Nothing to fault in this amazing restaurant. Highly recommended!
Our second visit to this great restaurant. What a find! Lovely food and staff were lovely too. When this madness is over we will be back. We hope they will be able to continue serving their delicious food and don’t get moved into another tier. X
Very large quantities, but less would be fine and focus on each element more! Great to see the restaurant open, really good service but tasting menu didn't quite hit the mark expected by the menu
Fantastic service and great food. Would definitely go again
Decided to treat ourselves to an early Christmas present and book the Sundial for the Châteaubriand Menu. 'Quelle horreur!! it was fully booked for each of the evenings. So booked for the Friday lunchtime.
Started with the Christmas Champagne Cocktail and it was fabulous, hint of orange and a deeper alcohol hidden within.
The Langoustine Consommé instantly reminded me of the South of France with it's wonderful flavour. King scallops are one of my favourites and these did not disappoint, in fact paired with mushroom it was one of the very best. Mary's suggestion of a wine was just right and we really enjoyed it. And the Châteaubriand (just like beef wellington) was excellent. I was full but when the dessert arrived (Pear & Hazelnut Crumble, Chocolate Sauce, and Tahiti Vanilla Ice Cream ) it would have taken a herd of buffalo to stop me eating it all.
Simply fantastic, no wonder the restaurant was fully booked.
A lovely long lunch, in a lovely unhurried restaurant.
Great fun, great service.
We went there for a birthday romantic meal for 2. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food delicious
Great food good service worth the trip from Brighton will defo be back
This is my favourite restaurant-cannot fault anything. Always looking for another excuse to book! Would highly recommend.
Wonderful evening, wonderful food, thank you very much.
Fantastic food and service as always
A very good meal in pleasant surroundings and served with attentive service. I thoroughly recommend the Sundial. In fact we have decided to visit for lunch again later this week.
A perfect place to eat in these depressing times.
We had the most wonderful 70th. Birthday celebration for my husband.
The small family lunch at the Sundial was an absolutely perfect way for us to share this memorable occasion.
A brilliant meal. We booked earlier the same day and was sent the menu and asked to let them have our choices, because of Covid measures. That worked really well and heightened the anticipation. The service was attentive but not oppressive and it was all so relaxed in very pleasant surroundings.
The attention to detail in cooking and presenting the food was impressive and it all tasted superb.
I can not recommend it highly enough.
As ever a very enjoyable lunch. Vincent’s food is well presented, thoughtful and very tasty. Mary is charming, efficient and measured looking after the diners extremely well. The restaurants consistency is commendable, particularly in these difficult times.
We went to the Sundial for the first time on partner’s birthday. Wow, wow, wow! Everything was an astonishing cocktail of flavours, from the Amuse Bouche to the Crepes Suzettes. Thank you so very much for making a most wonderful day! We will be back!
This is a delightful restaurant and perfect for special occasions. The little culinary extras are a lovely touch and you leave feeling satisfied.
Had an very enjoyable lunch, fantastic food and service.
Food and service both excellent. Submitting menu choices beforehand meant no long waits for food
If you would like to enjoy a complete dining experience with excellent food, service and atmosphere (not forgetting the choice of wines), then you need to visit The Sundial.
Exceptional food with great wine to compliment. 2nd time back and I shall be returning again soon
We had the Seafood Festival Menu and every course was superbly cooked and nicely presented.
We eat at this restaurant regularly because we always enjoy the food and the service is excellent.
The food was excellent as was the service. Very Covid friendly with tables well separated.
Must rate as one of the best restaurants in East Sussex.
A real credit to owners Mary & Vincent
Lovely evening, food was as usual fantastic, our favourite restaurant, never fails to deliver on quality.
Excellent food fine dinning.
Only complaint would be charged us for three bottles of water which we didn’t ask for, also 10% service charge is strong as already paying top end for food.
Overall very good
Nice to return for a special occasion. Excellent food, great service and made very welcome
From the moment we stepped through the door we knew we were going to have a fantastic evening. Beautiful building with wonderful ambience and intimate feel. Mary was a wonderful and attentive host. It was such a great idea to have been able to order beforehand. The food was outstanding in both flavour and presentation. Will definitely be returning if we go back to the area.
Always happy to come to the sundial. Vincent and Mary are superb. We celebrated our wedding day here so this is a very special place for us
The Sundial at Herstmonceux is a jewel amongst restaurants, providing a venue with a lovely ambience, high quality food, drink, and service. Even in these unprecedented times Mary and Vincent provide a wonderful welcome to their restaurant, and provide their clientele with menus to suit all tastes and pockets both for lunch or dinner. Providing special events through the culunary calendar such as a Glorious 12th (Roast Grouse) menu, a Game menu, and a Lobster menu at the appropriate times of the year. Whether you are a connoisseur of food and drink or you wish to have a venue to celebrate a special occasion, or just a really good meal out, I would highly recommend The Sundial at Herstmonceux.
The best place to eat I can say. The food tastes so good. The environment is warm and welcoming. They deliver excellent service. I wouldn’t compare with any body. Good quality food. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. I would recommend them to all my friends and family to visit and enjoy their delicious meals.
This is a typical french restaurant, with the sense of romantic style combined with delicious gastronomy, superb hospitality, excellent place to hide from the noisy word for a lovely and quite dinner.
Good professional french cooking and personally selected wine list from the domaine by the owners...great
Interesting modern French menu, in a lovely setting, served by friendly attentive staff. Food is a pleasure to experience.
The food was superb though the wine more average. To give an idea the cheese course was brought to us by the chef personally who helped us choose the cheese we wanted. Lovely presentation and delicious food that compared well with similar quality restaurants in France.
Relax midweek lunch. A warm welcome and delicious food. Just right for a winters day.
A delightful evening with excellent cuisine. xxxxxxx
We enjoyed another memorable family lunch here. All food excellent, including vegetarian options. Looking forward to next time.
Looked good on arrival whole concept was there but let down by the food. Had to send back the tempera prawns as they were raw! The turkey roast looked like it had been plated a while ago as there was a film over the gravy.....will never return
Excellent food good service, interesting menu with wide selection of vegetables
Wonderful meal celebrating our wedding anniversary. A perfect evening, we will definitely be returning.
