The Spiced Pear Ratings and Reviews
All I can say is WOW & THANK YO SO MUCH …
The Spiced Pear was just the most amazing place ever… from Dave our Bartender by day, waiter by night. He was very professional, personable and entertaining My Fiancé had the Salmon & I the Filet of beef, every just melted in your mouth. As for Breakfast, Maureen took very good care of us (best eggs benedict ever), she was hysterical… The food was off the charts DELICIOUS; WE CAN’T WAIT TO GO BACK!
It was ok, I dine out 7 nights a week and most of the time only go 5 star. It is over priced and just ok. The menu could use some help. I had the wine pairing menu, it was just ok. Would go back for another try have been before but not my first pick. To many other great places to pick from.
The menu here is not top rate. Not many selections either. Very pricey considering the inexperienced staff working there. Food was undercooked, cold. Waiters use note pads to take orders! You would never see this at the Oak Room. Breakfast is no better... Frozen potatoes! Yuck... Move on
We had an excellent meal at the Spiced Pear. The food was tasty and presentation was beautiful. Service was top-notch and professional. The location and views are spectacular. I imagine outdoor dining is available in season, however it was too early in season to be available to us.
Wow! What a night. Talk about excellence, this restaurant has it all. Delicious to the max. Attention to details, extraordinary. Pleasant, attentive, never missed a beat. Romantic setting for our 32nd wedding anniversary celebration for 2. Just delightful. Will we return? We have, on several occasions, and will continue to do so, because every wonderful visit is sheer delight. From the tempting menu, to the spectacular wine list, they just do everything right.
Went for Easter brunch with my husband and three sons, we are very particular about our food because my husband is an amazing cook, and we were delighted to say this dining experience exceeded expectations. Very thoughtful and creative menu, everything prepared and presented to perfection with the staff attentive and they really seemed to be enjoying their work which added to the experience. The views are stunning and the restaurant is just beautiful. Between the 5 of us we had most everything on the menu, soups, salads, lamb, pork, eggs benedict, deserts & days later we are still talking about how great everything was. This makes it to our top 3 favorite all time list. We will definitely go back,
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Spiced Pear. We were treated to one of the best meals ever. The only thing better than the view was the amazing food. The lobster and salmon were wonderful choices. Some special touches (arranged centerpiece and Happy Anniversary message on our dessert plate) enhanced an already memorable evening. My wife turned to me as we concluded dinner and simply stated, "I want to see you try and top this next year!"
Great location as it's within a reasonable distance from most B&B's in Newport. I had been waiting to dine here for years and the wait was certainly worth it! Valet parking, coat check and my husband and I were seated on time. Our server was wonderful as he made great recommendations describing each dish with enthusiasm and great detail. We had the sweetbreads (app),lobster and hare (entrees) followed by the chocolate trio and banana flambe (superb!). Each dish was delicious (even the bread!) but I need to point out that the plating was absolutely exquisite - some of the best I've ever seen. A little noiseier than expected but an overall great experience! We're definitely going back for the chef tasting!!!
This is one of the more expensive restaurants in and around Newport, RI. Restaurant Week is a twice a year event and the fixed price menu was $30 per person. The regular menu would have cost two to three times that amount per person. Restaurant Week allows us the try places we would not normally go to.
The meal was a complete disappointment. From the salad, to both main courses, to the desserts, the food can best be described as ordinary. We had expected much more. There are so many other truly fine restaurants in Newport, Mama Luisa's and Bouchard's are two that come to mind. The food at these two is consistently excellent, and the cost is less.
If the purpose of Restaurant Week is to get diners to visit who would not normally eat th
My wife and I went for Newport restaurant week so we could get a taste of what it was like to dine in such a high class establishment where Jackets are prefered. The only table available was a 930 at night reservation which we used open table to get. I don't think you could have gotten a seat without a reservation. We showed up at 9 and valeted my beater truck as a couple in an evening gown and suit were leaving into a bentley. We had to ask the valet if they would let us in after we saw that couple and he assured us we looked dapper enough. Very nice bar to get some really good drinks while waiting and we were seated at 927. EVERYTHING was amazing and well worth it. I would have licked the plate if it wouldn't have gotten us kicked out!
We had a misunderstanding about the size of the party (ultimately 8), which they didn't manage very adeptly, leaving us a table too large to converse over. But the main problem was our waiter who was slow and inattentive. I had 2 1/2 hours to bring a group of high school boys back to school-- and yet I actually had to run them back to school and then come back for the check. On the positive side, the rest of the wait staff looked more experienced and professional, and the restaurant removed the 20% service charge from my bill without my asking them to do it. There was a lively band and large crowd (for the space) in the bar, and the boys enjoyed that. The food was very good and the atmosphere wonderful.
A nice but over-priced Valentine's dinner. Our dinner at the Spiced Pear was pleasent but expensive. The food was above average, but not overly memorable, and not a great value based on either creativity or portion size, which was on the small side. The waitstaff was very good and attentive. While I'm sure the view during the summer justifies some of the price-point, it is non-existent during the heart of winter. Overall, I would return to the Spiced Pear for a sunset cocktail, but I have found other restaurants in Newport that are better condenders when it comes to a $$$$ dining experience.
Our server was prompt and helpful. The lobster bisque had several chunks of lobster meat and was a large portion for nine dollars, the Winter Garden Salad a bit skimpy for fifteen, but delicious. The lamb duet was cooked to perfection with especially tender and flavorful lamb. The dessert soufflé was airy and sweet, enough for two people. The wine list was excellent, a Wine Spectator award for 2011, but with many reasonably priced wines as well. The staff was good-natured and cheerful. We plan to return.
We went for Christmas lunch and were met by cheerful and extremely friendly staff who could not have been more helpful, a seemingly different experience from that of other reviewers. Our server was charming and knowledgable. The ambiance was perfect - quiet, cozy and sophisticated. The whole scene was relaxed, our table overlooked a gorgeous wintery sea and the food was surprising. We expected less food for twice the price, which is our experience in NYC. What we got was generous proportions of delicious food beautifully presented. It honestly was the best Christmas dinner experience we've ever had. We will surely return on our next trip to Newport.
