The Gallery Restaurant at The Swan at Lavenham Ratings and Reviews
Nice restaurant in fantastic old building. Some of the dishes were a bit off - the brown crab gel was very salty, for example. We got the feeling the chef was trying a little too hard. The wine pairings were good. Some of the service seemed as if they were in training and so a little slow and unsure. I would give the restaurant another chance if in the area.
The food was very tasty. Lots of care and attention went into it. The staff are wonderful and cared to our every need. The wine recommendations were really great. We ate here for Sunday lunch and we were surprised at how much older the rest of the customers were. Average age was significantly higher than us (we're in our early/mid 30's), so the vibe/atmosphere was not quite our thing, but that was OK as the food was good.
Apart from the 'diversions' nr Hadleigh which made us late despite leaving early ... The whole experience of lunch at the Swan Lavenham was wonderful. The staff were very professional and didn't make too much fuss about being a late and we still managed to get a drink first ! The village is adorable and the atmosphere at the Swan is looking lovely especially the Pianist who played beautifully. Thank you
I took my partner here for a Valentines Day lunch and everything was perfect from start to finish. The location, the building, the staff, the food - absolutely faultless. A very classy place but with no stuffiness, or the kind of attitude that sometimes comes across in upmarket places. Very, very impressed.
Come here a fair bit and it never disappoints. This time it was Sunday lunch. The food was based around a choice of roasts which always works for me. A good wine selection by the glass, essential if you're driving and rounded off with a nice pudding. Do book it is popular especially at weekends.
Our favourite restaurant. Hard to find a fine dining restaurant nowadays like The Swan. The food is fantastic, the service is supreme. Sunday lunch is outstanding value, and at other times dependent on your mood you can have fine dining in The Gallery, or a more casual meal in the Brasserie.
Had a small reunion with 5 of us wanting a long lunch on a Saturday. It was pretty empty on the Saturday lunchtime but we had booked all the same. The food was wonderful. We all managed the three course lunch. Everything was wonderfully prepared and presented.
This was food fit for foodies and, for the quality, very reasonable. Most of us had the pigeon which was rich and delicious. The mash it was on and the gravy were divine. The Rhubarb "cheesecake" was interesting. Served as quenelles of creamy (but cheesecake tasting) mixture. It was delightful.
We all agreed that the food was lovely and we were not left feeling stuffed but had eaten plenty.
The re-union was greatly enhanced by the wonderful service afforded us by all the staff. Particularly, Vilma was delightful. She was so polite but very friendly and attentive to our small party. The surroundings were suitably impressive of a place in Lavenham which added to the experience. Also, it is lovely to have crisp white tablecloths and napkins as it raises the ambiance and class of the establishment (so many don't bother at lunchtimes!)
We were left to enjoy everything and never rushed at all. After more than three hours we left having had a most enjoyable meal and overall dining experience. At just about £30 a head you really cannot ask for anyting more.
Recently went to the Swan at Lavenham for my birthday Sunday Lunch.
The service, meal and ambience was fantastic, the meal in itself was the best I have ever had.
At time of booking I mentioned in the notes it was a birthday and after the meal the pianist played happy birthday and the waitress brought out a little tray with Happy Birthday spelt out in chocolate with a couple of luxury chocolates, wonderful touch.
Would definitely recommend and would return in a heartbeat.
We arrived one hour late (my mistake!) but the staff were extremely polite and after checking with the chef they allowed us to continue. Six of us staying in a local cottage and we all agreed that his was a lovely Sunday lunch. The service was great including a very knowledgeable sommelier. Great value for money and the food was great and I will certainly go back there again if I am staying in the area. In fact the hotel looked so nice we will certainly be planning a weekend away in Lavenham and this Sunday Lunch will be on the tip of my list of things to do.
Based on previous experience, Sunday's lunch was disappointing. The plates had not been heated and the food was only just warm. We were not able to sit in the lounge and have a pre-lunch drink in the normal way. The service was middling but not smooth the way it used to be. My overall impression was that the management were cutting back. Since no progress on the spa was evident since our last visit a year ago, could it be that there are money problems? In a word, The Swan had lost its sparkle. We will give it another try in June to celebrate my wife's birthday and hope that things have improved. But a welcome note of congratulations - the car parking was excellent.
We have been going to the Swan for Sunday Lunch once a year for the past twenty years. Each year we come away saying how much we enjoyed the experience. This year was no exception. The food was very good as was the service. Even though it was Fathers Day there was no sense of pressure in the restaurant, though nearly every table was in use. The menu was easy to navigate. We chose a French country wine which was excellent.
Ate in the Brasserie for Sunday dinner, which is the more informal setting at this lovely old inn. The menu offers a good choice of dishes, although the range of wines by the glass is not as great as I'd like. Service was efficient and pleasant. Sue's fish and chips were truly outstanding, as good as she's had anywhere, even Southwold pier. My trout was also done to perfection with really tasty samphire and new potatoes. Desserts were a disappointment as we both went for the pannacotta which turned out to be rather overcooked and rubbery - not unpleasant just not as smooth and creamy as it should be. Overall a good experience and reasonable value for money - I'd certainly eat there again.
We booked lunch at the Swan Hotel as we have eaten here before and was very impressed by the service, food and the Gallery resturant environment.
We decided to select food from the lunch menu as it catered for all our tastes including my daughter who is a vegitarian. The service was excellent from the moment we were shown to our table until we left. The food was very nicely and creatively presented and beautifully cooked.
I am sure when the opportunity arises we will dine there again.
We have had special events, stayed at and frequently eat in the restaurant at the Swan. Other favourite haunts have dropped quality to widen profit margins or have just lost the edge and we moan when they do, so thought it would be very unBritish to applaud when food and service remains of the highest standard!
A special day for the two of us - our 55th Wedding Anniversary - It couldn't have gone better. Welcoming, attentive and efficient staff. All very polite and friendly too. The food was excellent - Well presented and cooked to perfection. Try the slow braised Lamb Shank !!! We didn't use the wine list as I was driving but this seemed very good. Desserts were delicious (a very important part of our meal) and creatively presented. Thoroughly recommended and we will definitely return.
Our very first experience of the Swan was last Summer, our Son gave us afternoon tea, which was absolutely first Class, it was at that afternoon we decided to come back, when we didn't know, just after Christmas we were wondering what we should do for our 51st wedding anniversary this year, and we decided that we would like to spend it at the Swan, so we did and we are both very pleased that we did, only staying the one night The 9th of March, everything about the Swan is amazing, the surroundings, the room No16 Wiles, was more than we expected, cleanliness outstanding all of the Staff especially on Reception were Wonderful a really comfortable Lounge, and the service Bar reminded me of my service days, food top rate. thank you.
Thank you for a wonderful lunch. As soon as we entered we felt pampered and the whole ambience was super. The food was excellent as was the recommended wine. It was good to be able to have Adnam's beer available too.The staff were very attentive and the whole experience was superb. Thank you again and we will look forward to returning.
