The Southern Gentleman
The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

Good vibe, friendly and welcoming host. Expansive menu with something for everyone. Food was good but not for the prices charged but that's Buckhead. Catfish was salty and lacking in catfish, which was rather disappointing. Drinks were good.
Our server was very good
Grits were too thin. Avocado toast should have been grilled.
I won’t be back.
Wonderful experience! My wife and I dined here to celebrate our Anniversary. The ambiance was great and the food quality was superb - we tried several menu items! Korey was an outstanding and personable server as well. We will definitely return.
It was so hot in there, but the food was amazing!
Sanford was amazing. He made our dining experience pleasurable.
I would dine here more often if there was a vegetarian entree or two on the menu.
The food was great but the service was better. Kory did an amazing job telling us what was on the menu while also being fun!
Our friends got the hush puppies and said they were super good so definitely try those!
A great spot, in a fun area. Easy parking, free up to three hours with validation from the business you are going to. In this case, The Southern Gentleman was "out of validations", and so both I and my son who met us there had to pay for parking.
Service was acceptable, but nothing to brag about. Our water glasses were empty most of the time, which was too bad since it was a hot evening.
We had several appetizers: okra chips, deviled eggs, cauliflower blossoms, and the buttermilk rolls. They came out one at a time, which would have been OK, except we got a second delivery of cauliflower instead of the buttermilk rolls. This was a real disappointment as it was never corrected.
We had the fried chicken plate and the trout plate, a couple of Old Fashions, and a Scarlett Belle. Everything we had to eat and drink was delicious.
We would have loved to try dessert also, but when we asked about it was were told that the kitchen was already cleaning up and so it was too late. Really? It was 9:40pm and the hours state they are open until 10:00pm. If this is normal for TSG (not normal in my experience) the waitstaff should make sure they ask you if you want anything else before the kitchen closes. Like a bar does a "last call". So we left disappointed that we had not gotten the dessert we were looking forward to.
Overall, TSG was an enjoyable evening and I would consider returning there the next time I am in Atlanta. But with so many other good restaurants, to try...I might not. It wasn't good enough to warrant a must return visit.
Girlfriends gathering post pandemic was awesome at The Southern Gentlemen. Our waitstaff was attentive, food was seasoned and delish and drinks was hittin’. It was a good vibe and time.
The food was really good but the service was subpar.
Enjoyed celebrating with my friends. Good/different food besides the norm. Great experience.
Our server Kavin, truly made the experience what it was. He was absolutely incredible with unbelievable knowledge of the entire menu front and back. Every food item he suggested was spot on perfect. We ended up ordering everything he suggested with not one complaint at the table. He was attentive and was checking on us constantly. His personality and sense of humor was part of the ambience. I can’t imagine having dinner there without him as our server. There is no doubt that when I come back to Atlanta for business I will be going back there. The food, service and location was perfect!!!!
I went to Southern Gentleman for my birthday and had a great experience. My entire family enjoyed their food and experience. The food was amazing especially the hush puppies. Our waiter was attentive, funny, and provided great hospitable service. The atmosphere was vibrant and nice! Overall Southern Gentleman is highly recommended 10/10!
The service was okay, water was always empty… we had to keep asking for drinks. The food wasn’t great and the music was incredibly loud. Not what we expected since the restaurant was 1/2 empty.
This is a casual place. I thought the setting was still very nice, but it can get rather loud. The food itself is very good. I wish they had vegetarian entrée selections.
Customer service was excellent! Food was not great, menu changed since last visit, best items have been removed.
Food was outstanding. I had the duck confit benedict. Portion size was the perfect amount, duck was tender and potatoes were seasoned well. Brunched with my sister so we opted for the carafe is mimosas which was worth it. Kavin gave exceptional service. I will definitely be returning.
Excellent Buckhead brunch choice. Great shrimp and grits.
Food was average. Service was terrible. Server made a comment that they keep seating them and they can’t catch up. Quick tip- stop taking tables until you are out of the weeds. One way to keep customers happy when you are in the weeds- ensure they have an alcoholic beverage... quick way to make someone happy.
The server was fairly new, I’ve had him before. Not very friendly, or attentive.
Mary and Alex were amazing! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
The outdoor dining space is amazing, drinks great, and food good.
Wow. Can’t sit to come back.
Waited for over 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us...
I really want to give this restaurant a better rating as I do believe they staff wield extremely hard to accommodate guest especially management. The food could definitely be better and the servers seemed overwhelmed. I’m hopeful things improve as this place is in a great location, beautiful ambience and good staff.
Beautiful setting, but service is slow. Food is mediocre at best, but the ambience is lovely.
Service was one of the worst experiences we’ve encountered. Server was late to arrive to table, she was distracted and disheveled, her shirt a wrinkled mess. She brought one menu for the 4 of us, as they were out. When pressed, she said she guessed she could find the QR code and finally found one. Food delivered by another server, without the sharing plate we requested. He said we’d get one, never returned, had to flag our server down to request that and silverware. The bread on my son’s Nashville sandwich was burned black (half) and his fries were limp and cold. We ordered fried chicken and skillet cake and other son got French toast. Syrup on both meals was room temp/cold. Portion size of chicken was small for the price. French toast overly sweet. Server NEVER returned to our table during meal and we didn’t see her to flag her down to discuss our issues or to get refills. When she came at end of meal we explained our issues and she said she’d talk to manager. Manager never came to our table, just took 20% off the meal. That didn’t address the food we couldn’t eat because it was burned/cold nor the drinks we never got. Those having bottomless mimosas seemed to never run empty and larger parties received more attention. Restaurant is very pretty so it’s a shame. Drive to Tupelo Honey if you want this cuisine. It’s worth the drive!
Such great and attentive service. The pan seared trout was such a heavenly dish!
Great, food! The service could be better. I was placed at table immediately; however, the waiter did not come until 30-35 minutes later. Seems the facility may be low staffed.
The food was very bland and overly greasy. It was a far cry from the food pre-pandemic. Sadly dissappointing experience except for the service.
I enjoyed absolutely everything about our visit here! The food and drinks were all fabulous and Tracy (sp?) was the sweetest! They took such good care of us and we felt right at home. This will definitely become a regular place we take visitors when they come to town.
We had an excellent dinner at The Southern Gentleman. The food was creative and delicious, and the service was impeccable. Definitely look forward to my next meal there.
I took my wife and daughter to the Sunday's brunch. The food and service was great. Thanks
TERRIBLE. Went for brunch. Service was horrible. Our mimosas came after we were finished eating. Took 45 minutes for the server to take our order. AC inside was broken and they didn’t warn us. We were sweating inside while eating our cold food. I had guests to entertain so I took them there because it looked good and I was so embarrassed. What a horrible experience.
Food was superb, server was super cheerful and our orders came pretty quickly for it being a Sunday brunch timeslot. Portion sizes on some items our table got were a bit smaller than I figured for some of the prices, but overall very, very pleased with it. Definitely will return!
Food was delicious. I will definitely be back.
Foster was the best server ever! Very honest about how busy the restaurant was on a Friday night but still provided stellar service. It was clear that everyone was working together to make the night a success — the host, bartenders, waiters —- all pitched in to handle tables, drinks, and reservations. The food came out fresh and hot (and not from heating lamps). The catfish, fried chicken entree, and oysters were delicious.
This was my 2d or 3d visit to this restaurant, which I've really enjoyed previously. Boy, has the scene it changed. We went on a Saturday night, expecting it to be a place to see and be seen, an excuse to dress up and enjoy a little style. Our fellow diners had other ideas.
The crowd has significantly deteriorated – and who's going to spend $36 for skirt steak and fries, if the atmosphere is unpleasant? It wasn't the experience we were looking for, so we left before ordering. Perhaps we should return on a weekday.
My favorite was the seasonal mimosa. My date and I really enjoyed the refreshing flavors mixed in our mimosas. Everything was delicious. The noise made it a little difficult to hear my date talk, however, for a Saturday brunch that is to be expected.
