We all enjoyed the wine flights, a specialty of this restaurant.

We went to celebrate a birthday with 6 people and everyone enjoyed their meals. It's an attractive room and it's easy to have a conversation. The wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. It's not inexpensive, but the portions are good sized.

I have dined here often. On this occasion, I ordered the trout, with the enthusiastic endorsement of the server. The trout must have been not fresh or something. It was extremely fishy and probably an entree I have not liked to this degree in two, years of restaurant dining. My partner’s entree, the skirt teak, was excellent. My advice would be to avoid the trout!

If it was not for the poor service the meal was excellent. Be prepared for an extremely loud level of noise.

There were 10 of us and we all loved our meals. The service was excellent. The server was delightful and very knowledgable. Wish there had been a more moderate priced wine by the glass in addition to the expensive wines by the glass on the menu.

We were a group of 8 adults who were celebrating a special occasion for a close friend. Two couples drove to Evanston from a western suburb; and, they were very impressed with the menu offerings in general and certainly enjoyed the meals which they ordered, in particular. As the person making the reservation, I appreciated the follow-up and confirmation of our date and time for our group. When we arrived, we were seated immediately. Our waiter was very attentive, personable, and answered multiple questions. Stained Glass will be a restaurant that we plan to visit for other similar occasions and will certainly recommend to friends. It was the perfect choice for our gathering.

The service was unacceptable. After being seated by the hostess, we waited for 20 minutes before having to ask the hostess to get our waiter to order drinks. Then, again, we had to do this, to order dinner.

Truly, the food is overly expensive for the ambiance and service provided. And, while the food was good, it was not innovative or particularly tasty relative to what you could get at other quality restaurants. You can do better.

We are frequent visitors to the Stained Glass. Always good service and solid good food. The "Tuna Tuna Tuna" on the menu is a hit. This visit, the steak special and the brussel sprout salad were hits. The best place for high end dining in Evenston.

Wish I could judge this book by the cover. The menu looked fresh, seasonal and well crafted. The drink list was varied with unique flares. The decor and atmosphere were cozy, contemporary enough and sufficiently styled to keep this place falling victim to traditional, stuffy fine-dining traps. But the kitchen execution and service was lacking. Twice the server left plates without explaining what was being presented (charcuterie platter and flight of creme brulee). A steak requested medium rare came out with only wisps of pink. The artichoke appetizer lacked a much-needed sauce (just scant balsamic) and thus flavor. The duck breast was cooked perfectly but its duo of leg confit was oddly dry. We had high expectations based on its ratings and reviews, but on a Saturday night it did not live up to its billing. Dined with my wife and mother-in-law and none of us were impressed. None of us finished our plates as we usually do. In hindsight, the fact that we were seated a half hour ahead of our reservation due to our early arrival was more telling of this restaurant's slipping posture than its ability to accommodate.

We went with another couple Friday night and found the atmosphere quiet enough to hear each other, elegant but not pretentious, service attentive but not overbearing, and the food was fantastic! Two of us had the scallop & pumpkin risotto special that was wonderful!
This place is a gem. We are always in search of a place where we don't have to struggle to hear
each other. The restaurant was full, but still quiet enough for a very pleasant evening.

We booked an early dinner for a birthday and were not disappointed. Service was great, cocktails and wine flights were great. Main courses of lamb, halibut, chicken, and steak were all great and prepared perfectly. Dessert course was great - so save room. Would come back again for another occasion - service was very good.

Stained Glass is a rocking but classy establishment with terrific food, great choices, and wonderful service. Lobster bisque was equal to anyone’s, the Brussels sprout salad crunchy good, my tenderloin and crab duo was very nice, but the winner was my wife’s rack of lamb!! Wines were varied, and prices were moderately steep but worth it. We’ll definitely go back, but remember if it’s too loud...you’re too old!

WE had a very knowledgeable waiter, however, he was too busy with too many tables to serve so he was not attentive. We had to ask for him to be sent over when we needed service. It seemed simply a case of not enough staff, but on a Saturday night prime time - there should have been. Too bad - it is a wonderful restaurant but patrons are paying as much for good service as they are food.

This restaurant used to be a guarantee for great food and nice ambience for a special occasion. After 15 yrs of that being the case, our food was actually not good. Nothing tasted fresh.
The menu and general ambience seemed tired. We will probably not go back.

We arrived on a Friday for a 5:15 PM reservation. While quite early, where in the neighborhood. The hostess seated us in the back, it was empty. Also, handing the wine list to my husband (vs. center of the table). We ordered a bottle of wine, and filled our glasses ourselves every time (less my first). I admit, I was totally in awe each time the server passed with an empty glass at this price point. The food was fine. Finally, had to ask for our check after the server walked past twice with my credit card on the table, and empty glasses. When we left, front room was buzzing with joy. What a depressing dungeon back there.

My husband and I stopped in for dinner. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, and the service is good. I didn't like the crab cake which did not have any chunks of crab. The crab seemed to be shredded which gave the crab cake a mushy consistency. The lobster bisque was just okay.

Went for our anniversary. Our server was excellent - made great recommendations. My wife had the rack of lamb and I had the filet and crab cake. Both very good, although the filet was a touch overcooked for my taste (I ordered medium rare, and it came out closer to medium). Also ordered the baked artichoke appetizer - excellent. The wine flights were very good. Only issue was when we arrived, the host seated us at a table near the door, even though there were other tables available, and said that he could not re-seat us. We asked our server, who was able to re-seat us without problem.

The food was really very mediocre for what it cost. The roll to start was very ho-hum. The crab cake appetizer was very forgettable. I had Alaska halibut nested in way too much zucchini. It was dry and rather tasteless nonetheless. My companion had duck which was better. Very surprisingly mediocre wine list. My Willamette Valley pinot, $20, was just so-so and the selections were few. My companion had the pinot flight and the best of it was the Oregon pinot.
Stained Glass has seen better days and the fact that it was Saturday and over half the restaurant was empty at 8:00 pm says its days are numbered. I would definitely not go again. B-/C+ at best. There are much better values for the money even in Evanston.

Drinks tasted like cleaning solution and the crab cake smelled like garbage and were not thoroughly cooked. When someone from our party asked about a particular item off the menu our server immediately told us NOT to order it and that it was going to be taken off the menu. Waiter also made mention about having "a lot of hispanics working in the kitchen".

In a word, disappointing. While the service was hands-off and the atmosphere relaxed, the food was in many cases poorly prepared. Our brussels sprout salad features sort of chunkily sliced raw brussels sprouts, which are awkward and unpleasant to chew. The filet entree is like nothing I've had: two thinnish slices of fillet each grilled separately, so that, inevitably, the steak is overcooked. Ordered rare, mine was decidedly medium, and one of mine dining partners ordered hers medium and it came out well-done. We opted not to send them back, since the entrees had taken 45 minutes to arrive from the end of our first course. Although we enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere, we found the poorly-prepared food made the prices a real sticking point. At $75+ per person, think of the meal you could have in the city.

The. Stained Glass offers a nice ambiance, excellent food and good service. The noise level was a little high at first due to a large party at an adjacent table but quieted down nicely when they left. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly as was the fish. The menu is a bit limited so I would check it out before going. It is one of the nicest restaurants in Evanston.
