The service was good. Atmosphere was classy and high end. Steak was dry and tough. Love the location.
The elegant and delicious food, the gracious, friendly service and the sunset view by a window over the lake made this 91st Birthday dinner perfect!!!! Thanks. We all had the walleye with spinach and capers, and an appetizer of smoked trout and crackers and rich Babcock vanilla ice cream for dessert - and Prosecco!
People recommended that this was a fabulous brunch, and we found it somewhat disappointing from the service to the food. The server was inattentive and we had to flag other people working to get a coffee refill, and the server forgot various items. The omlets were overcooked dry and terrible.
No service. Had to leave after going to bar to get outlrsrlced a
We are 2 couples meeting up in Madison for a long weekend. Statehouse was highly recommended by friends. Our meals were excellent. Service started off OK, but slowly waned, due to our server Taylor having too many tables to serve. She was very professional and upbeat throughout, which is a testament to her work ethic. We waited a LONG time, probably 20 minutes or more, after our main course plates were cleared by a bus person, to see Taylor again. Meanwhile, food runners, bus people and others were hanging out - perhaps their talents could have filled in for Taylor? We finally received the dessert menus but then waited another LONG time, maybe 10-15 minutes, to give our dessert order. Coffee was brought in the meantime which helped keep momentum going. Desserts were excellent. It's too bad the manager isn't doing a better job of helping out the servers and using other assets where needed. We received our bill 2.5 hours after being seated - much too long for a simple dinner with one cocktail, no wine to open or extensive courses.
They forgot to put our order in, which delayed our food. However, they more than made up for it with compensating a drink and dessert.
Beautiful view overlooking Lake Mendota. Food was well prepared, but my entree was shockingly over priced for what I got. For $27, I got 3 small half fillets of lake perch (probably about 2-3 oz. in total weight) on a small bed of sautéed kale with 3 small roasted beets and some beet puree. This was not a “small plate” or tapas type menu.
Great food, unless you are a vegetarian. Service and ambiance were excellent and at 6:00 PM on a Saturday the restaurant was quiet.
We made a 630pm reservation for our anniversary on 7/5. The restaurant was not busy, but our service was miserable. It took 10 minutes for the server to even approach us, starting with "did you want anything other than water?". After another long wait, we ordered a $120 bottle of wine and an appetizer. The appetizer arrived and she checked on us and got upset that we said we were still waiting for our bottle of wine, which took almost 15 minutes to arrive. It was apparent we were an inconvenience to her, so we ended up ordering smaller plates as the experience was lack luster and we wanted to move on with our evening. As we were leaving, she wished us a happy anniversary, which surprised me that she had seen it was a special night out and decided to neglect one of her three tables of less than 4 people each. Both my husband and I have been in the food service industry and are very forgiving of poor service, but there was no justification for the disregard this server showed. Food and wine were good, but the service will keep us from ever coming back.
Portions on the small side
Wine is being poured too much at a time
Great Food, Great service a little pricey for me. I would go back again if someone else pays.
We picked this restaurant because of its lakeside location and opportunity to eat outdoors overlooking the lake. When we made the reservation, the system asked if we wanted a reservation for indoor seating or outdoor seating and we chose the later. I called the morning of the reservation to confirm that outdoor seating would be available and was reassured it would be. We arrived to be seated indoors, as apparently a bridal party was happening on the patio (and the second patio was closed?). This was disappointing, as outdoor dining was the reason we came to The Statehouse. The food was delicious and the service good once we got over our disappointment of being seated inside despite our efforts to be outdoors...
Beautiful view. Poor service. Average food.Reservation in place with no service items in place
Friendly service, great view, and tasty food. Was surprised it wasn't busier. Will definitely be back.
The food was too salty and mediocre. The music chosen by the manager ruined the meal. It was perfect for a club fit for 14 year olds, not for an upscale hotel dining room. Totally inappropriate!
Perfectly cooked scallops, excellent wine list, service that's friendly, professional, and personable, lovely atmosphere blending the classic and contemporary.
Some items on the menu weren’t available. Salmon was over cooked. Waitress wasn’t very friendly. I could tell others working there where, but ours wasn’t. View was great!!! And they let us have dessert on the terrace. Which was very nice.
Beautiful outdoor di ring, gorgeous sunset!
Ally was a fantastic server, and the lake view was awesome!
Terrible service here. My wife and I were celebrating our 15 year anniversary. We arrived at the restaurant shortly after they opened at 5:30pm and were the 3rd group in the restaurant. Our order was straight off the menu with no changes. Our waiter brought out the wrong meal for my wife and then pulled a disappearing act for the rest of the evening. The manager was the one who brought out the correct meal and had to refill our drink order.
About 15 minutes after finishing our meal the waiter finally showed up again to ask if we wanted dessert. The menu he gave my wife had a dead bug on the back of it. We skipped dessert.
When the bill finally arrived we had been charged for both the incorrect meal and the correct one. Thankfully the manager was nearby and took the incorrect charge off our bill along with my wife's meal. The waiter made a half-hearted apology and blamed someone else for the issues.
With so many great dining options around the Capitol Square and elsewhere in Madison save your money and go to a different restaurant. The nice view of Lake Mendota is not worth the terrible service.
I would recommend the Statehouse to a friend for the view, but not for the food or service. Service was a bit slow and the restaurant wasn't to capacity. They ran out of fish fry. Disappointing.
Best place to have a great meal at a decent price while watching a gorgeous Madison sunset.
First time to review and we enjoyed our evening. Appetizers and the wedge salad were delicious. My guests had the fillet and the chicken which were very good. I ordered a steak med. rare and it arrived closer to well that anything. I was asked by my server if it was ok and I decided to keep it. The floor manager arrived and asked as well and I could not hold back my disappointment on the steak. He let me chew on the first one while I was made another closer to my liking. All in all, very attentive and responsive to the guest. I will return based on my experience.
We enjoyed the wonderful view and even more the dinner and service were EXCELLENT! The pork chop and the steak filet were done to perfection. Our server was delightful and we really appreciated the complimentary WARM and gooey birthday cookie and ice cream dessert.
Unbelievably pleasant experience. We were seated immediately and right next to the windows with a beautiful view of the water below. The staff members were courteous, professional and smiled often. We felt very welcome here. The restaurant was exquisitely clean and I mean sparkling. The food was delicious and had great flavor. I didn't regret eating too much at this lunch. The beer on tap was cold and fresh with just the right amount of foam.
Top notch service and amazing food quality. Really nice for lunch.
The service, food, and atmosphere were excellent!
Dinner reservations at 8:30, so the place was getting quiet, which was perfect for our datenight. Great service and foot. Great lakefront view. Highly suggest. Portions were correct and the skillet cookie for dessert was awesome.
This has been one of our few favorite spots in town, but this past Mother’s Day meal, hopefully not representative, took a turn for the worse. We had a 1:30pm lunch, so the restaurant was half empty but the service was still lacking and the food was just so so...hopefully, they didn’t lose their good chef.
This Mother's Day Buffet was advertised as a gourmet, multiple course offering. We arrived and were not able to be seated immediately, and when we were seated the place was only 1/3 full. We had brought our drinks from the bar and sat a long time before a server helped us. She took our orders for the courses and then we did not see anyone until the second course arrived, a garlic potato soup. It was ok. The server stopped by then and we requested our first course (Pastries and Danishs). She apologized and brought them. They were vending machine level pastries/Danishs. The main came and I can compare it to hospital food. It was cold, the potatoes were instant and overall it was a horrible experience. I ordered wine and it had sediment on the bottom which is easily preventable if you know how to pour wine. The desert was a Twix bar with frosting on it and a very small scoop of chocolate ice cream. To say the least for a $50 per person buffet it was the worst buffet I have ever experienced. Stay away. This speaks to poor management and poor cooking staff.
Saturday brunch. Dry potatoes, weak coffee. Odd smokey bacon. Went to get an omelette, and chef was missing. Nice servers.
Always wonderful. The wait staff is exceptional and Wisconsin nice. The view is special.
Lovely birthday lunch. Appreciated the dessert and presentation.
Wonderful spending Easter brunch with family at The Statehouse!
Much improved from our first visit. Do not like the servers wearing jeans-to informal especially for the image you are trying to promote. I truly want the Edgewater to be successful. The food in the restaurant down by the lake is too expensive. I ordered a crab salad. Needed a microscope to find the crab. Loved that our dog was welcome. Service at the spa was a nightmare. I refuse to give my credit card number when booking on line. Made a reservation on the phone to be told when I arrived I didn’t have an appointment. It took forever for someone to answer the phone in the first place.
We really enjoyed our dinner at the Statehouse. Our waitress, Jodie is excellent, very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about everything, she is always aware of what we need and like. The food is always prepared exactly as we like .
We had not been to the Edgewater since the renovation and were very impressed. The food, service and overall experience was exceptional.
The Steak is a 5 star restaurant...we were greeted by the host wishing us a Happy anniversary and took us to a beautiful table by the water . Our sever Paige was a excellent waitress and catered to us in every way . We are in the business ourselves as my husband is a chef and I am also a server . The food was amazing , but it is a bit pricey, but we understand why . We had lovely evening and want to thank you for making our evening a very special one. Thank you Rodney and Linda Childs Freeport Illinois
Outstanding service received from general manager (accommodating request for window lakeside view) and the waiter with the champagne flutes celebrating retirement event. Two Illinois guests enjoyed The Edgewater and returning for future events. Thanks for the outstanding staff and delicious luncheon menu.
