The Station at Mountain Lakes Ratings and Reviews
It's a very intimate space with high ceilings, not cramped. A great use of an old commuter station keeping many of the original details. We went in December just after a snow so everything was beautiful inside and out. The food and the service was excellent . Not just expensive good but excellent. The portions were good and everything was cooked perfectly.
It's a great place for that special night but it looked like there were menu options to make it there on a regular basis.
A true gem hidden in the hills of Mountain Lakes. Nice and cozy during the winter and a beautiful outdoor patio in the warmer weather. Great service, pay very close attention to detail from start to finish. The maitre'd genuinely cares about your dining experience and knows his place inside out. Food is fantastic, firecracker Calamari, great chops, seafood, chicken dishes, jambalaya, and shrimp dishes are awesome! Definitely a special place always worth the visit.
This was our first time at the restaurant. We live locally and always thought about trying it. The food and service was very good. The only criticism I would have is the bar is so small. We like to have a drink before dinner which was not possible. In addition the main dining room while cozy and comfortable was too brightly lit. This is an easy fix. Overall a nice night and would try again. The manager ran a tight ship which was a big plus.
This was our second time dining at The Station. I have nothing to complain about. It's just not my favorite restaurant. I can clearly see it's appeal as a local favorite. If I lived around the corner, I'd pop in for a nice dinner. However, I live quite a distance away and it's just not worth the drive. The food is fine. It's just not outstanding. We had the wedge salad & the buffalo mozzarella w/ roasted peppers to start. The dressing tasted like bottled and the peppers tasted like they were out of a jar. For dinner, we had short ribs (not fork-tender) and mushroom & shrimp ravioli. The shrimp were overcooked (not inedible, but overcooked nonetheless) and just placed on top of the mushroom ravioli. They seemed like an afterthought. Just mushroom ravioli frankly would have been better, in my opinion. Service was friendly and attentive despite the dining room being full.
The meal was for a team dinner for work (party of six). The server was excellent, mixing well with all guests including a blind person and two people from Europe. The starters were great as were all of the entrees. All guests indicated the Station was an outstanding choice. We would go back there any time.
The service here was excellent! The food was even better. We were a party of 9 and everyone's meal was delicious! I had marinated hanger steak with fresh spinach & scalloped potatoes. It was outstanding! Wine selection was also wonderful. We will definitely go back here!
We took our mom here for dinner on Saturday night and it was very nice. The restaurant a beautiful building that once was a train station. The food was very good, we had the duck and the hanger steak and all cooked perfectly. Great place to go. My husband and I will return.
Wonderful medium sized restaurant with outdoor seating. The food is excellent and tasty. Although not a particularly unique cuisine, the steaks are tender and crusted just right, Pasta dishes are very good, without being overwhelming, too spicy or swimming in gravy. The two fish dishes were savored by my guests. Although the creamed spinach was a hit to my friends, I thought it was soupy if bland but I don't eat it too often. Mixed drinks are excellent as are the choices of dinner wines. My friends and I really enjoyed a causal Saturday evening meal in this well run comfortable restaurant. Service is appropriately attentive never too much or too little, always pleasant
I've eaten at The Station a number of times in the past 6 months, and have never been disappointed. I usually order a fish entrée, which is always fresh and flavorful. The biscotti that come with an espresso or cappuccino at the end of the meal are excellent. It's a very nice choice for eating outside on the patio, which is far enough off the street and surrounded by trees and shrubbery to feel isolated from traffic. Since it is near the train station, you do hear the train go by periodically, but this was not a problem for us.
The place was kind of hard to get to, but when you get there you'll feel the quaintness of the place. Food presentation was okay but we all found that everything was on the salty side. We were able to eat only half of our food. I made a comment to the waiter hoping that he will relay it to the chef.
I gave it 4 stars for quaintness.
I discovered this restaurant after a friend told me it wasn't too great. That was after I realized she was just being extremely frugal. I don't find the prices any more than any other great restaurant. The Station is now my favorite restaurant, especially if you like to sit outdoors and enjoy fine dining, which is my favorite past time in the summer. Carlos, one of the owners, is extremely attentive to detail and keeps everything going smoothly. The various dishes including salads, appetizers, entrees and even iced tea are watched over carefully. The food is delicious and the menu is varied. I love beef, and the steaks are juicy and cooked exactly as you like them. My husband loves the seafood and is very happy with their selection. Just don't tell too many friends about this place, because I'd hate to have a problem getting a reservation. Enjoy!!
Went to The Station for a friends birthday. Nice location and nostalgic stone building adjacent to a rail line! Seating is on at least 2 levels so be aware if trouble with stairs. Food was very good - wished I could have tried more dishes so will have to come back. Wine list isn't overly long but decent selections. Overall a nice meal in a eclectic location with good friends- looking forward to trying it again!
Happened upon this place because I was driving from out west when I visited a friend in PA. Never ate dinner in this area and decided to give this place a shot. I'm really happy I did.
The ambiance of the whole place is great. I love the old rustic look of the stone and antiquity of the interior decor. The place does a great job of looking fancy, yet old world.
Parking is great and abundant. Right behind the restaurant is a very large lot which can accommodate many cars.
We ate around 9pm, which is usually a little late for most places out there, but that did not take away from our service. Even though we were 1 of only 3 tables in there, our waiter still took care of us very well and did not push the issue with him probably wanting to shut everything down and go home. Well done.
As for the food, it was very good. I had the marinated hanger steak which was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. My wife had the stuffed pork chop which was a little burnt on the top and bottom, but still flavorful and a large portion.
The price was very reasonable. I would highly recommend this place and if I'm ever out there again, I will certainly stop by.
Second time I have eaten here the past couple of months. First time my wife and I ate here and everything was great. Based on that, I came here for a business meal. This time the food was great but the service completely ruined the night. The waiter seemed to be unable to hide his displeasure in serving us. From ignoring us, to being rude when he was forced to serve us, it was a completely unpleasant experience. We actually shifted from discussing business to discussing what we might have done to have warranted the distain from the waiter. We still tipped well since the busboys worked their butts off to try to provide good service but it was not deserved on waiters part. Hopefully this was a blip and things will be straightened out.
We had a lovely dinner with our corporate legal team. VIP visiting from Amsterdam thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience and would like to return on his next visit to USA. Thank you to all staff who really made it a wonderful evening. We will return soon.
Thanks and kind regards,
