The Stephanie Inn Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
Entrance into the dining room is somewhat undefined and visually awkward. Unfortunately the restaurant overlooks the asphalt parking lot and not the beach. What was the architect thinking? The staff are wonderful, very gracious and hospitable and well versed in the menu offerings. The food tasting while correctly prepared is somewhat lackluster in flavor. Not many options in Cannon Beach but worth a try here.
In spite of the reviews we chose Stephanie Inn for our anniversary dinner. Not a lot of selection on the menu. We both ordered fish and my husband complained that the fish wasn't cooked enough. I had the crab cakes - very good, but nothing special. Restaurant overlooked the parking lot. $15 for a glass of wine was a bit much. Service was very good. We would not go back.
We enjoyed a fabulous meal in celebration of an anniversary! Highly recommended for very fine food and wine and for the relaxed, elegant and romantic setting. Service was gracious and timing perfect! We have dined at the Stephanie Inn for many special occasions! Always wonderful!
Limited menu, does not over look the ocean (parking lot side of the Inn) and offers good, but not great food quality. Our waitress was perfect. The atmosphere uninspiring but okay. We had the wagyu style eye of ribeye - flavorful as you would expect for American wagyu but it was not a truly memorable steak, probably due to the less than one inch cut and lack of crisp charming on the exterior of our medium rare cuts. Excellent chowder and sorbet / ice cream desert. The wine choices were also surprisingly limited. My martini was a bit watered down and tepid, with none of the shaken, fresh slush markings of a professionally crafted and served straight up cocktail. The restaurant is just not quite what you would expect in atmosphere and diversity of choice in a $500 plus per night resort.
Top notch service-very attentive! Menu changes-we had seen online they had rack of lamb and pear soup but the day we visited it was not on the menu. Our dinner was quite tasty. The restaurant itself is nice but when we walked into the Inn they just pointed us to go upstairs to the restaurant-it was not well marked. The restaurant also has view of the parking lot. All and all it was a good experience.
Live nearby and thought we would venture in to celebrate an anniversary. Wanted to dine between 6:30 and 7:00..... website said nothing available during those hours even though reservations were attempted over fifteen days in advance. So, we opened the restaurant @ 5:30 and saw later that more than half of the tables were vacant @ 7:00. Mentioned this to our waitress who replied that they try and leave several tables unused for walk-ins who are staying at the resort...... go figure.
Wait staff was professional, courteous and efficient. Food had some unique flavor profiles that we both enjoyed. The crab risotto was prepared perfectly with an abundance of crab. Plating was artistic yet simple. The halibut dinner was, unfortunately, a bit overcooked. Not dry and flavorless, but just a bit too long in the pan. Wine list was ample with too few wines in the $40-$80 range. A few under $40 and several over $100 that were the usual Oregon wineries with a smattering of Calf. products yet very few if any imported juice. No bar in sight, but sipped a pleasant cocktail made behind the scenes.
All in all a most delightful evening in a pleasing atmosphere. Wish we could have dined a bit later and experienced properly prepared halibut. With so many good eateries in the area we may or may not return to Stephanie for dining. Still good overall marks.
Starting with the good, the food was excellent. Scallop appetizer was perfectly cooked and sauce was delicious. My wife and I had salmon and lamb respectively. Both were excellent and well prepared. Definitely enjoyed the food.
The wine list was marginal as it appeared to be focused on promoting Oregon wines rather than providing a broad array of quality varietals. If you are looking for a oak/butter chardonnay, best reset your expectations. From the bar, if you enjoy a peaty single malt scotch, then you have some selections to choose from. If you prefer a smoother smoky blend, again you will have to look elsewhere. This is definitively not a "something for everyone" establishment.
Ambiance was also lacking. Service was pleasant and very efficient, but not entirely knowledgeable about the menu and beverages. I would also expect something more out of the location at $50 a plate. The view from the restaurant is the back parking lot. Not exactly something that makes you feel like you're somewhere special.
Overall there are choices in Cannon Beach that provide a much better experience and value.
My husband & I are both foodies & vegetarian (and enformed the restaurant of us being vegetarian when we made the reservation). Upon arrival, we were informed that they made us a 5 course tasting option (if interested) with TWO different main entries - neither of them being pasta!! The meal was absolutely AMAZING!! Honestly, one of the best meals we've ever had - and the staff was beyond pampering. I'm already planning on when we can go back. This place is a MUST!
