The Standard at the Smith House

A true gem in the heart of the city! We wanted somewhere a bit different with a cool vibe for an anniversary dinner. The structure has amazing character and “feel” being a home built in the 1840s. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the valet attendant who welcomed us as though we were old patrons of the private club for years. We were escorted inside and handed off to Billy, the M’aitre D, who was just as warm, boisterous, and friendly. You could tell they truly enjoyed sharing this space with first time diners and regulars.
The food was excellent, steaks perfectly prepared as expected, and dessert ginormous! Unlike other modern steakhouses, the ambiance here is relaxed and quiet, allowing conversation without the need to push from the diaphragm to overtake the din so common in larger, more open spaces. Wait staff was friendly and attentive without ever being intrusive. Not sure when we will get back to Nashville, but we’ll certainly visit The Standard when we do!
Excellent service from the valet to the waiter. Delicious food beautiful setting.
The best customer service I’ve ever experienced in Nashville.
Amazing service. Great venue. Perfect for a special date night or special event.
We were greeted at the entrance by our first names and given a brief history before being led into the bar area where Billy was a wealth of knowledge and interesting facts, then on to dinner where our steaks could have been cut with a butter knife they were so tender. We probably should have passed on the offer of dessert as we were already full but the Jack Daniels Cheesecake was fabulous. We went on to a private party where we told everyone that they should experience The Standard at the Smith House while they were in Nashville.
Well worth the trip! Great food and service. Unique history as well.
Yes, because of it’s classy uniqueness and the Jack Daniels Cheesecake, but not for the main course experience-the Roasted Chicken meal could use more flavor. Also, my grandmother did not enjoy her 8 oz prime due to the lack of flavor. Also, the service was great.
Fantastic place to go loved everything about it. Will be back for sure
This restaurant was within walking distance from my hotel in Nashville. We greeted in a very friendly manner and shown around a bit. The fried green tomatoes with crab meat on top was a special treat. The steak was cooked exactly to my husband's liking. I had the chicken with grits and really enjoyed the blackberry compote with it. We wanted to stay and have dessert but had tickets to the Opry so we did not. Would go again if ever back in Nashville!
The building itself is gorgeous and worth seeing but the food was quite average and the servers did not seem to be interested. It also serves as a private club so they may be more interested in better service if you are from Nashville. I would not go back. Too many other good choices in town
Amazing food and ambiance. Staff was great, friendly and very welcoming.
The bar is beautiful and the bartenders personable & attentive. Our dinner waiter was great, service excellent.
Food- we had the ribeye it wasn’t good at all, no flavor and a lot of fat. Another in our group had the lamp chops which were really good, cooked well, tender.
Desert we had the cookie with ice cream- yum and the cheesecake both were YUMMY! To sum it all up we would go back for drinks & desert only. A little bit of a disappointment because it really is a beautiful house.
The Standard is our go to if we want fantastic food. We’ve tried nice restaurants all over Nashville and nobody holds a candle to how exceptionally and consistently good The Standard’s food is from top to bottom.
Amazing historic townhouse with excellent service, cocktails, and food. A must when traveling to Nashville
We have dined here a few times and the food and service has been excellent. During our last dining experience our appetizers were good but not outstanding. My chicken entree was good but unfortunately my wife’s filet was under undercooked (she ordered medium rare so to under cook is unusual) and the steak was very tough. Hopefully an aberration. The Jack Daniels cheesecake was the highpoint of the meal and was fantastic. Service was very good.
Everything was great until the linguine was served with an egg on top, which wasn’t disclosed on the menu.it made the dish ineatible. We were comped 50% and a free desert, otherwise the place was great.
The Standard at the Smith House never disappoints. The food and atmosphere are always amazing. Do yourself a favor and schedule a tour as well. This house has some of the most amazing treasures hidden in Nashville.
My brother and I were in Nashville for a “bucket list” event, the 2019 NFL Draft to see some of our National Championship Clemson Tigers become members of the NFL. Our first meal at these events is always at an upper end and highly rated on TripAdvisor steakhouse.
The food, service and experience was all 5 star EXCEPT for the cigar smells when we walked in and while we were in the bar. Fortunately the cigar smell was not prevalent in the dining area. The Standard has a private cigar room in the upper level, and they are not able to keep the smell contained just to this room.
Everything was excellent!!!!!
The crab bisque was delicious but barely warm. The "8"oz fillet was maybe 6oz and was supposed to be "medium." It came out seared and otherwise raw. We sent it back and it came back "rare" andthegreenbeans were cold. We left. The meal was a disaster. The staff was very friendly, but the kitchen was a train wreck. We should not have been charged for the meal, but they charged us for everything but the inedible steak. We ate a light dinner at the Palm, which was delicious.
The place is gorgeous. Service was lovely. Appetizers- lobster bisque and fried green tomatoes were tasty. Steaks were disappointing since the cuts and seasoning were OK- not bad but not great
My favorite restaurant in Nashville! Wouldn't think of going anywhere else!
Food was excellent but the service was not up to standards. The waiter greeted us and discussed the specials then walked away without taking our drink order. He also forgot to bring the tea one guest ordered with dessert.
Terrific dining. A must do experience in Nashville ! Food was great and the ambiance was outstanding
Went specifically to experience the house and the restaurant. Pre-meal drink in the bar was fantastic. Incredible personal service. Food was great but not necessarily memorable in a way that would drive me to go back only for the food. The entire package was what made it special. The only real downside is that the venue is used for multiple purposes and there was some type of large group party or meeting on the other side of the door where we were seated. The level of noise was distracting and took away from the experience. Service, from the time we were greeted by name until we completed the meal, was impeccable. Owners are passionate about the space.
Although it's a somewhat strange location (between 2 office buildings) the restaurant is outstanding. The bar alone is worth a visit , but the ambience, service and food are all praise worthy. And nothing is more welcoming than the owner coming over to our table to greet us and ask about our dinner. Five stars all around
The food was phenomenal and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back!
The best example of great food, great service, a great setting and the epitome of southern hospitality!
What an amazing restaurant! The mix of elegant, historic, and eclectic design creates the perfect atmosphere. From the moment you pull up, the service is impeccable with warm greetings from owners and staff. We had drinks in the lounge and sat by a cozy fireplace then moved to a beautiful table for dinner. Many small rooms within the building adds to a private feel. My husband had steak and I the sea bass. Both were to perfection. Would recommend this to all who want an experience that is far removed from the loud hip restaurants !
Great food and service. Plan to make this a stop every time we are in Nashville. Steaks were cooked to perfection.
Loved everything about it, they made you feel welcomed.
Great old place. Very friendly people. Mrs. Smith is very friendly and charming. Lots if pride in the old house, which is beautiful. Southern charm from a bygone era. Have a drink in the bar next to the ld fireplace and then enjoy a great meal.
Great for a birthday! Awesome service and good food. Ambiance was incredible!
It was a wonderful evening for my group. The food was great and atmosphere magical. Best part was a quieter environment, we could actually have a normal conversation.
The Standard at the Smith House was a delightful dining experience. From the time you walk in, you are treated as if you are the most important person in the room. From being shown to the bar area, to the time we received our dinner at our table, everything was top notch. My wife, who was celebrating her birthday, enjoyed every second as well. We are looking forward to returning very soon!
Great service and the food was wonderful! The cookie—— the cookie is scrumptious!!! Oh I want to go back and get another one!!
Went early for a business dinner: Great service and very personable
Exceptional all around! Just a wonderful place with so much history. If you want a great meal in a truly unique place, this is it. Truly awesome. So much pride in their establishment as there should be.
This was our second visit to The Standard at the Smith House and we loved it just as much as the first time. The ambiance is spectacular, very romantic and the food was delicious. We look forward to visiting again, soon!
