than that back ordinary room over filled with people We had a reservation that noone could find so we were placed at a smaller table with our backs to a side entry way for the servers.
Just don't get the fish and chips for dinner..get them for lunch..more accurately priced then and these were an odd shaped cut almost like scallops or shrimp at dinner and way too small to be batter fried type. A Pasta special wasn't special either.
Kid Burgers are excellent though-we all should have gotten the burgers I guess?
I ate lunch there and thought the food was very good, and plentiful. I just wish your lunch menu had more Swedish dishes, like herrings, Swedish potato sausage, and such. I thought the food was very fresh, quality was excellent. Service was great. thank you!
The Swedish Crown is truly a jewel small town central Kansas. It is always a flavor adventure of incredible foods. Worth a drive to experience. I can't make it through the entire menu because of the fantastic specials they keep offering. And their special 4 course meals like New Year's eve are totally outstanding and worth the price.
The revamped Swedish Crown Restaurant in Lindsborg offers something out of the ordinary for diners. Chef Shana 's specials are always delicious and attractively presented. On our most recent visit, the evening special was prosciuto-wrapped salmon served over a warm spinach salad - a yummy and unique blend of flavors and textures. Dinners are also accompanied by a basket of Swedish rye and poppyseed bread. We are never disappointed.
