The Southern Gentleman
The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

Very pleasant and enjoyable experience!
I love the Southern Gentleman it has such a great vibe. Saturday night a close friend and I just decided we wanted to get out and made a reservation.
When I arrived I was seated immediately and my party joined shortly afterwards.
Our waiter I believe was cool but I believe maybe stretched to thin because his did a good job, but there was room for improvement. Drinks not being refilled and forgotten items.
But overall the ambience and the food was on point. I will definitely be back. I had the Fried Chicken and it was delish.
Drinks were great, so was brunch but our service was the best!
Second time here and I brought my family with me. They loved it
I loved it! Our server Kari was amazing!
When the wait at Pappadeauxs was hour and half I turned to Yelp for recommendations.SG popped up. Reserved here on Open Table. Pappadeaux is no comparison. SG was the place to be. Fabulous food! Wonderful atmosphere. Great waiter: Kavin. Visiting from Nashville. We will be back!!
This restaurant is very beautiful and located in such a nice environment. I had the pancake and waffle dish and it was amazing! Very flavorful and very filling. Our waitress was kind of slow but she was sweet.
Place was crowded and there was no social distancing in place when it came to seating in the restaurant. Bathroom was also small. Food was great tho and came out really quick
Great overall experience. I will be back
Awesome spot! Will definitely be visiting again soon!!
I met a friend from out of town for Sunday brunch (we hadn't been back to the restaurant since Chef Joseph left). It was another wonderful meal. Due to Covid, the space was less crowded so we weren't rushed for time. The food and service was impeccable as always. We had a lovely time and look forward to coming back again soon.
On the fall/winter menu we ordered the fried chicken, lobster risotto, smoked old fashioned, mint julip, and squash custard. The lobster risotto was missing something, it was a little bland. The fried chicken was awesome with the creamed leeks and carrots. The delicata squash custard was unique and awesome. It had a slight floral flavor with fall spices and a little tangy from the cranberries. I loved it. I do miss the tomato pie from the summer menu though.
It was super loud and my husbands food was over salted. My scallops were amazing but I didn’t care for the appetizer rolls.
Our waiter was not attentive at all, served us spoiled creamer for our coffee and to top it all off, our order did not come out correctly. We ended up cutting our brunch short and getting a refund. We wound up getting tacos from elsewhere instead.
The food was terrible. The lobster risotto was undercook. The rice was crunchy and the lobster was chewy. I’m really disappointed
I came for New Year’s Eve dinner but never received dinner we waited go hours for them to finally tell us they were out of food it ruined our night we could have went elsewhere if they didn’t wait 3 hours to tell us worst experience ever
The following review is atypical of the few experiences I’ve had at Southern Gentleman. I would otherwise rate them 4 or 5 stars across the board.
The Southern Gentleman NYE 7-course tasting experience was poorly planned. I prepaid for the event and had a reservation for two at 10 pm, but I wasn’t able to be seated until 11:30 pm. The hostess offered free glasses of “champagne” / sparkling wine while guests waited. That was appreciated, but I felt more comfortable drinking outside in the cold and damp evening since Southern Gentleman’s indoor wait area and large bar was packed with people. No space considerations were made for COVID-19. It appears the venue allowed the bar to be first come, first serve with no seating blocked between parties. Beyond the issue of health protocols, having a persistent crowd at the bar, who were also ordering food, apparently overwhelmed the kitchen.
My guest and I were ultimately seated in the front corner of the covered patio (first available table), which was spaced comfortably enough for me. However, as of 12:30 am I had only been served one of seven tastings/courses, and the first course was room temperature...not hot out the kitchen (lukewarm food from a backed up kitchen???). The first course was very good otherwise...wish the other tastings appeared more promptly (or at all). The DJ was unable to get his equipment to work with Southern Gentleman’s sound system, so not only was there no music in the venue, there wasn’t a venue-led new year countdown. Other guests sitting for the tasting also struggled. At 2.5 hours into my original reservation time and no active progress on the food front, I requested for the manager to refund the evening. This was handled apologetically and promptly on Southern Gentleman’s end. Little explanation was needed. The manager provided a premium bottle of actual champagne to go, and contact info to reschedule, which I do greatly appreciate.
Not a terrible evening, just not the most fulfilling.
The beauty is in the accompaniments. The sauces and remoulades are fantastic and very thoughtful.
It was New Year’s Eve so I expected it to be a little slow but we got there at 8:45 and our food didn’t come out until 10:30. Granted I ordered something outside of the preset menu but then I was told it would cost like it was the non vegetarian option but they still charged me for the vegetarian option and then an extra $18 dollars. Aside from that, great experience. They should think about having more then one vegetarian option on their menu for their main dish though.
Worst dining experience I’ve had in some time. The menu was set for NYE and it still took almost 4 hours to get our main course. When the courses did arrive most of them were of poor quality and taste. Making this worse the meal was completely overpriced. I regret making my New Years Eve dinner reservations at Southern Gentleman and will not be returning.
Service was slow. My food was good. My wife’s food was not. Our bill came to $93. And when we split it with a family member the total for each of our bills came to $66. We figured the tip was included. So we didn’t include any tip. The waiter came back and asked why we didn’t tip. And we thought since the bills came out to $66 each the tip was already s covered. So it seems like he was getting over on us.
It was great. The only thing that was bothersome if the bartender was wearing his mask under his chin the entire time, touching his face while preparing people’s drinks.
The host and the server were very polite and friendly. The remainder of the staff were laughing, chatting, and being extremely loud with each other. Not to mention, the only employees wearing a face mask were our server and the host. The food was subpar and a bit salty. The ambience is cozy but no effort was made to make the visit special or memorable.
We went for an early afternoon Christmas Eve meal. The food was pretty good, aside from the lobster bisque which was very expensive considering it had no lobster meat. Our server was good. The chicken and corn cake was delicious!
I had shrimp and grits (amazing) and everyone else had the buttermilk fried chicken. It was delicious. Even our 7 and 10 year olds said the chicken was the best thing they had ever eaten, and they are very hard to please.
I went to Southern Gentleman for a Sunday brunch with some friends. Our server was so nice and accommodating. All of the food was good and they even gave us a complimentary shrimp and grits.
Would love to say we loved it, but we didn’t.
Service was slow - out of drinks we ordered - pork was rare & took a long time for the meat to be recooked.
Manager did comp our food & because of that will give it another chance.
Best peach Moscow mule in the city and I love the duck.
Great experience, amazing food and associates were awesome!!
Four of us met for Sunday brunch and was so disappointed with the quality of food. We all ordered the omelette special and no one ate it! It was extremely runny. Being this was my second visit there so I was extremely saddened by the quality of food.. not sure I’d ever return for brunch maybe I’ll try dinner.
Get the honey fried chicken!
It was not as expected. Literally everything we ordered had some component that was incorrect/not as described on the menu. The Prosecco they had on the menu, they had a very cheap champagne instead. There’s a drink on the menu that calls for a specific Prosecco and they didn’t use that at all. Then onto the food, the pimento cheese appetizer did not come with the peppers, just the pork rinds (it was good though, but I was expecting to balance the fried pork skins in melted pimento cheese with something healthy). Then the soft scrambled egg brunch entree said it came with a cold smoked trout, but it was definitely smoked salmon (might want to be careful as some people have salmon allergies), but I didn’t mind until I took a big bite of the Swiss chard to find out it was not washed properly and was very sandy/gritty, I unfortunately found not finish it, although it looked good. It was overall disappointing, but with high hopes because the other places in that area are amazing and top notch. My suggestion is to re do your menus and put on there what you’ll actually serve, and don’t forget to throughly wash you veggies!
We had a great time with our friends for brunch. Our server was great and the food was delicious. The music was a little loud for conversation but overall we enjoyed ourselves.
Wish there were more veggie options!
Disappointed in menu and food quality was so poor.
I had the banana bread French toast and wow they took two slices of store bought banana bread and just poured syrup and added to slices of bananas on the side that's something my 4 year old can put together. Please don't waist your money expensive and low quality food.
Got the duck confit for brunch. It was altogether a cold and bland meal. The beet juice was amazing though
Drinks were delicious, service attentive, food scrupulous.
Great service and ambiance on the rooftop.
Chicken is a must!
A great evening! Amazing service and also food! Highly recommend!
