Poor service. Fair food.
So I planned a date day with my wife and wanted to end the day with a great meal. She loves authentic Moroccan food and so I booked this restaurant hoping we would experience a great meal and a belly dancing show. The front end service was welcoming and the complimentary coat check was a nice touch. We were seated in the main hall and not the nice tent areas, it felt like we were in the way of the staff as the ran up and down the hall.
The young man (Bill showed Team L ) took our order and talked up the menu like we were about to experience the best Moroccan food without travelling thousands of miles. The appetizers were not great and the seafood was over cooked - I will mention the night was a fixed menu so we suspect that the food was mass produced rather than cooked to order. My main was a beef tagine and other than couscous the dish had no Moroccan flavor. My wife had the cod tagine and had similar lack of flavor. Our server did not check on us so I waved the manager (Georgio) over, he was too busy and surprisingly provided complimentary Moroccan cigars to offset the poor dinner - my wife does not eat red meat and so this was not a great choice. The desert came and once again with no interaction from our server and therefore no tea or coffee. The manager once again was called over and he had another server bring a coffee and pot of Moroccan mint tea. Let me say the bitter taste was too strong to correct, maybe their standard menu and a weeknight dinner may be different.
The belly dancing show was interesting and as my wife had taken lessons she enjoyed the show. The dancers were engaging the patrons so I thought this somewhat helped end the night on a positive note.
The manager gave me his card and stated to come back and he would take care of the appetizers. After spending 2.5 hours being ignored and a drastic lack of Moroccan flavor in the fixed menu the odds of us making the hour drive back to Toronto to not enjoy a meal is less than our next Lotto win.
We had a really nice time, service was responsive to our requests/questions and made a great wine reco. The show was entertaining!
Ambience and most of the staff were great! Cocktails were awesome but somewhat expensive. Food was below quality expectations for my group, especially when you factor in the weekend Prix Fixe ($59)/pp. The belly dancer was very talented, but we were seated at her outer range, so we only saw her for a few seconds at a time. Otherwise, we had to look through other booths and could only see her partially. We were there for a birthday (and I noted that on the reservation and mentioned it to the waiter) yet it wasn’t acknowledged in any way.
It was a great time food was good and drinks delish. Daniel was an awesome server
I have been making reservations using OpenTable for the past 4 years. I have yet to encounter a restaurant with such poor customer service, food, and value. I was on the fence because of the mixed reviews on here and as well as on Google for this restaurant. But bottom line is this: I would NOT recommend this restaurant. Not only did they not honour my OpenTable reservation, my company and I were there for over 2 hours due to their very slow service. At the time of reservation, we also indicated that we will be bringing a cake and confirmed with the restaurant that they would cut the cake for us. After our dinner, we asked the waiter to bring out our cake. The waiter said they could not cut the cake for us and just handed it back to us in the original box. Clearly, a lot of discordance with what they promised at the time of reservation vs in-restaurant experience. Their portion sizes were also very small. I have a severe gluten allergy and asked my pitas to be put on the side as opposed to on top of my dish. The restaurant did not listen and put it on top of my dish. When I asked them to re-make the dish, they refused to do it. All in all, avoid this restaurant and place at all costs.
I noticed the improvements under new ownership. The service was much improved, the food quicker to the table, and more to the theme of the restaurant. I will be back
They were massively understaffed the night we went. It was my wife's birthday and although they called me twice to confirm the reservation and I asked specifically for an accessible table and a birthday dessert it did not happen. We were seated in the far back of the restaurant facing the kitchen door. Although others had birthdays noted with dessert, they did not do this for us. It was a bit upsetting for my wife and I. A lost opportunity for them to make a long term customer.
I like the environment. Belly dance. Overall its expensive though. But 2 visit in a year is not bad.
Great night. Good food. Good entertainment. Drinks are too pricey but great otherwise
The food was cold and not very good. We waited for the waiter to take our order for a very long time, it was expensive and the food was not authentic.
It was fun and the food was great.
Sultan's Tent has a fabulous atmosphere and it is a fun night out of entertainment. The music; however, was somewhat too loud for easy conversation and food lacked a bit of flavour. NB. The menu has GF options but it is not celiac safe. My appetizer was a seafood medely which had a GF symbol and when it arrived slices of pita were all piled up in the dish. The bellydancers were fabulous and service was great. I would recommend for a group.
Great service, attentive server, nice decor, but subpar food
Had a great experience, enjoyed the live show. Highly recommend checking it out
Went for a first date there. It was the total experience. And having Mamun as our host is what got me a second date.
Some say it's a little pricey...but the magic you get is priceless.
Food was okay, hummus had no flavour, and our chicken dishes were dry and needed salt, beet salad was great.
The service was the WORST I’ve ever encountered! At first our waiter was funny and cheeky, but it got old fast and we waited forever for drinks, and salt and pepper. It seemed bigger parties got the attention and they forgot about us double tables.
Also you can’t leave a tip smaller than 15%!
Wouldn’t recommend this place at all!
Very nice restaurant loved the ambiance and the show. Food was ok could have been better. Flavor was lacking.
Good food. Slightly pushy service to cramp people together despite more seats being available.
Belly dancing was great and energetic.
Food and drinks were nice
I took my sister for her birthday! It was just the best experience! It was a little pricy but totally worth it! The belly dancing was amazing! The belly dancers put on a thirty minute show with five different songs to showcase all the different types of belly dancing, and then they invite costumers up to dance with them. The food was great, I recommend multiple appetizers to share. The servers were very nice too, totally catering to everything you wanted/needed. Plus, the cocktails were amazing and so original!
Awesome experience, great service, loved the crowd involvement from the dancers
Preset 3 course menu for certain number of parties (don't know how much people, we had 5). I don't think the meal was worth $60 plus whatever drink purchases we had. The slow cooked short ribs were delicious, but I don't care for couscous which came with it. Belly dancers were amazing, I don't understand how they can move like that! Overall I guess I'm ok with it since I've always wanted to check it out. I wouldn't go again, and not sure if I'd care to recommend it to others either.
Went with a large group. We were treated like movie stars. Amazing service. Would highly recommend the experience.
Host wasn’t smiling at all, food was not flavourful as I expected it to be and over cooked, crème brûlée was good, belly dancer was good and very friendly
Great service, ambiance, food is average, great entertainment however not appropriate for small children under age of 14 due to belly dancing and loud music.
Good experience and the food was tasty, although smaller portions. A little pricey and service could have been a bit more prompt. Check your bill if you decide to go with the vegetarian menu since there is a difference in price.
Starter was great, main was okay and dessert was nice.
Sultan's tent is a great spot to go to on a date or with a group as the food is tasty, the service is diligent, and the ambiance is cool.
Cozy, quiet restaurant for a pre-theatre dinner. Ample tasty choices for any size appetite.
Delicious food, friendly staff, fast service! Will be back!
Goat cheese appetizer very good. Lamb dish ok. Tangine was not a true tangine and not delish. Never offered dessert. Had to ask for the bill as there was a vey long wait. Tried to up sell wine and when declines brought a bottle without confirming it, opened it just as approaching table and poured..... said nothing and walked away. Service over all was very poor.
Poor serci e, bland food at a premium price.
Would not recomend.
Delish and great fun! Wonderful food, good service. Belly-dancing!!
I brought my wife for her birthday and she was very pleased. Mamun was and is a very attentive server he did a great job. The dancers were wonderful and she enjoyed them very much. We will return in the future for sure.
I took my spouse here for his birthday and we were both thoroughly pleased with all the tastes of our food orders as well as the fun entertainment aspect. The atmosphere is truly the best seller of this venue (and the food of course) I highly recommend this spot!
Excellent service, great atmosphere and awesome belly dancing show. The hummus was creamy and tasty and the Baklava and cheese cake were quite delicious. The vegetables from my main course were perfectly cooked!
The one negative we experienced was our waiter who was completely inappropriate and rude. He kept making flirtatious comments and even picked up my friends phone at one point to read her text messages. The food was amazing and the show but the server really made the evening uncomfortable.
Friendly staff, great ambiance and good food. Great experience!
Sultan's Tent has being around for quite a while but has always brought something very special to downtown but as far as I know you can't find anywhere else. Eating within a Moroccan tent, watching belly dancing while eating succulent food and drinking handcrafted cocktails or one of the many great beers they have in house makes for a superb evening. This is a great spot for a romantic night, a group of friends or business colleagues alike. My wife and I are about to have our first child, so we thought it would be fun to go once again to Sultan's Tent right before it gets too close to the date. We literally chose this as our last night out! And remember, don't be afraid to belly dance, you will be rewarded, and not just with your friends laughter!
The food was great, the atmosphere was luscious and the service was impeccable. Our server was entertaining yet not intrusive, always on top of things and yet we never felt rushed. Have to learn how to make the chickpea salad. LOVED it.
