The Standard Grill Ratings and Reviews
We stopped in after walking the highlife. We arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation and they seated us in an area of our choice immediately. The menu was a very nice mix of breakfast and lunch selections. My friend ordered a chicken salad which came with a separate fresh greens salad and freshly cooked and sliced chicken. She told me that the latte she had after the meal was the best she had ever tasted. I ordered the huevos ranchero which was very well done with fresh taco chips, black beans and eggs over easy. The coffee was offered in a pot so you didn't have to look frequently for the waitress. We were seated in the cozier inside portion of the restaurant but they offered a more casual Art Deco style section and outdoor seating as well. The service was very good for a very busy Sunday.
We stopped by at lunchtime on a Sunday. It's very popular, so reservations are recommended. We were unable to eat in the dining room due to customers who wanted to linger, but the front room was fine. Steak salad was delicious, and my husband enjoyed the Seven Grain Waffle.
Everything we had was delicious. Our server was professional and helpful, and we took his recommendations and were very happy with them. We ordered almost all of the side dishes, because we couldn't narrow it down, and they were all delicious. We felt that our martinis could have been larger for the price, but they were delicious as well.
The salmon was great as were the cocktails. The service was not so great. Slow, uninformed, no check ins to see how our meal was, never brought the blanket promised.
We were looking forward to the evening yet we're disappointed in the experience. Need to take a closer look at their service.
Very tasty smoked ribs special, uniquely prepared Brussels sprouts, delicious cole slaw, interesting side of charred eggplant and roasted carrots. The service was spotty, but it could be because our reservation was at 6 pm on a Sunday night, and we may have been between shifts. When we finally got our real server, she was quite pleasant and helpful.
One of the well known mainstays of the meatpacking district, I had heard many good things about this restaurant. Went there recently with some out of town guests and had an enjoyable dinner and we were not rushed for two hours. Nice selection of fresh east and west coast oysters but the other menu items were rather unimaginative and limited- very few fish dishes and not many steaks. Not much in the way of presentation and the portions were average...At 5pm the place was very quiet but by the time we left at 7, there was quite a racket. Desserts were good and prices were moderate. Its a good place for people watching and to be seen...but one visit was sufficient.
First time at the Standard, our party of four was late, but we got seated anyways; our waitress Monique was charming and very friendly, made some good recommendations. The food was delicious, we all had meat; bison, steaks & lamb, highly recommend it! We will be back!
Delicious! Great waiter, great food selection, yummy drinks. There are many areas to sit including outside, noisy happening bright area just inside and then more lounge cozy dinner area. We are in the cozy area as it was cold outside and the happening area is very noisy. Great place.
We always enjoy brunch at the Standard in Meatpacking. On this particular occasion our daughter arrived on time, but my husband and I were almost a half hour late, and the staff was gracious and flexible about holding our reservation and seated us very expeditiously. We had great servers and the brunch, as always, was delicious. My daughter and I ordered the Avocado Toast with scrambled eggs (an adjustment from the poached on the menu) and it was perfect! Melt in our mouth yummy! My husband, who had the soft scrambled eggs with potatoes and a side of bacon, polished it off in no time . . . proof positive he enjoyed his meal. We shared an order of French fries, so warm and crispy we had to order another round. All in all a great meal!
My family came here for a going away dinner as I was heading back to the West Coast after a week-long visit. We've been coming to this restaurant for years, so were excited to snag a reservation for the four of us on such short notice. What surprised us was the lack of attentiveness of the wait staff (including busboys). We had to ask for bread, radishes and olives 3 separate times before actually getting it at our table. And it was impossible to track down our waiter to order our meal. The service has definitely gone down from where it was a few years back. However, the food was delicious as always!
Service Appalling - the waiter was very rude to us all meal, making sly comments and it really did ruin the experience (we also waited over an hour for our food). This was a shame as the steak was very good, but our appetite was ruined after over an hour and rude service.
I started with a gin tonic at the bar, while I waited for an outside table to be ready. The drink was restaurant-priced but teenager club-made. It had no class, nothing special. It was gin mixed with tonic and a slice of lemon, no preparation whatsoever. Poor.
The service was standard, if I may.
The food was good, not great or memorable.
The place is nice, energetic and full, which I love.
The restaurant is warm and friendly and makes you feel good. The staff is even friendlier and warm as well, and makes you feel at home.
Eclectic menu offering excellent food for those who want excellent food.
Finally, for the location, very reasonable when the bill arrives.
I would recommend it for any occasion.
