The Southern Gentleman
The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

The waiter we had was awful. She kept serving us from behind the booth reaching over 2-3 people. I had to verbally ask her to serve us from the end of the table (like a normal server).
We asked for a menu and it was delivered to the wrong table, the server cam back to the table and asked had we made up our mind and we had to let her know that we never even got the menu.
The Sunday’s Brunch menu is EXTREMELY limited. The French Toast was dry and the topping was not good. Two people with my party ordered it and didn’t like it.
I’ve been here on a Saturday evening and it was MUCH better, but today’s experience was awful!
The food wasn’t great at all it was loud and my waiter wasn’t the best overall I wouldn’t come back
I went to the Southern Gentlemen for best friends birthday. From when we walked in the door the staff was very welcoming, the ambiance was amazing. Cocktails, appetizers and food was everything. I would come back and come for Sunday brunch.
Very very good good and outstanding service. It was our birthdays and the managers came by with special treat too. Would come again!
Disappointing. We all three has the kale Caesar salad and two of the three agreed it was very gritty. One didn’t eat her salad, I picked the chicken out of mine. Our third person did enjoy hers. Would not go back. Too many great places to eat around this area.
Great brunch experience. TSG Burger and Pimento and bacon omelette was delicious. Service was slightly slow but overall awesome atmosphere. Will be back.
My husband and I went for a date night. We made reservations on Open Table the same day. We were seated right away and our server greeted us shortly after. The meal recommendations were spot on and the drinks were delicious. We will be sure to go again and try some of the other dishes.
Lamb was amazing. Grits have no taste but good texture. But seriously the grits are horrible. Okra and green beans were solid. Will visit again to try some other items.
The hostess and server were nice but did not seem very experienced. The food was pretty bland - we ordered three appetizers and a meal each and there was nothing that we ate that I wanted more of or would go back for. The noise level was really high - it was hard to carry on a conversation. None of the experiences were outright awful but, for the prices, I would expect everything to better...especially the food.
The perfect date night. Atmosphere was great, lively and fun. The food and drinks were amazing and reasonably priced. Can't wait to make this a regular spot.
In the spirit of constructive criticism, we were underwhelmed. After reading the great reviews on Open Table and looking at the photos of the food, our actual experience did not live up to our expectations. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting and it, itself, is pretty. The woman welcoming guests at the door was perfect. She was truly welcoming. The bartender was very welcoming and friendly. And that is where our lovely experience ended. The restaurant is loud. We were seated in a lovely booth but to speak to our dinner companions across the table from us, you had no choice but to speak loudly. The conversation going on around us was one thing but the music was loud. And then, for whatever reason, it got LOUDER. At 7:15 pm. Makes no sense to me. You literally had to just about shout at the person across the table from you so they could hear you. In a dance club I can understand that. In a restaurant where there are entrees over $30, it is unacceptable. Even the woman who was waiting on us could not hear. She asked us if we would like her to explain the menu and we said yes. She simply walked away. When she came back with our drinks we asked her again to explain the menu and she was very helpful, explaining several things. We took her advice and ordered the deviled eggs. They were delivered with NO PLATES. So the four of us stared at them for about 5 minutes until I flagged down someone... a busboy? And asked if we could get some plates. I don’t remember his comment but it was clear he was surprised we hadn’t been given any. I will say that the deviled eggs were delicious. My personal deliciousness stopped there. I ordered one of the “house specialties,” according to our waitress - the chicken breast, collards, and macaroni and cheese. The collards were tasty. The Mac/cheese was okay. The chicken was dry and tasteless. If the food were the only weak factor, I’d go back because the setting is lovely and everyone has an odd day. But the Volume-UNACCEPTABLE.
Amazing, I saw this restaurant on Atlanta Eats and decided to give it a try. We celebrated my husband's birthday. A wonderful experience.
The food- delicious. The service - attentive, for the most part. The issue - dessert was a haphazard presentation, with one being delivered, and the other three diners left hanging. We had expressed to our server that we had a show to attend, but we couldn’t get those last desserts out. We finally timed desserts, check, and a manager’s apology with a certificate for complimentary dessert at our next visit.
great food, nice ambiance ! It is in a nice area with a nice view.
It was our two month anniversary and the service was outstanding!
Planned my trip to this restaurant to try some Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and was very disappointed to discover the prices were 30-50% higher than what they advertise on their online menu. Besides that, everything else was great. The short rib was amazing!
Til was our server and was absolutely excellent. This was my third time eating at the Southern Gentlemen and each time it gets better.
This places is great for any type of occasion. The food and drink is fabulous. The service is awesome.
Brunch on Veterans day found the restaurant very busy, loud bad live music, restrooms without supplies and long waits for food and drink. We made this mistake but will not return.
The food was great. We went for brunch.
Only dislike was the live music was so loud it felt like you were competing with it to hear your conversations rather than it being background music.
The “rabbit pot pie” tasted like chicken - shredded chicken. It had the consistency of shredded chicken and a pricey meal at that. I should have had the burger and my friend loved the beef.
Excellent service and food. Braised short rib was our favorite.
Service was excellent. The dish of shirt rubs was outstanding but over-priced. We sent back the spaghetti squash dish.
Heated wax making vet loud noise on the patio which was disturbing
The good: Atmosphere and Staff
The bad: The food
Not bad for happy hour but probably will not eat here again.
The waitress seemed new. It took our food forever. Service overall was subpar
Food was fantastic!! Wonderful service! Beautiful decor! Highly recommend!!
Great place to dine. I made reservation for Sunday Brunch, I enjoyed the food and the service was spot on. Very cute host of front and a very cute waitress to boot.
Went for brunch and waited 1 hour before we got our food. We got there 1hr after they opened. Folks around us who ordered after us got their food before us. Got tired of waiting and then left.
I usually sit at the bar for dinner on a Thursday or Friday and never had a bad experience. But brunch was something else.
Awesome restaurant! Manager was very good and attentive. Server was very professional and entertainment awesome.
My first time and I'm definitely returning. It's was a pleasant break from the rush and expectations of your typical evening in Atlanta.
Our first time at this restaurant and we were so disappointed. Noise level was thru the roof and food was very mediocre for the price. Our waiter was great and did a great job but ambience was lackluster. Appetizers were good but entree was not good at all. Drinks were extremely overpriced and watered down. So disappointing!
by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with any restaurant on open table. truly disappointing.
We just returned from TSG and were blown away by the service (and the food!). Lauren made this an evening to remember for us--she was absolutely right in all her recommendations, and she was so friendly and welcoming.
We ordered, as we often do at a new restaurant, as many appetizers as we can eat, ordering two at a time until we get full. Lauren was in full agreement with our strategy, saying she, too, liked to order that way. We also ordered several of their special drinks including a new Kentucky bourbon, "Old Medley," that was fabulous. Lauren guided us to that order, asking us what our price point might be (so very thoughtful--nothing worse, in my opinion, than a server suggesting a drink w/out a price with us only discovering when we get the bill that it was 3 or 4 x more expensive than we expected).
The main courses and salads may be wonderful too, but we can recommend the pimento cheese dip, the fried green tomatoes, and the mussels--all three were the highlight of our meal (well, including the drinks). But then, when we opened our leftovers, we discovered a piece of chocolate chess pie that Lauren had included. OMG (yes, I am pretending I am a Millennial), it was so very very good. We can hardly wait to return.
It was our first visit to Atlanta and found this gem. The Southern Gentlemen was a bar in a trendy shopping district. Their specialty appeared to be whiskey & southern food. Everything was amazing, service, seating and food were all fantastic.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a group of six women and the service was prompt.
Good food; great atmosphere; excellent service. I will definitely return.
Not for me I am afraid. Too bright inside for dinner and our waiter was too relaxed. Did not write down our order and so therefore missed off one of our starters. What a surprise! Seemed reluctant to take our full order in one go and wanted to take it in stages. Strange! The wine order was also messed up. Red wine poured before white etc. The sharing steak platter came with only one plate and you are supposed to hack into your ribeye and share it out yourself. The food was pretty good but the rest of the experience meant it will not be enough to come back for.
Food was excellent. We had the Ribeye for two, the burger and the Fried Chicken. Everyone really enjoyed the meal. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered. Our server was training a new server and the two of them did a very good job.
Fantastic service and food. The weather decided to cooperate as well and we were able to enjoy our meal on the patio.
Our server was amazing and the manager was really attentive! We will be back
