The Sun Dial Restaurant at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Ratings and Reviews
We had an Anniversary celebration and I wanted to order a cake. I called many times to order and could not get through to anybody. When I finally got to the operator she had someone return my call. She asked about the inscription on the cake and I told her "Happy Anniversary". Later I wanted me to add 50th to the inscription. It took many tries to get to someone. The person that answered the phone said Ashton was gone and 50th would be added to the cake.
The waiter started off doing a good job of explaining things and what was on the menu. Then it went down hill from there. He was very slow on taking the order and at the end it took a long time to get our check. We were upset because 50th was not added. The maitre d' came to the table and said they had no record of me calling and it was a miscommunication.
When the waiter served the cake 3 people in our group declined and the slices were returned to the kitchen. I asked to have the remaining cake boxed and when we received the cake the three slices that were returned to the kitchen were not in the box.
I thought this would be a great way to celebrate our anniversary with 11 family members and to show off the downtown jewel of Atlanta. However, it was a very disappointing experience.
Went here for dinner for "date night" as well as belated Valentine's day. We came earlier than our scheduled reservation because we were previously told that if we came early that the estimated wait time would be around 30 minutes. Upon arrival we were told that they were booked up and we would probably be seated close to our original reservation time. We had the option to go to the bar/lounge area. Nice views from every angle but unfortunately it was still not spinning around. We had some drinks and snacks at the lounge. Overall the snack food was ok but pricey. The drinks were good but also a little pricey. We finally got seated and I would say the restaurant was the same as the lounge... the views were about the same but closer to the outside windows, also it was quieter compared to the lounge area but the lounge area wasn't that loud. The food and drinks at the restaurant were good but again pricey in my opinion. Customer service was great though a little slow at the bar/lounge which was understandable since they were so busy. I would come again for maybe a date night/special occasion but due to the cost I couldn't recommend for a casual outing or families. For a casual date or family experience you could just go to the lounge level/observation level for drinks and snacks.
View, of course, can not be beat in Atlanta, service was very good, we enjoyed 2 different salads, wine and the fried apple pie for desert.
The braised ribs were amazing, but the NY Strip was less that desirable for a $55 steak.....it isn't a good sign when it is tough to cut with a steak knife. We chuckled when we saw the table behind us ask for A1 steak sauce.
The valet parking and both garages were full, and we parked next door in a lot, but they would not validate parking .....surprising.
The atmosphere was nice and the overall experience enjoyable.....just don't order the steak!
The restaurant no longer rotates because of a child’s accident. This should be listed on the website. Locals know about the accident, but if you are from out of town you deserve to know as well. The food was great, the service was amazing, the drinks were excellent, and the view was breathtaking.
Parking was horrible. No valet we had to park at the top of the garage and walk all the way down, where there looked to be sewage water on the lower deck. My wife's food was discarded by mistake so she was unhappy. Other than that, service was decent, food and view were remarkable.
Would be better if the restaurant still rotated, however, I understand the safety concerns with that.
Creme brulee is the best!
Wish I knew the valet parking is compimentary when you dine in!! I paid $8 to park across the street.
A bit pricey and food was okay. My partner said the texture of their food was good, however, they felt it could use more seasoning.
I think you're paying more for the experience/atmosphere than the food when you dine here.
My boyfriend surprised me with a reservation for this place for Valentine’s Day! I had never been and always wanted to go! let me say it was AMAZING!! of course it is pricey but everything we got was delicious. I ordered the short rib dish and my boyfriend ordered the baked lobster! For an appetizer we had the kobe beef special (delicious) and dessert we had the creme brulee. i highly recommend this place! Very pleased and will be back! also our server James was incredible! very polite and knowledgeable! 😊
Sadly I brought my kids here as a super cool staycation...and it no longer is a restaurant that spins. Would be nice if someone before handing you a menu told you this. that sundial is no longer a sundial! Restaurant does not revolve. No plans to make it revolve again FYI.
There is no point in spending the ridiculous prices unless restaurants spins.. The “incident” with the child that was caught was a “one off”, too bad it has to ruin such a fun experience for so many.
Oh well we made the most of it. Just sad it doesn’t spin and open table needs to add that to the description.
This will be the last time we eat there. We've been going 3 to 4 times a year for over 15 years. Most the servers know us from the years of dining. The menu was not worth $120. The menu should be emailed out in advance to give guests the option of eating there since the paying guest isn't has important as the Chef and there are no substitutions for any reason. We got there and someone was seated in our reservation. We got drilled with 20 questions as if we did something wrong. No apology was given. Service has declined through the years and now the quality of the food is terrible. I'm not spending my money there. The Palm has improved their service and maintained their excellent quality. Good luck.
Me and wifey really enjoy our Wednesday afternoon experience at the Sun Dail. The staff was amazing and good service with a smile, but the best moment is when I took a picture of her hold a Benz in her hand with Atlanta sky view behind her was breathless.
I said to myself I love M.E. Some M.E..
We like to thank the staff for a wonderful experience...
WE will be back!
I haven’t been here in awhile but I wanted to treat a friend the dinner... I boasted about the rotating dinning experience. I didn’t find out until I was seated that it hasn’t rotated in almost a year... The ambiance was the only reason I came back, the food is just ordinary and over priced.
Jason was terrible. We weren't greeted for at least 5 minutes, and when he did do so we weren't even told his name. Not a single speal or even a bit of history about Sun Dial. It was all 8 of our first times joining your establishment. We had to ask for drinks, ask twice for black linens, and weren't even checked on during our meal. Our food was just okay. The fries were the best part of the meal. Maybe if our service was a better experience we could have enjoyed the food more. Thank goodness for the server assistants who kept our water full. We will not be back. I'm not sure if Jason was having a rough day or he had too many tables, but it was a very unfortunate experience, and a WASTE of $657.
I didn’t appreciate being charged $2.00 for tap water. Closing the restaurant down around diners at that price level is not appropriate. I am a GM for another restaurant in Atlanta and I don’t operate my business as they did and my price point isn’t even close to what I paid that night. If you’re going to charge those prices “which I am okay with” create an experience for the diner and don’t gauge the customer for tap water that wasn’t even asked for!
The food was okay but I don’t think it was worth the price. They actually charged for water. No one even asked for water, they just brought it over and filled out glasses. Although the charge was only $1 it seems kind of ridiculous to charge for it.
The lamb chops were extremely salty.
The view was really nice.
And our server was exquisite. I wouldn’t recommend this place for the food but the view and service were great.
