Contemporary Southern
The Southern Gentleman is a Southern-inspired gastropub in The Shops Buckhead Atlanta. The concept celebrates every aspect of what it means to be from the South with a fresh, modern take on traditional dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The bar program explores the artistry and history of classic Southern cocktails—everything from barrel-aged cocktails to bottled libations to adult beverages on tap, along with New World wines and craft beers and the “perfect” mint julep.

The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

Best Manhattan ever!!! Thank you to John the bartender. Followed by the Best Fried Chicken and ending with cinnamon sugar donuts! YUM! Highly recommend.

We went to celebrate my 40th birthday. Everyone there made it so special for me!! Food was amazing. We tried a little of everything—bbq leeks, flat iron steak, pork belly, shrimp and grits, and short ribs. Literally everything was so amazing; not one plate had a bite left on it. Soooo good!!

I’ve tried this place on numerous occasions and this time was by far the worst.
We were seated promptly by the host, then we had one server show up 8 minutes after we were seated: Joe.
He took our order for a coke and tea and water but he never brought us water.
After more time, another server (Allison) came and she said she’d take care of us... but the original server brought out drinks after that.
It was confusing and awkward. We didn’t know who to order our food with and the dining experience lagged.

After we got our Coke and tea, again no water, we ordered our food. I had 3 small plates, and my date had the fried chicken.
They brought my small plates and then we had to wait another five minutes for my dates fried chicken, so my food started to get cold... and they never gave us water.
I also requested some bread or rolls and they never brought that over. My leeks had bacon bits that were too dry and chalky. After dropping off the chicken, no one talked to us for over 30 minutes. I had to call out the server by name to get her attention. It wasn’t busy in the restaurant, and I felt embarrassed to have brought my date here. I wanted to impress them and enjoy our evening.

The menu is TOO SMALL. Not sure if they are using the cover of COVID as an excuse but if you can’t execute more items than that....just stay closed.

The service was phenomenal. The food menu was extremely limited, portions small, and flavor very meh. Atmosphere and cocktails were great, But I won’t rush back for the food.

I chose this restaurant to bring my husband in for Father's Day around 3pm. We ended up spending $50 on a chicken sandwich (dark meat) which we don't even eat plus fries. Basically the choices were limited on the menu. Most restaurants sell white chicken especially fast foods joints. So to dine at a restaurant in Buckhead one would think surely they serve white chicken.

We spent too much money to eat a chicken sandwich & fries.

The food was very average; chicken sandwiches are not all white meat but rather a pressed patty of "parts." I've had better chicken sandwiches at Chik-Fil-A, and the fries were typical store-bought variety. There were three of us and all three dishes came out at different times and one of the orders was wrong. Service was slow and confused - too many people servicing one table and they weren't communicating. The music and patio is really nice, but this is third time we've been disappointed with the food so I don't think we'll be back.

This is a post Covid review. We have had brunch here many times pre-Covid. They unveiled the new post Covid menu, it’s very limited, the chef is very inflexible. I had the braised short rib hash, I got a teaspoon of short ribs and a bowl cool of potatoes. Everything is smaller, not as fabulous, just really really average. This used to be a superb brunch spot, you can tell Covid is hitting them hard so I will try again when things get better. But this new menu is quite disappointing. I found myself apologizing to my husband numerous times for Father’s Day.

The customer service and ambiance was great! The good selection was terrible, they didn’t have the items I saw on the online menu, due to summer they I opted for a Caesar salad, had no idea they served the lettuce hot, it wasn’t good at all, then I ordered au gratin potatoes, they gave me a small square lol... I won’t be back.
