Fried Clock Shadow Cheese Curds
Bacon Wrapped Scallops
sweet potato puree, petite herb salad, balsamic reduction
poached lobster, tarragon aioli, heirloom tomato, butter toasted brioche roll
Fantastic value for excellent food for brunch.
Excellent food! Highly recommend the crispy skin chicken. Wonderful server!
Looking for a Farm to Table restaurant...fantastic prime rib breakfast tacos and a great bold coffee. Lovely view and a beautiful space!
Good food and great atmosphere!
Was the worst meal we had ever had there...meal came with only three scallops, the Moscow mule that I had to drink was not correctly made, the asparagus was soggy and the portion sizes for the asparagus and scallops were very minimal (3 scallops and 8 asparagus) - definitely was not worth the $150 spent.
We came in from Chicago for a lovely birthday lunch! The weather was warm and sunny for the end of February. Lake Mendoza had a lot of activity on it which was fun to watch and add to the conversation. Everyone enjoyed the food and we all shared bites of the array food options. All were very yummy. The desserts were beautiful in presentation as well as taste. All of us will return and recommend this amazing restaurant & hotel!
My satisfaction with restaurants weighs most heavily upon the service. This is where the Statehouse shines in comparison to other Madison restaurants. In particular, Paige is an outstanding server. Additionally, it is one of the few restaurants with a view over one on Madison’s lakes, and it is not an overly loud restaurant. The food is good, and overall we have a good experience every time we go to the Statehouse. Other high-end Madison restaurants would do well to follow this formula of well-trained service and classic cuisine.
The view of the lake is nice, food was good, especially the cheese curds.
Thank you for making our day special . We loved the food and service .
We experienced a delightfully polite and delicious dining experience at the Statehouse for our anniversary luncheon. The atmosphere and service matched and exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return in the future for memorable events,
Nice place with a great view. The only downside was getting the wrong bloody mary, so it was a pretty good experience. Chorizo Benedict was great, as was the brisket hash.
Elegant and quiet. Food quite good, they really charge a premium for a martini - $18. Plates are an odd shape which results on flatware easily falling off
All the dishes we ordered had well developed flavors profiles. Our taste buds were happy happy! The service was attentive, professional and friendly.
As a long time fan of the Edgewater hotel and resort this was my first opportunity to try the Statehouse. The restaurant has an incredible view year round and is in a wonderful setting right along the lake. The dining room is appointed extremely well as with all top level restaurants. Regrettably the overall experience did not match the setting. The restaurant presents very well as a four or five star restaurant however, the service although energetic lacked refinement and systematic delivery of items such as drinks, bread service and dessert were slow and for certain items only came after prompting for them. The food was well prepared and presentation was above the typical hotel restaurants. One note for those who have a level of expectations at this price point, and it may just be something that set wrong with me personally, servers in jeans are not really in line with the image and setting that such a wonderful hotel projects.
As usual, we were greeted warmly and treated like royalty! The food was artfully presented and delicious, and our server was attentive and pleasantly engaging. We really enjoyed our visit!
Raven did an excellent job & the food was great. Wonderful birthday experience.
We keep coming back to the Statehouse because of the great experience! Beautiful setup, gorgeous view, superb service, quality food, extremely enjoyable!
The view was lovely, it was quiet and restful and the staff was very nice. My lobster roll was delicious, but when I got the bill for the wine I was appalled at the $20 price tag on a small glass of Cabernet. The waitress should have mentioned the prices when I asked. I can understand 10-12, but not twenty! Other than that we enjoyed our lunch there.
menu is not distinguished. Service wqs fine, view was great, but menu was not imaginative.
Fixed NYE dinner was great, multiple actually good options to choose from. Was immediately greeted by waitress with glasses of champagne, very attentive and deliberate service.
For a restaurant with the setting, ambience, and pricing of this restaurant, The Statehouse was surprisingly a disappointment. We both had the leg of lamb special, which was tasty but tough and overcooked, somewhat more sinewy than our usual expectation. Accompanying vegetable was fine. Ordered a glass of house wine, which seemed overpriced, especially when the glass was only one-third full. Dessert was rich to the taste, and quite expensive, but accompanying table with the same dessert had a very large scoop of ice cream and ours had a very small portion - actually asked for additional ice cream, which was provided. Perhaps food and service are better when it is not a “holiday menu” day. Average experience.
We enjoyed a lovely breakfast looking over the water on Christmas morning! Food was great and the service was exceptional!
I was thrilled to take my 93 year old mother to the Edgewater for Xmas eve. She has fond memories of spending many hours there during her college years. The holiday decorations were beautiful as we pulled up to the entrance. Our table was ready within 5 minutes and in a fairly quiet location, which I had requested. From there things deteriorated quickly. Nobody came to fill water glasses or take a drink order for much too long. Our salads arrived before the drinks. Our waiter was young and gave us poor advice on what to order as far as serving sizes. The squash salad was limp and lacking flavor and the leg of lamb was extremely disappointing. My mother’s butternut pasta dish was good. Dessert is hard to screw up and again our waiter gave us poor advice on the very frozen hazelnut chocolate item. We tried to cut it with a knife but no luck. We waived the waiter down and he explained that’s how it is served. We asked for it to be thawed out so we could split it. It certainly wasn’t worth the effort. To spend that amount of money and receive a very disappointing outcome, we will not be returning to the Statehouse.
A wonderful evening at The Statehouse Christmas Eve. Hadn't been there since the big remodel but really liked it. Felt very comfortable yet elegant. Fantastic staff and service - again very comfortable, welcoming, yet professional. The food and drinks were excellent! A little more clarity on what is included and not. Although our companions ordered a vegetable to share, I would have chosen an additional salad for my own taste. Also, the Black Forest cake was nothing like what was expected; it was SO much better!!!! Play it up!
We dined on Christmas Eve. The menu choices were very appropriate for a holiday meal. The food was delicious and the waitstaff were excellent. We had a two year old diner with us and they were very helpful. It was a very pleasant dinner and the view was fantastic.
The view is outstanding. However, the noise level in the dinning room even though it was not very crowed, was very loud. It was hard to talk to the person next to you or the person across the table.
We were shocked by the poor service at a restaurant located in an extremely high level hotel. The service person kept disappearing, even though they were not at all busy. We had to beg for coffee refills. Coffee refills come at a much better pace at a Denny's and the Statehouse is supposed to be the goods. I would rate it as a D----- diner
While we usually have great success here, this was a terrible experience. We had poor service combined with cold food and wrong orders...
Dinner was very tasty, everything else was average.
Obviously the view is fantastic overlooking Lake Mendota. The Statehouse Restaurant is a beautiful room. The service was very good, however the food was not good. Flatbread was nice looking but cold! The cheeseburger was nicely plated but cold and overcooked. Overall we were very disappointed and won’t go back except perhaps to the Boathouse Restaurant.
Very quite night but great food and good service.
My husband and I had a wonderful brunch date today. Alissa our server was wonderful and attentive from the very start. Food was great, view was spectacular, and we will surely return. Cori and Rob
I was so looking forward to a holiday dinner at the Stateroom. Having been there twice before and having had wonderful experiences I was sure it would be great. What a disappointment! The food was at best mediocre. The service was poor. White linen topped tables were gone. The excellent service a thing of the past. Worst of all it was a very expensive dinner that none of us enjoyed.
The food was excellent and the Edgewater is truly a stunning location. We will definitely be back. Thank you!
We could not have enjoyed our visit more. The staff was professional and attentive, and the food was exquisite! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a luxurious dining experience.
Thanksgiving dinner out is a stressful time for restaurants, but things could have been much better. The $15 squash soup was just a small cup, not a bowl and had a grainy texture. It would have been better with creme fraiche and pepitas. The apple and blue cheese salad ($14) had no apples at all and minuscule amounts of cheese. When we pointed this out the manager did bring a small dish with julienne apples and a bit more cheese. The red wine we ordered was opened just before the main course was presented allowing no time for breathing. The salmon was only moderately warm, but the turkey was better. However, turkey was advertised to come with corn and leeks but instead and root vegetables, baby carrots and parsnips. The semi-freddo dessert was tutti freddo and needed an ice pick (aka fork) to chip off pieces.
It truly saddens me to write such a poor review for a restaurant we have so loved in past years. We actually had our son's pre wedding dinner here. We were looking so forward to a wonderful Thanksgiving day meal with our family and had reservations at the earliest time period to book. We were there 1/2 hour early to look around hotel and checked in as soon as hostess appeared. We were third to be seated. We ordered drinks and then our meal when waiter appeared with drinks. After over an hour waiting for our food we noticed others seated well after us had their meals and those who checked in with us were finishing and heading to dessert. Flagging down our waiter, he didn't seem overly concerned but said he check. He apologized and said our ticket must have gotten stuck behind another. When our meals came out shortly afterwards, they were cold - not hot, nor even lukewarm. Manger also didn't seem too concerned or understand situation. He took, heated up and brought back same meal just as cold. Then waiter appeared and said there was a problem with heating element (guessing microwave) and manager came back and just basically stood there with a "well what should we do now expression". Unfortunately, we just sent back, paid our bill and left. Had looked forward to this experience for weeks and was So disappointed. I hope this restaurant can once again become a wondering experience for diners. Certainly a great location.
Thanksgiving with our daughter. Our waiter Paige was very attentive and accommodating. The chocolate chip cookie with caramel ice cream was an excellent recommendation for dessert.
Our dining experience was excellent. Food was first class and our server, Lydia was personable and exceptionally responsive to our dining requests. Our table had a terrific view of the outdoor skating rink and Christmas decorations. Will definitely return for another visit.
Food took a while to get, but they were great about it! Very kind and comped drinks. It was really good service
