Great Sunday afternoon lunch. She Crab soup best in Charleston and the Shrimp and Grits best we ever had! And we’ve had a lot! Crab cake sliders were good, not great. And don’t forget the pecan pie, delicious! Prices very reasonable and portions very filling. Would definitely go back and recommend highly to others.
I misunderstood the breakfast buffet and thought it was brunch. Luckily we arrived early, and had 30 min to get breakfast before they switched over to lunch! Good, hearty breakfast foods!
There was nothing wrong with our meal at Swamp Fox but there was nothing spectacular either. The shrimp and grits were very good. Our other items - fried shrimp, seafood stew, and pork chop were good. Unfortunately with all the other dining options in Charleston we’ll choose another next time.
Usually stay away from Hotel restaurants, but the Swamp Fox was worth it!
We had a great meal and the atmosphere was very nice. The piano made the meal that much better.
Great for special occasions
Outstanding! The service was excellent, the ambiance was quiet and comfortable, and the food was delicious. Highly recommended.
I didn’t care for the table near the bar, since I had a reservation. They canceled my open table reservation, while I was dining there for lunch. The food was good and the prices reasonable! Service was very good aside from the bad table and canceled reservation!
We chose the Swamp Fox because of its location (near the Gaillard Center, where we were attending a Sunday evening show) and positive reviews from our neighbors. We were not disappointed - very good food and service. Shrimp and grits appetizer portion (called "petite" - but very generous) gave me a chance to sample their renowned recipe (excellent) without filling up. A bibb salad with sautéed scallops was a finish to the meal.
Tasty pre-concert meal. Attentive and knowledgeable waitress. We'll go back.
Very disappointing. We were there for Restaurant Week on a Saturday night. They were out of one of their entrée choices and one of their dessert choices. No option was offered from their regular menu to substitute for the entrée or dessert. We ordered the pork tenderloin and received a pork chop. Service was okay, but not outstanding.
Happened to be at the Francis Marion for a conference - it was restaurant week so thought we would partake in the 3/30 - figured it would be top shelf since they were showcasing it during restaurant week. The salmon appetizer was literally smoked salmon formed around a mound of cream cheese - i could make this at home - nothing special at all - i had the swordfish which came on a mound of COLD rice or something - the waiter said it should be room temp but it was ice cold like out of the fridge. My friend had the meatloaf which was not special at all. Really disappointing. Desserts were ok. I have a feeling this was a misstep and perhaps not the typical meal at this hotel but wow - it was really really bad!
The greeter and server were lovely and accommodated our little family nicely. They offered easy conversation, recommendations, and pleasant smiles. The place was very quiet on New Year's Day. A few oddities due to the holiday....no straws, no bags for take out boxes...you get the idea. We will probably not return.
Over priced and just ok food, including some pretty subpar mac and cheese (really?). In a city like Charleston, where delicious food abounds, they need to up their game! We won't go back.
Great experience! Had lunch and dinner. Both experiences were excellent.
Great food. Enjoyable. Waitstaff were pleasant and very attentive.
We had dinner, breakfast and the Christmas buffet at the Swamp Fox. We are from south Louisiana so we are familiar with good food. The Swamp Fox is exceptional, and a great presentation of Low Country cuisine. The best shrimp and grits in Charleston.
My husband and I had our annual Christmas Buffet , and again it was sensational. We would like to give a big Thank You to Rickie Simmons and his GREAT staff. Food was delectable. Christmas tunes played by piano add warm to cozy spot. I hope everyone get a chance to experience such a great restaurant, especially at the holidays. Also, the shrimp and grits were "out of this world". See you again shortly.
The Swamp Fox has some of the best Low Country cuisine located in the heart of Downtown. Their she crab soup, shrimp and grits, and fried green tomatoes are the best in Charleston. They locally source most of their ingredients. The seasonal fried oysters appetizer was excellent.
Wonderful cozy little restaurant in the Francis Marion Hotel with great food and beautiful view of Marion Square.
Baked brie was amazing
I had the fried chicken, collards, and potatoes for dinner. The food and service were great! We always stay at the Frances Marion Hotel and enjoy dining at the restaurant. Their breakfast and lunch are also very good!
This was the only place that had a table available before we went to see the Charleston Symphony and it turned out to be a very good choice. The food was good, the service was great and we just had a wonderful time. We will go back
Our second time at the Swamp Fox restaurant and the food again was very good with one small exception. Several of our group of 6 people felt that the vegetables were over salted. We had different vegetables on the table such as roasted Brussels sprouts, asparagus and okra and each person said the same thing about the saltiness. But..overall the food and the service was as good as our last visit and we will return. Thank you for an enjoyable pre-theatre dinner.
The food, service, and views were delightful. We would have liked to see a chocolate desert on the menu.
We met friends for a late lunch as they were shopping downtown. Even though it was quite late (2:30) and we were the only table seated, we received great service and the food was wonderful - especially the shrimp n' grits! Very relaxing atmosphere.
My server came to ask about our meal when we were almost done. I let him know my food was not hot but that it was too late at this point. The hostess came over shortly after and I relayed the same information. She offered us a glass of wine that never showed up. Also the Brie appetizer was to have pecans. It did not.
It was thanksgiving so they had a very nice buffet. Most of it was really good, but of course temperature control with buffet serving is challenging so none of the hot food was hot enough for me, but it was really good!
Holiday buffets at the Swamp Fox have become one of out traditions. The food is always interesting, abundant, and well-prepared. As well, the price is right and the serving staff professional and accommodating. One can't go wrong dining at the Swamp Fox for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. It's great!
Shrimp and Grits were great, portions are hearty and the food was delivered quickly
Our party of six had a very nice dinner and the service was excellent. Two of us had the mushroom ravioli and we loved it. Very nice sized portion. The baked brie was delicious. No complaints at all.
This is a very nice, classic-type place for a good, leisurely dinner. The food was expertly prepared, beautiful and tasty. The staff are very professional and don't rush you, trying to turn tables. The dining room is quiet and relaxing. A great evening out.
I highly recommend the Swamp Fox. The food was amazing and my friends and I really enjoyed the evening. Our server was kind, considerate, and professional. Thank you.
We like the food and service at this restaurant. The shrimp and grits was very good. They provide nice live piano music.
Great restaurant!!! Very friendly staff, would highly recommend!!!
The food was delicious and my server was so friendly! Great place.
This place was a dud. Bad service, bad food. Just bad.
The food was amazing! We loved our first experience here and will definitely be back!
My wife and I enyoy staying at the historic and charming Francis Marion Hotel whenever we overnight in Charleston for one of the city's many entertainment events. We have never been disappointed dining at the hotel's convenient, comfortable and well-staffed Swamp Fox restaurant: always well-prepared and well-served food and beverage with a relaxing, casual ambience. Our experience over the years has been that most fulll-menu hotel restaurants are, like the Swamp Fox, too often overlooked and underated by both tourists and locals.
Shrimp and Grits was exceptional, Crab Stack was so so. Server seemed in a hurry to clear the table.
