My husband and I stayed at the Fountain Grove Inn right before the fires destroyed this cute hotel and restaurant. The Steakhouse was great! A lot of tasty dishes on their menu and service was the best. I was very sorry to hear that the restaurant is no longer there.
ONe service person and very slow. Took forever to get our food (which was very good) and then had to wait again for a long time before we got our check
We really wanted the Porterhouse Steak for two, but it wasn't available, disapointing
Food was not cooked to order. Prime Rib ordered med rare, was raw. Flat iron ordered rare, was raw. Did not come with sauce that was ordered. Bread was at least two days old. Caesar salad was bottle dressing. Horrible.
Great food, great service, a good size to the prime rib, which was perfectly cooked? The souffle was wonderful.
My husband wanted a great steak for his 70th birthday so we took him to Equus because we read good reviews. The meal was absolutely cold as if it had just come out of a refrigerator. The bill was expensive which would have been ok had the meal been worthwhile. The portions were expensive and minimal. Next time, we'll go to Cattleman's.
We are very pleased to have Equus in our neighborhood. The menu is very good as well as the service. The servers are very pleasant & accommodating. Looking forward to next visit.
Both meals were way over cooked. We started eating and stopped. Pushed out plates to the side and when waiter asked we mentioned it was over cooked. His response was I'm sorry handed is out tab with no more questions or thoughts. The bill for 2 people was over $300.00 with a bottle of wine. Very disappointed
The food was spectacular. The lamb chops are the best that I've ever had.
No AC, broken & like fools, we stayed since other similar steakhouses would probably be busy since it was Father's Day
Prime rib was cool to touch & grilled like a steak on the outside - very odd
Ribeye was very fatty & again, not hot. It also had an odd propane like taste - like it had been cooked over a small torch
Service was very lame - not enthusiastic at all
Only good part was the young woman who constantly kept our waters filled.
For having no AC on a 100+ night, management should've apologized profusely & offered some discount for we fools who endured. Several parties left due to the heat.
I'm not so sure I'd return.
I have never been disappointed when dining st Equus...
Expensive but not worth it.
Food was good but prices were simply too high.
Food was good but hard to enjoy when the service was so terrible.
This place is way way above average. The food is very good. The drinks are generous. The service is friendly and professional. Have the Caesar salad for two made right at your table. Fun and delicious.
Went on a date night with my wife. We ordered the Caesar salad for two which was so so. We ordered the Porter House steak for two which was cooked to perfection. However, I also ordered a lobster tail which was old, dry and had little flavor. It was also very little in size (two bites). This might be a nice place to meet for drinks but I would pass on dinner.
Unbelievably horrible. Requested one of the most common preparations for steak ( medium rare) , the first steak came out medium well, even after telling our server to have the kitchen err on the rare side. Sent it back, which I NEVER DO, the replacement steak was so undercooked it was purple and cold in the middle. Threw my hands up and decided to catch some tacos on the way home. Things happen in the kitchen. I totally get it. However, the place was at around 30% capacity( warning sign on a Friday night) and they still didn't have the time to get it right. That said, the main reason for this negative review is the lack of professional customer service. When a customer is having a negative experience, with validation, one would think that , at the very least, the manager would swing by the table and comp some drinks. That being a very common and , therefore, expected outcome, it didn't happen. The manager was otherwise occupied talking to her friends in the common prep area. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a positive experience, seek it elsewhere.
The steaks, at $40 plus, are not dry aged and are choice cuts.
We thought the food was very tasty, fresh and great presentation. The ambiance was very nice with lots of pretty wood features. Good service and very attentive. We would go there again.
It was VERY Pricey! I was shocked when I got the bill for Mothers Day Brunch. While the options were excellent and cooked well, I didn't feel it rated a $55 per person charge.
Good food and wait staff is so friend and knowledgeable regarding wine and meats
I have been recommending this restaurant.
Great Blood Orange Jalapeno Martini! Food was good. Just wish it had more liveliness!
Had a most enjoyable evening with family members. We were impressed with the quality of the service and the food.
The food was great. We both enjoyed our anniversary dinner. I would recommended this Restauant to my family and friends.
The host when entering restaurant was great. Was seated right away.... After the initial hello at table, it was quite some time waiting to order drinks. Then received drinks and waited a long time to take order. That was how the rest of the evening went. The Waitress service was poor at best. Had to Wait a long time for everything. Had to ask for bread, waters etc... Waitress was not readily available at all, most of the time we didn't see her. The best part about the whole experience was the Bus girl, she was helpful and nice...... At these prices, I was expecting better....
The food was excellent as I had heard it would be. But one thing that was incongruous was the fact that two of three drinks I ordered were really badly made. I mean awful. First I had ordered a capirihna, and after the waitress came back and admitted that the bartender said they didn't have cachaca (the Brazilian rum-like liquor in this drink), I said they could make it with white rum instead... but when it came, it was in a tall glass loaded with that horrible margarita-mix-like stuff that is mostly citric acid (for those who don't know, a capirinha is a muddled drink where they muddle limes and sugar in the glass and then add the liquor). The bartender hadn't even looked it up to see how it is made, or something. Then I ordered a Mai Tai to see how they handled that... again, way, way off the mark and loaded with yucky mix or bottled lime juice... undrinkable. I sent it back and got a pineapple juice with rum and that one was palatable. So the question is, why is a restaurant of this caliber employing a bartender who can't even make a Mai Tai?
Great food but unfortunately they allow people to smoke right outside. A group of 4 cigar smokers ruined the end of our meal as every time the front door opened a cloud of smoke came wafting in! Yuck!
Food OK, good but not spectacular. PRICES OUTRAGEOUS!
Not half bad. I enjoyed the scallops stroganoff which was quite good and unique. My wife had the filet, pretty normal. Chef rj
Dinner went well but creme Brullee was undercooked & made me ill.
We decided to try it for the restaurant week menu. Service was very slow. We had A 6:45 reservation and ordered as soon as our waiter was available to take our order. Our appetizer took a bit but our main was not served until 8 pm. It was warm but not hot and the Brussel sprouts were undercooked. Fortunately we were not in a hurry. The restaurant was busy but stafffing seemed adequate.
Our steak was grossly under done for medium rare; cool and blue in the middle. We asked to have it sent back. Once returned to the table, some of the same food delivered on the first plate was still there on the returned plate now cold and inedible. Several times the manager walked by, first time obvious I was eating alone, second time obvious my husband was eating alone. The server was good, but unsure if he was observing his orders prior to coming out, and not sure if he alerted the manager of our service issue. We sat for a significant amount of time for this problem to be fixed, to the point we ordered a second glass of wine each which we feel should have been comp'd. Stark Steakhouse has comparable pricing and significantly better service.
Incredible Valentine's Day menu and pairing. Claire was our server and was very attentive. The atmosphere was romantic with low lighting and the wood horse carving art decor nice. We made reservations online with Open Table and received an email of confirmation and another one that was a reminder of the date. When we arrived, we received a long stem red rose and seated in a comfortable booth. Started with a glass of Dom Perignon and appetizers and the entree we had the filet minion with roasted red potatoes and sautéed toy box mushrooms paired with a Cabernet. Dessert was chocolate covered strawberries and cherries paired with port. Highly recommend for an intimate dining experience.
Food wasn't worth the money the wines were just ok. Dessert was the best food served. I give it 2 out of 5 overall. I'm a tough judge and maybe a little hard to please, but I expect a lot for a $300 special meal and I wasn't wowed at all. Oh yeah service spilled oysters on me and around me, so maybe a 1 out of 5.
This the first time i have been to Equis and my wife and I loved it, the wine paring was fabulous the food was cooked perfect and tasted awesome the atmosphere was inviting and quite. We will definitely be coming back to dine, Thank you Equis
Everything you expect from a quality steakhouse ... upscale.
It was my wife's birthday and she enjoyed herself and is ready to return.
Prices are high, but offset by excellent quality in food and service.
Active bar, but dining room was quiet ... 4 couples.
Side dishes enough to split as was steak. Good local wine list.
Made a reservation on a weeknight at 8 o'clock. It was very slow, so we options in where to sit which was nice. Didn't take long for the server to ask for drinks but took about 10 minutes to recieve our drinks which seemed odd for how slow it was. We quickly decided what we wanted: new York (medium rare) with a au gratin potatoes side and the catch of the day, as well as a salad to start. The salad was at our table about the same time they brought our bread and butter. Our main course came out within appropriate time. Upon receiving the meal the steak was cooked rare and the catch of the day (salmon, topped with crab meat and a pastry topping) was cold. The waiter didn't return to our table to check on us or bring the side of potatoes we ordered. We continued and ate our meal as we received it. When we finally stopped him (the waiter) he looked at us and instantly started laughing at someone in the back and walked past us giving us the look of I'll bring boxes. He sent a girl over to take our plates and leave the bill, never asking how the meal was. I was very disappointed in the waiter as the potatoes weren't on the bill to say he didn't even put them in. It was extremely slow which worried me how bad it would be on a busy night. Food was all good other than them not quite being exactly what we ordered and expected. I've been going to equus for over 20 years, and don't plan on ever returning.
From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. The food and service great. Even though a large and very loud group came in toward the end we would definitely return.
Holiday meals are always a challenge and a fixed price format is one way to meet that challenge. The ambience and attentive service are top notch. The appetizer selection was well done - a grilled veg dish, a salad, a bisque, prawns etc. The main entrees were good for some (prime rib) and not so for others (stuffed farmed salmon in a wellington pastry shell). Didn't try the pork loin or cheese ravioli's (really? as an entree for $60?). The dessert selection was well done - tiramisu, decadent brownie with gelato and a brûlée style pudding. The wine list was local and moderately priced. So overall, we enjoyed the experience, but the Thanksgiving offering was more competitive price wise and selection wise...tough to compete with yourself. We may look elsewhere next year if it's up to the salmon entree person.
Service was slow but good for Christmas Day. Food was great.
Will not recommend nor ever going back.
Service was not good at all , food so so!
Very disappointing! It had been about a year since I was here for lunch. In spite of having an early reservation and being one of only 3 tables, it took an hour to have our order taken!!! I also had expected to be seated in the dining room but they only use the bar now - not nearly as nice. I ordered the ahi tuna which was good but the two small pieces were not nearly filling (and pricey). It is too bad but this spot is off my list now. They gave no excuse for the long wait (sick staff??) and the food was delivered by the GM.
