The Sultan's Tent Ratings and Reviews
I went to this restaurant to celebrate New Year with my boyfriend. They offer a four courses prix fixe menu in that day for $100 per person which include soup, salad, main entrees and dessert. At the beginning the waitress brought us wrong items which is other table’s food. After that they didn’t bring us the first course lobster bisque but a little deep fried potato ball instead. Imagine it’s like a grape size and the thing is this dish even not exist in the menu.... There is a lot of fat in the steak also, and the side of veggies was so poor, zucchini with red peppers. I searched from yelp the portion and quality of the food is fine but what I experienced was totally different. I was so disappointed. If the restaurants were too busy to handle all the customers so shouldn’t accept that much reservations. Literally 100 box just wasted.
The food arrived quickly and all at once, which is great. The server seemed a little out to lunch, the staff called earlier in the day to see where we would like to be seated and then didn't write this down anywhere so they tried to bring us into the tent after requesting not to be there. Part way through the meal the staff took the heaters away without a word, leaving the front end of the restaurant to slowly freeze. The food was good, but nothing to write home about.
I think the idea of the Sultan's tent has a nice atmosphere, seating and decorations, but I was disappointed in the quality and flavour of the food, especially for the prices we were paying. I could get way better food in Toronto for a fraction of the price, and I have had much better Moroccan food in other restaurants in Toronto over the years. These meals lacked even the basic spices of Moroccan cuisine and were very thrown together for a bland palate. The wait staff seemed strained and bored, although they were polite and attentive. The belly dancer was lovely and did her best to engage the diners, but it also felt like she was more of an afterthought rather then the central "show" that is marketed. It feels like a place that is way past it's prime.
We were put in the front of the "cafe" part of the restaurant at a table meant for 2 people where we were a party of four. We were told this is what you get when you book through open table. Our server was also the bartender who would tend to us only when there were no drinks to be made from clients in the rest of the restaurant. It took 45 mins to get our initial drink orders. The food quality was good, but the overall experience was not based on the above.
THIS IS A TERRIBLE RESTAURANT THAT TRIES TO DISGUISE THIS BEHIND THE BELLY DANCING SHOWS
Very disappointed overall. Slow service once seated, seemed very disorganized in the restaurant as a whole. Main course arrived cold and was replaced by an entree that you could buy in any major food court for $13---on the Prix fixe menu they offer on Saturday nights I had the pleasure of paying $55 for it (!!!!!).
The biggest red flag was when I asked to speak to a manager and a server from another section stepped forward - - no one whose actual job it was to make sure things ran smoothly.
The belly dancers performance was great, but not enough to salvage the night.
I've lived in Toronto for years and was always curious about it, and at least I know not to go back.
Amazing Entertainment! Came here for dinner for husbands birthday dinner and the service was entertaining and above and beyond! We visited on a Saturday evening at 7 pm and didnt know we would get to witness a live belly dancer! And not the mention the food, presentation, portions, flavour and the service was phenomenal! Trulyyy a wonderful evening! Memorable!! Moroccan cuisine! We sure to order the Moroccan tea bcuz the serving style is authentic and exciting to see!
It is great place for both group dinners, and with someone special. Ambiance is great, comfortable, unique Moroccan, and very relaxing. Menu offers great selection of both Moroccan and Canadian dishes, great selection of wine, and alcoholic beverages, weekend evenings offer belly dancing as an additional special feature.
All in all a great experience!
I've been here before that's why I wanted to take my boyfriend for his birthday. However, when making the reservations, I specifically stated that it was his birthday in the notes and that I would like his dessert to have a candle in it, or some sort of birthday surprise. In addition when I received a confirmation call the day of the reservation I told the lady on the phone and she ensured me that they made a note of my request, and of course when the server brought out the dessert it didn't have anything. I was very disappointed by this and I will not be returning because simple instructions weren't followed. Also, the food was okay, but the drinks we ordered were awful, and I requested a corner seat on the cushioned pillions, and I didn't get it, but there were 3 of those seats available. The entertainment was nice because it was different, however they had several difficulties trying to start the audio.
Went here for a anniversary date with my girlfriend, quite disappointed. For a $55 prix fixe menu, I expected more. The restaurant was too brightly lit when we arrived around 8:30. The show was scheduled for 9 so I planned our reservation accordingly however it was delayed until 9:40, but slow service accompanied it so we had our food barely in time. The appetizer, the muful (sp? Meat cigars) was tasty although could've easily been a frozen entree I picked up from the grocery store and I would've known the difference, with a dash of sauce over it to make it fancy. For the main I had an extremely bland lamb shank, the flavor boiled out of it, and my girlfriend had the tanjine. This was on my recommendation as I've been to Morocco and know how beautiful this dish can be. Now I looked like a fool for suggesting a flavour less chicken breast, with a hint of saffron in the rice. The belly dancers started shortly there after, and were entertaining. The dessert was a standard chocolate tart a la any coffee house... Overall, very very disappointed. Don't waste your money here, go else where for better food, service and experience...
We had an original reservation for 6:15. When we got there we were told the show was changed to 9:00. I had brought my daughter, and wanted her to experience the show. So, we had to wait around downtown for a couple more hours. The service was extremely slow. I don't think we will be returning.
We went there for our Wedding Anniversary.
Great food. We had the hummus and the 'cigar' for starters and the lamb shanks for main. Both excellent choices. There is a set 3-course menu or an a la carte with the same items. The portions were generous and the food high quality.
The service was excellent.
The belly dancing was an added bonus which made it a memorable evening.
I'd love to leave a review for this restaurant but the service was so bad we left. We had been seated promptly but waited 20 minutes and still no server. Not even an offer of WATER and no indication they would be serving us anytime soon we left. We overheard several other patrons complaining about service and indicating they would never return. Two servers for roughly 20 tables. They were running their butts off but getting nowhere. Got up and politely said "it seemed as if they were too busy for our business." The waiters astounded me by saying "yes"! Never going back. I've only rated as a one star in the catagories because Opentable won't let you post unless you fill in all the categories
