The Southern Gentleman is a Southern-inspired gastropub in The Buckhead Village District. The concept celebrates every aspect of what it means to be from the South with a fresh, modern take on traditional dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The bar program explores the artistry and history of classic Southern cocktails—everything from barrel-aged cocktails to bottled libations to adult beverages on tap, along with New World wines and craft beers and the “perfect” mint julep.

The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

Dinner at 5 p.m. on a Wednesday, so it was not too crowded, but there were a fair number of folks there. Service was excellent - thanks Cassie! - we were taken care of but not pestered, and her recommendations were great. We had the fried green tomatoes app, braised short rib pot roast and fried chicken. All was great. Chicken was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside! The collards with the fried chicken were not my favorite ... they left the big stems in, and if you do that you really should cook them longer so they aren't crunchy and stringy. But flavors were all interesting, and portions were ample. The space is definitely a vibe! We will be back.

Family brunch on Sunday. Cassie, our server was excellent (5 stars for her alone). Hush-puppies Appetizer was savory and sweet. Surprising but quite good. Our entree dishes were also very flavorful: Shrimp&Grits, Braised Short Rib, Bacon Egg&Cheese on Croissant. A most excellent brunch experience.

Food is great, love coming to this restaurant. Unfortunately my service was lacking when I went this time. Waiter had an issue with me switching tables and then service from there went out the window, very disappointing. Bad service can ruin a good night out. However the young lady who ran our drinks, had the best service, wish she could have taken over. Hostess was accommodating as well.

Very expensive average hamburger cold fries that were not good (I make better ones at home). I had a reservation, but I was seated outside. It was hot. The server was not attentive enough to keep water glasses filled up.

We had a nice brunch early on a Sunday. I wish there had been a few more food options but all in all nice selection. I had the braised short rib hash which was delicious. The noise level was a little higher than I would have liked as it was hard to have a conversation. It wasn’t so amazing that I’m planning my next visit but I would come back.

Michael was a fantastic waiter. The restaurant may have been understaffed, as we did not receive enough menus to begin with. We also had to wait a while for our water glasses to get filled and anyone to come by for our drink orders. On top of this, the restaurant was entirely out of hot tea. The lack of coffee drinks or any tea whatsoever was a real disappointment.

What a most incredible dining experience! @chefbankswhite and the team @thesoutherngentlemanatl have truly outdone themselves. The experience starts from the moment you enter the establishment until the moment you depart. Upon arrival, I was greeted ever so warmly by a most gracious host, who promptly checked me, alerted me that one of my guests was at the bar, and shared I would be seated as soon as the other members of my party arrived. At the bar, I engaged in friendly banter with the bartender about making the best drinks ever and I had an Old Fashioned earlier. He offered to make one and promised it would be amazing and he did not disappoint! While waiting, Chef comes over to welcome us to the establishment, as he and I had worked together, previously. We then got seated and the tastings/culinary delight began. @chefbankswhite and team took us on a journey of infused and combined flavors that forced you to stop and savor each bite. It seemed that with each serving the food simply got better. Every dish was full of flavor and personality. Every dish was so exquisitely delicious, I must list them out…#whitecheddarhushpuppies with #goatcheesecrema, #friedgreentomatoes #smokedlardons #whippedpimentocheese, #deviledeggs, #smokedgoudamacncheese, #gulfshrimpngrits, #berkshireporkchop #honeyglaze #smokedbaconnyellowcornsuccotash, #sweetpotatocornbread, #braisedshortribpotroast #smokedgoudapotatopuree, #castironpeachcobbler I must mention we had the most incredible server ever - Michael. His attention to detail, his level of customer e garment, his positive, energetic spirit made the experience even that much more enjoyable. He was truly vested in making the experience top notch. Kudos to Executive Chef @chefbankswhite , Sous Chef DJ, our server Michael and the entire team @thesoutherngentlemanatl for one of the best culinary dining experiences ever.

My experience here was great from the moment I walked in. The drinks from the bar were flavorful without being too too strong. The food was just like mama made. By the time I was done with my plate I could feel the ‘itis trying to creep in. I’ll definitely be back to The Southern Gentleman. Also save room for dessert!!!

Service was great. Food was subpar, like tourist food. If you live in ATL there are far better restaurants than this one. The food itself, no complexity, purely one note. Absolutely fabulous dining experience! Let’s begin with the service our server was Michala she was AMAZING! 5 star all the way, above and beyond is an understatement. I visited this restaurant for the first time with my two sisters. Our waitress, Rachel, was amazing! She was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. She also took the time out to capture a good group photo with no hesitation. The food was good, came out quickly and was also very affordable. We sat outside and had a very nice view. I’d definitely visit again!

Fast, friendly service on a Friday evening. I tried the buttermilk fried chicken, collard greens, sweet potato cornbread, smoked gouda mac & cheese, & cast iron peach cobbler + breakfast in ga cocktail—all delicious, i’d recommend. Very good ambience inside and outside the restaurant.

Amazing brunch experience and environment. We came to visit from Florida just to get away for birthday celebration. Hostess was kind and welcoming and helped us with our luggage as we stop on way to airport. Francisco, our server was on point with service. The food and drinks were outstanding as well. Very nice spot for Sunday brunch or dinner!

Overall enjoyable experience. The drinks were good, but the price of the food could be a little cheaper. The collard greens were a little tough or at least not what I’m used too.

There was not any air conditioning actively running in the restaurant. The food was truthfully bland and simple. Overall I wouldn’t recommend.

Great time at the Southern Gentleman! The food was amazing and our server was fantastic as well. We went for my husbands birthday and we will definitely be back! The macaroni and cheese, shrimp fritters and fried green tomatoes were all delicious. The short rib pot roast was also amazing! Definitely check them out if you get the chance 🙂

I made reservations at this restaurant on a whim for my mother and I after reading the menu on OpenTable. We were pleasantly surprised to find this little gem of a restaurant located on the upper level of a trendy and quaint shopping center. After exiting a glass elevator and slinking through a narrow walkway (disabled/older/fuller bodied folks beware!), we had arrived. It was a rainy Monday night, so as expected the restaurant was not very full. However, we didn’t let that deter us as we may have normally! Our server was a very pleasant young woman named Shannon, who had a lovely Southern charm and familiarity as well as a lively, bright spirit. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, and when she recommended her favorite dishes to us, we realized it was exactly what we wanted to order. Shannon bravely navigated my mother’s and my unique tastes in cocktails to find a perfect drink for us both. My mother had a classic Old Fashioned, and I tried something out of the norm for me: a fruity drink called the Southern Belle (or Scarlet Belle?). Both of us were very pleased with our drinks. As recommended, I ordered the braised beef. I was floored to discover it was not only as good as the one I made regularly for myself and friends in college; it was BETTER! I am a small woman with little appetite, but I ate every morsel on my plate. My mom tried the trout, and she loved the flavors! Her only critique was that the portion of trout was somewhat leaner and smaller than what we normally have at other restaurants. For dessert, we tried the lemon poppyseed pound cake, which was not what we would consider true Southern pound cake but was a flavorful, light — yet somehow also dense — variation. TL;DR: My family and I have eaten all around the world at MANY fine dining restaurants and homestyle ones alike. If you want the best bang for your buck, The Southern Gentleman is a must-try for your Atlanta trip!
