A delightful evening with excellent cuisine. xxxxxxx
We enjoyed another memorable family lunch here. All food excellent, including vegetarian options. Looking forward to next time.
Looked good on arrival whole concept was there but let down by the food. Had to send back the tempera prawns as they were raw! The turkey roast looked like it had been plated a while ago as there was a film over the gravy.....will never return
Excellent food good service, interesting menu with wide selection of vegetables
Wonderful meal celebrating our wedding anniversary. A perfect evening, we will definitely be returning.
The view was amazing as always. On top of that we had an amazing waitress!! Her name was Rhonda Smith!
We had the pre-Christmas Meal - it was excellent with good choices fro all the courses. Well worth the price.
Great service from the moment you arrive till you leave. Food is delicious and always have about the right amount of time in between courses.
Tucked away in the little village of Herstmonceux is one of the most fantastic restaurants you could possibly find. Run very deftly by a Husband and Wife team who are also the chef and front of house you could not wish for a more charming and attentive place for a fine dining experience. Highly recommended. 11 out of 10.
Exceptional dining experience. There are no other restaurants in the area that compare to The Sundial (not even the Mirabelle at The Grand). Exquisite menus to please everyone’s palate.
This is a proper restaurant, things done properly, you can dine and converse with your guests. We and our guests really enjoyed ourselves, they enjoyed the turbot and steak. I had the red mullet which was really nice and went well with celeriac. But it also came with a baked tiger prawn presumably fish farm reared on fishmeal, which had a strong nose to it, and lots of baked tomatoes which I don't personally think work with fish- made me think of tinned pilchards in tomatoes. When I asked for some grinding pepper to spice the overwhelming tiger prawn and tomato effect, it wasn't well received, I had to give an excuse, but a customer shouldn't have to do that- maybe the tiger prawn and tomatoes weren't needed ? Anyway in general a great family run restaurant, and really enjoyable, thanks.
We always save the Sundial for special occasions, we have never had a less than excellent meal there but our recent visit was outstanding. A truly wonderful evening.
Great venue for an intimate dinner. Lovely French food and good attention to detail. We will be going back.
Very good all around. The food was excellent and would definitely go again!!
Would have been 5 stars all round but for the overly salted food and lack of anything special despite letting them know it was for a special birthday. Excellent menu choices and lovely venue
What a lovely experience at the Sundial, it was a surprise birthday dinner and we’ll all loved the food. Service was outstanding, and all the staff were very polite. We have been here before, but that was over a year ago, and still just has good then. Thank you for a lovely evening, and will be back soon.
A 72nd Birthday treat with a very close friend. For this you want a relaxed atmosphere, excellent food, excellent service, and to feel a little bit spoilt. Mary & Vincent at The Sundial, Herstmonceux fulfilled this 100%.
Mary ensured that the service was of the very highest quality, that you enjoyed the whole experience in very homely surroundings, without being overattended to by waiters and waitresses.
Vincent, a genius of a Chef produced well proportioned, high class food, from a varied menu, that just overwhelmed (my) taste buds. Mine I am a bit of a 'foodie' and delight in having lobster, partridge, venison, and fillet steak to choose from.
Pre-drinks and coffee and canopes can be taken in a relaxing bar and lounge area, which rounds off a very unforgettable evening.
What a wonderful lunch again. This restaurant never fails to deliver on quality and superb service.
I have been here a few times, for special occasions and the service and food has always been excellent. Delicious food, a lot of variety and prompt, friendly service. I recommend this restaurant for a special meal 100%
An excellent meal for Sunday lunch. Beautifully cooked and presented. Service was friendly and efficient. Lovely ambience. Mary could not have been more pleasant. We look forward to returning.
When we arrived, slightly ahead of the schedule time and awaiting the arrival of our fellow diners, we were totally ignored by the staff. No one welcomed us on arrival and the were only 2 other diners, seated at their table. We waited 15 minutes before we could order our preprandial drinks, by which time our fellow diners arrived. The attendance at table was perfectly adequate but the overall standard of the food was disappointing. Throughout the evening there were 3 other tables with maybe 8 covers and this was a Friday evening in early September, which must reflect something.
There are not many fine dining establishments in our area so having the Sundial on our doorstep is a bonus. I found the service excellent and understated. The food was superb served in a restaurant with the perfect ambience. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that wanted to make an evening out special.
Excellent evening as always - great meal and great atmosphere
Visiting the Sundial is always a treat. The welcome is warm and the food is delicious. If you enjoy good food, then you will enjoy the Sundial.
You will not find a better restaurant in the south-east of England. PerM
Everyone was very welcoming and the restaurant was relaxed, with great service.
The menu(s) were a little confusing, but the food itself was fantastic and presented very nicely, with an amuse bouche and gin granita as well as the dishes we ordered.
Overall a great dining experience - we’ll be back!
Fantastic food, very attentive service without being fussy & very relaxing experience
My friends were most impressed, it being their first times at the Sundial. The day was beautiful which helps enormously, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. As per some of your earlier reports, I would also say 'Pricey, but worth it.' I would not make too regular a habit though of eating there!!
Relaxed from beginning to end.Lovely varied menu, nicely cooked and presented, not to forget the wine cellar. Its how it should be.
For our sons 50th birthday.
Why haven’t I been here before? Wonderful staff, terrific food and great wine list all served in a restaurant you could spend the day in, looking over the Sussex countryside.
We will be back.
Having been to this restaurant on 3 or 4 times in the past we were not surprised to see that the excellent standards of food and service that we had experienced in the past were still in operation, even on at 7:00 pm on a Thursday evening.
I'm afraid 2 of our party did not have a good experience food-wise in that they found the food lacked any flavour. More liberal seasoning required. We therefore found the food overpriced. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the service excellent, but the main attraction must always be the food.
Lovely french restaurant serving immaculately presented dishes. Somewhere to go for a special celebration meal. Not cheap, but not overly expensive either. A memorable evening. Would definitely go back if in the area again.
It is always a delight to eat at the Sundial and it never disappoints. The ambience is lovely, the service friendly and professional. The menu choices are amazing and the food and presentation is stunning. Many thanks for another delightful lunch experience
If you are a serious foodie with a generous budget, the sundial is a place not to be missed. It is a family run restaurant which is passionate about delivering high standards. I was being treated by a friend for a special occasion (they will make an extra fuss of someone for an occasion if you tell them on booking, but I didn't want to have the attention). They are a very serious foodie and were seriously impressed. Everything was delicious. Expect to linger, from having drinks in the bar while you peruse the extensive choices, to taking your time over the meal. But this is not an evening to be rushed. Take a serious appetite as the portions are generous for fine cuisine and much of the food is rich - but that is not a critique. Take a serious appetite anyway as it would be a shame to waste the opportunity of enjoying every mouthful
Been there a few times now and never disappointed. Food exceptional and drinks good value too.
Lovely meal as always for our daughters 40th birthday. Thank you all so much, Julia and Danny
Every time I eat here the food and service is memorable. This was the first time with children and they were equally well catered for with a flexible menu and a trip with head chef to the kitchen. I just wish we lived closer and could eat here more often.
