The Swamp Fox at the Francis Marion Hotel Ratings and Reviews
My server came to ask about our meal when we were almost done. I let him know my food was not hot but that it was too late at this point. The hostess came over shortly after and I relayed the same information. She offered us a glass of wine that never showed up. Also the Brie appetizer was to have pecans. It did not.
Holiday buffets at the Swamp Fox have become one of out traditions. The food is always interesting, abundant, and well-prepared. As well, the price is right and the serving staff professional and accommodating. One can't go wrong dining at the Swamp Fox for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. It's great!
This is a very nice, classic-type place for a good, leisurely dinner. The food was expertly prepared, beautiful and tasty. The staff are very professional and don't rush you, trying to turn tables. The dining room is quiet and relaxing. A great evening out.
My wife and I enyoy staying at the historic and charming Francis Marion Hotel whenever we overnight in Charleston for one of the city's many entertainment events. We have never been disappointed dining at the hotel's convenient, comfortable and well-staffed Swamp Fox restaurant: always well-prepared and well-served food and beverage with a relaxing, casual ambience. Our experience over the years has been that most fulll-menu hotel restaurants are, like the Swamp Fox, too often overlooked and underated by both tourists and locals.
We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. Both were outstanding meals with very good service. The food was delicious, reasonable price point AND we had background music of very talented pianists for both meals. Delightful experiences! Well worth the walk from our hotel across the other side of the park.
We made reservations for Charleston week at 2:30pm, we were given the regular menu, Owner stated Charleston week doesn't start till dinnertime...Why were we able to make reservations at that time if it was not available. Being that I was sooo hungry we dined elsewhere and was pleasantly pleased!!!
The food was good, but it wasn't great. The service was pleasant but not exceptional. I'd say if you stay at the hotel and you don't have plans one night it's a solid backup plan. I'm sure if this were a stand alone restaurant in downtown Charleston it would either be forced to improve or would close down.
We had our three year anniversary dinner date at The Swamp Fox. We were expecting something a little nicer but it was smart casual. Our service was good and the food was good as well. Overall we had a good experience and I would recommend but maybe not for a nice occasion.
Don't let the fact it's in a hotel prejudice you. Good food, reasonable prices. Even decent wine under $30. You won't see trendy foodies here. You will find a normal menu instead of a bunch of small plates and weird sides where you need a guide to figure our what combination of things to cobble together to come up with something resembling a meal. Plus you can get a table because tourists think hotel restaurants are mediocre and expensive and mob the trendy places. They are wrong on both counts.
We took our granddaughter for a belated birthday dinner celebration. The food was good and our young granddaughter was impressed by the attentive waitress and the piano player! We love this place even though it's not "cutting edge cuisine". It is always tasty. Reliable, pleasant and welcoming.
