Great pianist- nice atmosphere and experience
Thank you for such a detailed review. Glad you enjoyed our carrot soup which happens to be a new item on our FALL menu. You can come back and listen to our piano man on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Perfect end to a busy day…we were slightly concerned we’d be underdressed for the Swamp Fox, yet we blended in nicely and we’re made to feel at home by Dominic.
The fare was amazing and the soft background music from the piano was the piece de resistance.
Andrew was a wonderful server.
Thank You for the kind words. It was our pleasure to serve you and hope to see you again soon.
Great food and service!
Thank you Jennifer! Hope to see you again soon.
Great food, friendly professional staff and reasonable prices.
Thank You Naples99! we do our best to be as consistent as possible. Please come pay us another visit the next time you are in town.
Waiter did not listen well. First night we couldn’t get seated. I also left a bag of masks I bought and no one found bag on table or if they did they can notify me at Francis Marion till Friday Valerie
Our sincere apologies Valerie. We hope you found your masks and would love for you to give us another try the next time you are in town.
Food was good but maybe overpriced.
Glad you enjoyed our food as we have a very talented kitchen staff. We do our best to keep our prices competitive and I think you will find our prices are extremely fair compared to some of our other downtown neighbors. Hope you will come back and see us again some time.
Nice servers and well prepared food.
Amazing she crab soup. ! Love the sherry addition!!
Thank you Linda! Our she-crab soup is definitely a crowd favorite and we are so glad you got to enjoy some. If you have not tried our shrimp and grits, that too is AMAZING!!
Went here for our five-year anniversary and it wasn’t bad. Wasn’t great, either. It was just kinda “meh.”
The Swamp Fox, located in the historic Francis Marion hotel, is a centrally located gem overlooking Marion Square and convenient to the shopping and dining district along upper King Street.
The service was on-point from Christina, who took great care of my guest and I during our lunch meeting. Thank you! The chef did a wonderful job in preparing our She-crab soup and salad, which were the perfect portions for our meal. Excellent job all the way around from the team at the Swamp Fox.
Very good food and lovely service.
Sadly we didn’t even get to eat.
10 minutes to be greeted and seated by hostess.
10 minutes with no server.
We left and no one even noticed.
The food was fantastic the shrimp and grits outstanding
Crab cake dinner was also outstanding
We will go back
The food was great and our waiter was very attentive. My mom and I ordered the vegetable cavatelli and my dad had the salmon and we all loved our meals. The only thing that wasn’t great was the raspberry creme brûlée - way too much raspberry purée and not enough creme brûlée.
Excellent service and delicious southern favorites. I ordered the petite shrimp and grits from the appetizer menu (which was delectable), but the full portion would have been enough to split! The sound level was perfect for enjoying conversation around the table.
Seems like they could use more help. Steak was very tender and a large size. Fried chicken is white meat only. One of the few places you could get into.
The food was great and our server was attentive. We were expecting a more elegant atmosphere but found it to be more of a diner feel. If you’re looking for good food at a semi reasonable price then this is a good place to dine.
Apps were way better than the entrees. What they called filet Mignon was tough and over cooked.
Service was terrible. Food was good. Atmosphere lacking. No toilet paper 🙄
Food and service was very good. What I expected for its location. Disappointed I did not know about concealed carry weapons being disallowed. Would not have made reservations if I had known
Over all the food was good, especially the She Crab soup, which was phenomenal, delicate yet packed with plenty of tender lump crab! The fried chicken , mashed potatoes and pan seared salmon that one of our group ordered, were all quite good. The sides , however did not live up to the mains. The collards, while braised with bacon, had an unusually sweet flavor not at all reminiscent of good Southern collards like my wife’s mama used to make. The overload of garlic in the creamed corn hid the delicate sweetness one expects in this dish and you could stand a fork up in the cream “sauce “. And the grilled asparagus lacked flavor, at the very least it needed some olive oil, salt and pepper. Then the dessert - both couples in our party ordered a carrot cake to split. The cake was oddly dense, reminding us all of a fruit cake, there were no evidence of the carrots nor any of the other expected ingredients hidden by its density. The frosting, while there may have been some sour cream in its DNA, was as flat and thick as a layer of fondant, and nearly tasteless. It’s unfortunate that a restaurant with such a high rating doesn’t spend as much culinary time and thought on its sides and desserts as it does on its mains. Go for the She Crab Soup and fried chicken, good luck with the rest!
Food for restaurant week was amazing!!
Best bread & butter I’ve had. Warm and soft, fresh out of the oven and the butter room temperature. Strawberry shortcake was fantastic
Overall a decent experience. Food good, not spectacular, service good, a little intrusive.
The food was very good and it was a very pleasant dinner
We had a reservation for 7 and we were not seated till 7:40. Our server was wonderful and sweet! But they werMy husbands steak
Good entree but the desserts need a lot of help strawberry shortcake was sad and pathetic
Comfortable and friendly environment - nice break from the King Street rush. Food was excellent - service was crisp and attentive. Overall very enjoyable.
It was a very long wait but other than that it was a cute environment.
We appreciate your patience and hope to see you again soon.
We made a reservation for dinner at 9:45pm, when we arrived the waiter told us the kitchen was closing and he could not guarantee our meals would be served. Why let a person make a dinner reservation for 9:45, if the kitchen closes. It was a waste of time, thank goodness for Indaco being able to accommodate a party of six for a last minute dinner.
Food was wonder, only 1 negative.
My husband had the Carolina Gold Rice and it was horrible. It was ver mushy and had no flavor. Besides
That all the food was fantastic. Our server Danner was top notch! Wonder ambient live piano music was great.
The food was excellent but we felt very rushed with the service.
A restaurant in an up-scale hotel is expected to be of that level. The ambiance of Swamp Fox was not. The service was good and pleasant but the food was not satisfactory. The main course of pork chop and beans was absolutely inedible. I have never had a pork chop that was as tough to chew as this one. Even with a meat-knife I had a very difficult time sawing through the over-cooked meat with sections that couldn’t be swallowed. The beans were so over cooked that they fell apart when picked up with a fork.
The management did make some amends by reducing the cost of my meal.
My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and I had fish and grits. We both thought the grits were too watery and had way too much pepper. My fish had a rubbery texture and was hard to cut with my fork. It was translucent and raw in the center. Great service from our waiter but we were disappointed in the food and won’t be back.
It was ok at the most. Reviews were great but food was just plain. The bread was undercooked, the shrimp & grits was plain/ tasteless. It was a unmemorable experience. There was a piano and music was beautiful but we were sat at the table farthest from the piano and it was so loud at the restaurant we could not hear anything.
Food was okay nothing special
Nice place, above average food. Live piano made it a bit loud but it was enjoyable. Great service. Fried chicken was good but a tad dry. Shrimp and grits were very good. Southern sampler was our favorite. Ambiance leaned a little basic hotel restaurant. Interior could stand to be renovated or refreshed to be brought up to the quality of the menu and service.
The entrees were very good. My Halibut was ordered Medium but came Well done. My partners entree was perfect. Otherwise the taste and seasoning was excellent The service was acceptable. The waiter did not refill drinks/ask if we wanted to order another. Not a big deal but unusual for a higher end restaurant. The small room was extremely loud due to a party of 7 seated nearby. Again, not something that can be controlled. The Swamp Fox would not be my first choice in Charleston based on this experience.
Subpar for Charleston SC. I am local and had never eaten there before. I will not visit again given the other superb options available in the area.
