The Standard Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Even though it's in a mall, and all malls are gross, the restaurant's food was delicious, the staff friendly, and the atmosphere was lively! I think the only thing someone didn't like was the Mahi Mahi. She thought it felt compressed and not flaky and light and fish like. Other than that our appetizers, drinks, and entrees were great!
They did not have my reservation The hostess was very rude and not too concerned that our reservation was not on her computer I showed her my confermatin email but she said we would have to wait 15 minuites since we did not have a reservation Very disappointing The rest of the meal was excellent The server was very good and the food was great
I love the atmosphere in The Standard and the service was excellent as always. The booth was comfortable and cozy. We ordered the Chicken Madeira and the Scallops with Risotto. Both dishes were delicious although we had discussed getting three or four appetizers, instead of entrees, and splitting them which we have done in the past.
I would suggest making a reservation especially on a Friday or Saturday night as they are usually very busy.
We often go to The Standard for special occasions or when looking for someplace to dine with out-of-town guests. On this occasion, we had lunch with relatives who were in town for the day. The food was great and we love the ambiance, however, on this day, a large group was seated within the same large dining room and they were extremely loud. This made it difficult to have conversations. Otherwise, The Standard is always a sure bet for a good meal!
When we arrived, they said they had no reservation from us but would get us right in. I had made my reservation on OpenTable about six hours earlier. They did get us right in within about 10 minutes, which was fine. Though it became apparent that they just overloaded one of the servers in order to get us in- service wasn't bad, but wasn't quite attentive.
My steak was slightly overcooked- not a huge deal. Medium instead of medium rare. My girlfriend's seared Tuna was a little bland, but otherwise acceptable.
First (& probably the last time) at the Standard. We went because we had a gift card. My husband ordered steak & blue cheese sandwich and he hated it. Strange combination. It was basically a blue cheese sandwich with a tony bit of steak. I ordered half sandwich, salad & soup entree. Sandwich & salad were okay but the lobster bisque was extremely thick. It was more like cheese wiz. Server was friendly but never came back to the table after she dropped food off. Overall the experience was just okay. We expected better.
We have not been to The Standard in several months and we noticed a significant drop in the quality of the food. My wife ordered the chicken Marsala pasta dish which was her go to dish at The Standard. The sauce in no way resembled a Marsala sauce. It was thick, greasy and overly seasoned with black pepper. There was no taste of Marsala. The sauce more closely resembled the southern white gravy poured in top of biscuits.
We pointed this out to our server who took it off our bill. I would expect a visit from the manager for this type of issue.
I ordered a chicken and pasta dish which had no flavor and the chicken had the taste and texture of frozen, not fresh chicken.
Overall it was disappointing.
The Standard is a great place, centrally located, with moderately priced dinners.
We enjoy meeting up with cousins who visit the area. It is always easy to find. It's also a super place for lunch and we are never disappointed. Your staff is very accommodating.
We recently stopped in to try "the Standard Restaurant" in the Crossgates Mall Albany, NY for a light dinner after a 5 hr car trip across state. It was really crowded, noisy and not as relaxing as we had hoped , but it was really close to the Residence Inn we were staying at and we were hungry! Given the 6:00 crowd on a Saturday PM, the food was just fine, all though delivery was slow for our main course. We had a Ruben sandwich and an arugula sea food salad ...both were tasty and were satisfying. There even was a bit of salad left over which we ate the next day (with some cheese we brought) for an on the road lunch! The place has interesting decor with an old Hollywood lounge vibe, photos of former stars and a cosy booth area as well as a bar. It's family friendly, college couples, and smaller groups were easily accommodated. Do make reservations on busy days! Enjoy!!!!
Had a birthday party there last evening. Normally The Standard is pretty good. Last night was a bad exception. One person ordered the sea bass. It was so overcooked it was more the consistency of mashed potatoes than fish. Another person ordered chicken strips. There were 5 or 6 of them on the plate. Two were so gristly they were inedible. We returned the sea bass and we were not charged for it. But, due to time issues, we did not order a replacement for it. So one person was left to share food with the others of us. We suffered through some of the chicken strips but, again, had time constraints so we did not reorder. I do have to say that the hostess was great as was our waitress. We tipped the waitress on what the check would have been if we had not returned the bass. It was not her fault that the kitchen blew it. We will have to seriously consider whether or not we will return to The Standard - as it seems that their standards are slipping. Kind of ruined the party last night.
Have always liked The Standard but they seem to be struggling, especially with larger tables. This is the 3rd time we have had a table of 7-8 people and they have had issues every time. This time when we sat down, half the table did not have knives or forks (and the other half only had forks). Waiter greeted us after about 10 minutes, did not take drink order but said he would be back with bread and water... few minutes later, returns with said bread and water (good) leaves again before drinks ordered... and we only had a few plates for the bread and again no knives for the butter.... we finally got a drink order in and requested additional utensils and plates, which the waiter did bring back (seemed like he had no back-up help). Ordered meals and food did come out pretty timely and was hit or miss at the table (my filet was just fine)... we were all done a good 15 minutes before any offer of coffee or dessert. A few of us wanted dessert, so waiter said he'd be right back with dessert menus...that took another 5 minutes. and then another 10 before he returned for the order. and another 10 for the dessert to come out, so we are talking nearly an hour between end of meal and dessert. That is not a profitable way to turn out tables..... Maybe they just can't handle larger tables?
Initia initially when we got there we were told that our online reservation was not valid. It was Mother's Day and we are a party of eight and we had driven an hour to meet there. I frankly said to the hostess it was not my problem but their problem and that she should ask the manager for advice. Fortunately we were quickly sat down, I was worried though that we would be rushed and treated poorly. However the service was excellent we were not rushed even though the restaurant continue to fill. Once we finish our meal we elected not to have dessert as they had accommodated us. Overall I must say it was a very pleasant experience and we will go back again.
