The Station at Mountain Lakes Ratings and Reviews
Since moving to Mountain Lakes a year ago, we finally decided to walk down the street for dinner and we are sure glad we did. Cozy (it is very tight) restaurant with tons of charm. Broad wine list and a fantastic bartender! Food was well-prepared and portions were generous. We had the stuffed salmon and steak Diane - the salmon was fantastic, the steak itself was meh - although the sauce was flavourful. Don't miss the scallop potatoes, they are delicious. The only knock is the venue can be loud, and don't sit on the right side of the downstairs dining room on the banquets....they were the original waiting room chairs and are VERY narrow. We will return and can't wait for warmer weather for the outdoor patio.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Station in Mountain Lakes. The wait staff was attentive but not over bearing. Our lunch was absolutely delicious. We shared an appetizer with prosciutto. The prosciutto was the best I've ever had. My entree was Chicken Toscana. I would order it again in a heartbeat. It was outstanding. I can't wait to return for another meal!
Fantastic quality food. Cajun corn chowder was so flavorful with just the right bite of spice. Great malbec by the glass to compliment the entree, a huge stuffed pork chop, stuffed with cornbread and sausage stuffing. Flavorful natural gravy drizzle over the top added to the complex flavors of the entree. Finished off with some fresh steamed veggies and a small serving of mashed potatoes.
Wonderful meal at The Station. Arugula salad was excellent! Had a chicken pasta dish which was flavorful and tasted like my grandma used to make on Sundays. Husband had jambalaya which was tasty with authentic Cajun flavor. Apple pie was also terrific...just like home made! Staff here is the best, from the smiling and friendly manager who greets you to the young man who brings the bread, the wait staff who take your order and runners who bring your food. Friendly, cozy vibe with really great food served in the beautiful old train station. Highly recommend!
Always enjoy eating at the Station at Mountain Lakes. The food is excellent and the service very good. Enjoyed eating outside this time - and unlike some restaurants where outside dining comes with a lot of traffic noise, it is very quiet at The Station. Highly recommend the smoked trout & salmon appetizer and shrimp & spinach entree.
We came here for dinner, to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, we were treated with the utmost care, respect, and impeccable, friendly service. We loved eating outdoors, in the back. The weather was perfect, as was the whole dining experience. A great night!
This is a charming restaurant with delicious food and a great outdoor dining area. It was our second time eating at this establishment in Mountain Lakes.
Our experience began as we were warmly greeted by a hostess at the door and then a host on our way to our seats. We chose to dine al fresco to take advantage of the lovely patio that is encircled by trees and has soft pop music from discreetly placed speakers hidden amongst the trees. Trains do not run on this train line on weekends so there is no visual or auditory distractions and no vibrations even though the restaurant is trackside. (Sometimes the indoor dining areas can be overly air conditioned so if weather doesn't permit outdoor dining, bring a sweater.)
On this occasion (and this is the only ding in what would otherwise have been an outstanding dining experience), after being seated and having our water glasses filled, it took a bit of time after closing our menus for wait staff to take our orders; we had to call over wait staff to place our orders. Please note that the one time before when we dined at The Station, wait staff promptly took our orders when we closed our menus.
House salads came with some entrees and were well portioned and tasty. The shrimp cocktail was perfectly chilled and consisted of 5 large shrimp. No cocktail sauce was served but these shrimp did not require any. The crab appetizer was delicious and the shrimp ajillo had a kick courtesy of It's Cajun-style preparation.
The blackened ahi tuna was prepared quite well and while the blackening could have been crisper, the fish was cooked to perfection. The St. Peter's fish Marechiara was excellent, as were the steak and the seafood Fra Diablo.
We shared 2 desserts between 4 people and that was sufficient as portions were ample. The apple pie a la mode was good but Grandma's chocolate cake was rich and dense and absolutely delicious.
We will definitely return to The Station at Montvale.
The food was good and the service was excellent. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The room feels a bit like a dungeon. I generally love repurposed venues but walking down into the main dining room felt a little claustrophobic. The rock walls and high windows added to The unease. Although the dining was enjoyable I couldn't wait to get out of the cell. Thank the warden for me when you see him.
Had an excellent lunch on the patio with a business colleague. Would highly recommend the fish tacos (they come "dis-assembled" so you can build them to suit your preference for the proportion of the various ingredients). Fast, discreet service. Really enjoyable location (as the name suggests, the restaurant occupies the Mountain Lakes train station building).
I have been to The Station many many times and keep going back because the food is consistently very good. I have never had a bad meal. I used to work in Parsippany so the location was very convenient. Now that I don't work in the area, I will continue to go to The Station since I like it so much. This time I split a salad special of strawberries, blueberry goat cheese and lettuce with my friend. Then the stuffed pork chop for me and the pepper steak for my friend. Everything was excellent and cooked perfectly.
The food was very good. I had a steak that was delicious. My wife had a shrimp and paste which she had to bring home . Service was a little slow for a Thursday night. We sit outside because it gets loud in side. It was nice weather for June. The gift
card was over a year old , but they took it. Overall great food.
The Station never disappoints! I forced myself to try something different as I almost always get the Gorgonzola filet. The balsamic chicken was more low cal but just as delicious. The owner/host Carlos is very attentive, making sure all customers have what they need.
