The Springbok Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations and were given a table right at the hostess station and when I asked to move tables the hostess was put out by my request. I also called to let them know we were celebrating my husbands birthday and no one ever acknowledged it. We were rushed and overall did not enjoy the experience. The food was really good but unfortunately it was overshadowed by the poor experience.
Very nice buffalo burger and fries although prefer crispier exterior on fries with dipping sauce. The homemade ham starter was okay, but nothing spectacular. Our server was new but good. The menu is quite small, with a lot of dishes served with an egg (I guess a South African thing). Good beer selection
I'be been here many times before but the servers may have changed since the last time I was here. The girl who greeted us barely made eye contact, didn't ask us if we wanted water while we waited and walked away to talk to a police offer that it seemed she knew for more than 5 minutes. Our server was nice, on the other hand. She was polite, made good conversation and recommended a good dish. I really wish there were more of the dinner items on the lunch menu like the curry or the beef stew and maybe some sides like the brussels sprouts or carrots. Other than our initial greeting from the girl, a great experience of food and drink was had!
Very frustrating experience. I wanted to check this place for their "Super Bowl" brunch but it took them over 1 hour to set up the buffet. Food was below average and only had 5 items on the buffet. Not a good value for what they charge. I wouldn't recommend this place for brunch at all.
First visit was a business lunch on a stormy day. There were only a few tables full; the good thing about that was the lack of noise! The kitchen was out of some ingredients and had rejected others so there were a few items not available. The server was attentive but didn't hover. The food was well-prepared and very tasty. This was a bit more casual than I envisaged but a good downtown spot with tasty lunch options.
It was a night that filled with surprises. We made a reservation, but there was a sponsored party for recently graduated lawyers going on in the main dining area. Upstairs was full, so we were seated at the bar. We were compensated for our inconveniences though, and the steak was great!
The Springbok is a great downtown bar with a few food options that are inspired by South African cooking. I had thought is was a restaurant with a bar, but it is clearly a bar that also sells food. I was a little disappointed that the South African sausage plate that was listed on the web site is no longer available. In addition, the descriptions of the food on the menu are basically "American" descriptions. You have to read the details to learn, for example, that the chicken option uses South African style spices.
Went here since my Husband is South African. Took about 15 minutes to get our drink order out to us. The hostess noticed and remedied the problem shortly thereafter. To start, we ordered the Biltong and Shrimp Ceviche. Biltong was subpar and the Ceviche was quite good, especially if you like Coriander/Cilantro. Entree, my husband ordered the Steak salad and I got the Redfish. There was practically ZERO dressing on the salad and he had to ask 3 people (over a span of 10 minutes) for extra dressing before someone finally brought it. The redfish was cooked perfectly but it was lacking in flavor. Maybe it just needed more chorizo? Quite a disappointed considering the waitress recommended it. Overall the Hostess was keeping an eye on everything and she made sure we had a somewhat decent experience.
I really liked Spring Bok. It was surprising to find it empty on a Friday evening because I have heard such great things about it. Definitely a hidden gem. I had the cailuflower and eggs and I tried my friends sloppy joe. Both were delightful. The drinks are good too.
