The Strand House Ratings and Reviews
We went for dine la and the menu was very good, excellent service. We chose the $25 wine pairing which seemed like a bargain versus us ordering 1-2 bottles of wine. The pourings were SO SMALL, we barely felt we had one glass requiring us to order extra wine which made it more expensive than ordering wine of our choice. We would have appreciated when we were deciding wine pairings or purchase we could have been told that pourings were small. Our waitress was great, but disappointed in wine options. Have dined at others with pairing never this small.
Had reservation through Open at 12:45 for 5 people for a birthday, was told since we were 10 minutes late that they no longer had our reservation but she will see what she can do. Seriously, never sat down until a little after 2 pm. Almost 1 1/2 later finally sat down. Ended up in a table with the sun in our eyes the entire meal after turning down a table outside in the sun. Meal was fine. First time we were all there, somewhat disappointed. They provided a menu with happy birthday on it and provided a cute dessert at the end with a candle.
2 bloody Mary’s, 1 mimosas and 2 beers $75...
On the Open Table reservation site, I had indicated that we were celebrating a birthday and retirement, and we were pleasantly surprised upon being seated that they had personalized the menu with a congratulatory message about the birthday and retirement! The waitress gave us good explanations of the entrees so that we could make our choices more easily. I had been here before many years ago, and was happy to find the food better than I had remembered. We had a fun, pleasant time celebrating our special occasion, seated next to the window on a sunny South Bay day!
Went for my wife’s birthday on a Saturday night. First time here. There was a group party event on the other side of a curtain that was loud so ambiance gets low marks. Food was terrific (Tortilla Soup and T-Bone for two were fantastic)! Drinks were terrific (you have to try their version of a Manhattan - they have a special name for it)! Dessert was wonderful (where else can you go to have fresh donuts for a dinner dessert?).
You may wait a bit when you arrive. It is typically very busy. They will do their best to accommodate. The servers and runners could be a bit more attentive (i.e. keep water filled, clear tables in a timely manner, listen to specifics, etc.). The brunch menu has a good range of options. The staff is good about recommendations.
This place has it all. Quintessential Southern California dining and exceptional views. Nothing beats the the scenic pier, waves and surfers enjoying the Pacific Ocean while the staff caters to your every need. Thanks Michael, Nick and the entire crew. Five stars and beyond!!
It took a very long time for the waiter to take our order. My guest actually waived someone down after 15 minutes of nothing. Towards the end of the meal I was asked if I was still working on my meal, as the waiter reached for it I stated I was so he left it along with the meat and cheese board. I was in deep conversation and was still not finished and he came back and removed not just my meal that I said I was not finished with but he also took the meat and cheese board we were not finished with. He did not ask this time he just took them as he asked us if we wanted dessert. Had I not been with the company I was with I would have complained then and there so I am glad to receive this.
I cannot say enough about the food, wine, service and the chef. And the management. It was a special occasion, my daughter‘s birthday. Salads, appetizers, main courses were shared by the three of us. And every one of us loved everything. And a view to boot. A gastronomic feasts. Oh, and the deserts-💕
We ordered the T-bone for two to share - medium rare. It came out medium rare but cold on the outside so they took it back and put under the broiler - so it came out warm but unfortunately cooked it more so wasn’t quite medium rare and it was tougher than it should’ve been.
I booked Strand for my friends’ 50th wedding anniversary! I have always had great experiences whenever I go to the Strand, and this time it was even more so! We had a great table, great food, attentive server! And; our celebratory friends were honored with aspecial desserts , donuts plus another dessert with a candle! They were thrilled! Thank u for making this a special time for them!
We came out from Kansas just looking for a good steak. Our hotel recommended due to its amazing view of the ocean and delicious food. Our server was very attentive, explained everything properly without overwhelming any of the details. I wish I could remember his name to give him props. Our steaks were cooked exactly as expected and my mother’s salad was fresh and flavorful. Drinks always full without having to ask. Desert was also great, their house donuts with different varieties of toppings. The low light semi noisy atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for. Prices are up there but it’s fine dining and well worth it. I will make sure I come back when I’m in the LA area for sure. Thank you to all the folks at The Strand House for making it a pleasurable night.
Love this Place! Romantic yet fun. Great seafood, great stuffed pizza (amazing and different), salads were delicious, don't miss the french fries, loved the old fashion (didn't try the one with cinnamon), wine choices were good, and the view of the pier is fantastic. Very festive. Really nice bar area, although I have only eaten at the restaurant upstairs.
Great location with an awesome ocean view. Look at their menu ahead of time online so you know what you want to order to save time waiting. It’s an average of 20-30 minutes wait to eat. Food is prepared as you order. Order appetizers 👍! Food taste good but pricey, $100 for lunch with tip for 2pax.
