Spectacular venue for a special occasion with a cozy, subdued vibe. Owner could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. It was absolutely the best filet I have ever eaten.
I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a first class meal in an elegant setting with attentive but unpretentious service.
The Standard has so much character. My wife and I were celebrating my birthday. The service was Top Notch the food was Fabulous. If we are ever in Nashville again this establishment will be on the Top of the list of places to return to.
We had a wonderful evening, the food is outstanding!
Always a memorable experience here and a great meal.
This is one of the coolest places I have ever been. The food was perfect, the ambiance was amazing, the service was impeccable, and the history of this place is incredibly intriguing!
Definitely would recommend if you are in town.
Very nice! Loved the food. The bartender seemed a little put off at first because people came into the bar from a private event. She was a little less than cordial.
The atmosphere , service and food is a fantastic experience. I'm definitely going to be back. The bar is also really nice, all in all a perfect place to have a date.
So, as someone who travels for business every week and eats dinner in restaurants at least 200 times a year, I have a lot off perspective on eating out. I think there were three primary problems with our meal tonight. First, everything was served luke warm - my steak, the corn, the mashed potatoes. Second, my steak was cooked medium rare just as I requested, but so was my wife’s, and she requested medium. We had to send it back twice and it still never quite got there (good for me as I got to steal some of that for myself). I recognize there is a hesitation to overcook, but getting a steaks temperature right is a prerequisite for a steakhouse. Finally, Billy who was so gracious in welcoming us to the restaurant never came over to check on us, and I think the poor server was a bit embarrassed to give us the proper attention. The restaurant did comp us desert, but we would rather have had a great meal. On the bright side, the venue was charming and the team was very welcoming and friendly.
The service at this restaurant was crazy good as was the food!!!! Loved it!!!
The Standard was recommend for a fine dining experience...it was all that and more!
Valentines weekend in Nashville. Visiting from NY
Fish came out a little less than room temperature, but I was compensated with dessert and had the fish heated. The steak was excellent. Valet parking is nice, staff are friendly, the hostess makes you feel at home. Highly recommend.
The ambiance is outstanding, and the staff is great. The food was good, but not great. If the food had been as great as the ambiance and service it would have been outstanding.
Willing to give it another shot the next time we are in town.
The food could have been better especially since you are paying top dollar. The food was just ok. I ordered the ribeye which didn't have much flavor and my asparagus could have been better seasoned. The steak should have been marinated. My girlfriend had the lamb which could have been better seasoned as well.
From tge minute we pulled up to this historic house in downtown Nashville, it was an experience. Upon opening the door, we were greeted with the epitome of Southern hospitality. Our coats were checked, and we were given a brief history and tour of the house. Our server was exceptional, offering detailed explanations of nearly everything on the menu. We felt very cared for by him during our entire visit. The food - I ordered a petite filet and bacon balsamic green beans - was not the most unique, but it was done to perfection. The Jack Daniels cheesecake was over the top fantastic. In a nutshell, the food was very good, but the overall experience was outstanding.
Four for dinner. Place has great character. Top notch service. Steaks were fine but no better than many other high end steak places. Crab Bisque soup was amazing! Surprised at the crowd, not what I expected for Valentines day. We were curious for a tour of the house....no go, we were told they were too busy but many open seats remained. We were there from 6pm till a bit after 8pm and place was almost deserted when we left thought I understand they had multiple rooms that may have held more guests. We were in the main area with a nice table by the window. Interested in checking out the cigar club....also no go (realize it is private but other places I been to, like that, private, have let dinners in for the evening. Told us they use to do that but no longer. Overall nice place and worth checking out but would go elsewhere in Nashville on any subsequent visits.
Had a great time! Nothing to complain about at all. good hospitality .
From reservation to valet to everyone inside...you were addressed by name. The bar with live music was fabulous. The food was delicious. They made you feel like you're family. Loved reading about the mansion's history.
Food was delicious! Valet person greeted us by name (really special touch). My only two issues were the lighting was a bit too bright, not cozy at all & we had to ask the waiter to bring the bread, we had butter & no bread.
Great historic place to have a great meal.
Had a wonderful evening! Service was attentive. The house is beautiful! Steaks were delicious. Loved our filet, cooked just as ordered. Side dishes were good, green beans with bacon and balsamic and Mac and cheese made with 4 different cheeses. Dessert was great, cheesecake with Jack Daniels and caramel sauce with pecans. Will definitely return.
Pace of meal service was off. The calamari was a touch under cooked. Me for some very soft pieces. On top of that it was warm at best. The food was warm at best. The side of potatoes tasted great but was cold. The Filet cut was not trimmed well. A few pieces of silver skin and fat was left on. Made for a very chewy few bites. However, It was cooked to the proper temp. The wine selection was very limited.
Mrs. Smith was the nicest! She made sure we were well taken care of. The valet was giving us history on the house because we had never been before. You can tell everyone really cares about their job and that we were happy. Food was excellent!
The setting is wonderful and the staff professional. We were greeted at the door and then had some of the history of the building shared with us and we were made to feel welcome. We were seated in the "Maker's Mark" room and the music, older jazz and pop, was perfect. The food was described in articulate detail by our waiter and we had a glass of tasty house Chardonnay and ordered. I got the "Standard Filet" and my wife got the "Chilean Sea Bass". My filet was OK but a little tough and sinewy and was on a bed of barely warm mashed potatoes with some overcooked onions on the top. My wife's fish was also barely warm, a little fishy and sitting on a bed of creamed corn that could have easily been just poured from a can. The filet was $49 and the fish was a little less expensive, I think around $42. They knew it was our anniversary so they brought us a complimentary piece of Mousse cake that was good. Our bill was $150 plus tip. We spent the next hour in their bar. It is a really nice and classy dark place with a fireplace and good drinks and the bartender was friendly and talkative. So for us the take-away is this: The Standard is a really nice restaurant with very expensive mediocre food.
This was my first visit to the Standard but it certainly will not be my last. Every detail was handled with perfection. I was greeted at the front door and escorted into the bar for cocktails and then onto dinner. Besides the first class treatment from the staff the food was perfect. The menu had an excellent array of choices but steak is certainly their forte. The wine selection was not enormous but selection was terrific - something for every pallet. The atmosphere was great and noice level perfect for great conversation. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying restaurants all over the world but the Standard is now at the top of the list. The attention to every detail is impressive. And a special thanks to Sharon for making me and my party feel so welcome. I’ll be talking about this meal and restaurant for a long time.
Absolutely Fabulous. The "Standard Filet" melts in your mouth, theSeaBass is scrumptious and the service, beyond reproach. The atmosphere is simply southern and the background music simply romantic. Just go !
The smiths have done a wonderful job with their restaurant. MRS. Smith was a joy to meet.
If you are looking for great food, super friendly owners and an authentic southern mansion experience, this is the place for you!
Super cool house. The people that run it are really sweet and knowledgeable. The food was really good.
My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at The Standard. The history of the home drew me in and it did not disappoint with it's beautiful architecture and ambiance. If I were to be very picky (which I really am not), I would say I have had better service at some other high end establishments, it wasn't bad service here, just not as attentive as I have experienced (used plates being removed in a timely manner, serving from the left, etc...). We both had the Filet, I had the Standard Filet and she had just the Petite Filet and the Standard Mac-n-Cheese. It was all very, very good. Quite a bit of wine choices by the bottle, moderate choices by the glass but they had a good variety of types to choose from. I definitely want to go back and take the husband for a romantic meal next time. I recommend you give them a try!
Great night out. Felt like an old school experience not one of these new modern corporate restaurants. Felt welcome like into someone’s home. Love the larger tables and the spaces in between, didn’t feel like we were on top of other parties and it was quiet, lovely ambiance. We both had the standard filet and enjoyed it. We will be back!
The entire staff made our night celebrating my wife's birthday 10x better than expected; the history and ambiance of The Standard is wonderful and the food was amazing but it was the addition of the VIP treatment from the staff that tied it all together- a must dine experience, especially for celebrating special occasions, for sure!!!
Southern hospitality at its finest! Seated promptly, friendly and knowledgeable servers, and great food! Would definitely recommend to others and will eat again when back in town!
