The Southern Gentleman
The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

Awesome place! Went for brunch and the chicken and pancake meal was so good!!
I love the view but we found hair on our cup and another string of hair in our shrimp & grits. The manger was great! Our server was kind and sweet but her overall appearance could have been a little neater.
Excellent service, delicious food, comfortable deck
This was my first time there and I was kind of disappointed. The reviews that I read were all over the place, and by adding my own I would say that this place is kind of hit or miss. We had reservations and still had to wait a while and the wait after we ordered was long as well. The food was just ok but the drinks were good. They have an excellent setting though which really draws you in, so I will probably give it another try maybe for brunch or drinks.
Seated 45 minutes after reservation. Food arrived item by item not all together. I didn’t get any of my food til over hour after being seated. My family had finished their meal before I got my 1st item. With such horrible service, actually had to request manager intervention opposed to my servers trying to offer accommodations. Just the worst dining experience I’ve had in a very long time. No excuse for a restaurant with a reputation of great quality
We had a great time celebrating Mother's Day at The Southern Gentleman. Although it took a while for our food to be brought out, the server and manager made sure to check on us, apologized and provided our family with discount cards. Great service - thank you!
The food was over priced I expected much better food than just eggs foran omelette and kale with nothing else no sauce for the tough steak and for 6 people they brought out 5 pastries when each in if us should have gotten a whole basket fir 60$ my family eats out all the time at very nice restaurants and this one did not stand up to the quality expected for the price on Mother’s Day, red lobster ect..... would have been a better choice😡
Mother’s day fixed price menu... poor service... food came out at different times and prepared incorrectly. Manager was very helpful in comping a lot of our meal which is the only reason this gets 2 instead of 1 star.
Best food I’ve had in awhile. Definitely a must if your looking for great service and beyond amazing food.
Waiter and service was great. However the food was totally disappointing. Not worth the price for food that had poor quality and taste.
Do not recommend the Carolina pork, worse dish I have ever had.
First and last time trying it. Not worth the experience.
Was super excited to go there based on all the reviews, but it was definitely not up to all the hype. First, the service was so slow. It took us about 20 minutes to receive 1 cocktail and 2 mimosas. The server also told us that he "didn't want to show his face at our table until we got our drinks"... lol you're kidding right??? We then ordered food, the food came out fairly quick so that was nice. The chicken and pancake was about the only saving grace of this place. My friend ordered the jumbo, it had 1 piece of shrimp, that's all. The potatoes tasted like celery and although they were requested well done, they came out like they had been heated up in a microwave. Anyhow, not worth it for the money, the food wasn't great, the service was lacking, and given the choice, I would absolutely go somewhere else.
I haven’t seen my girls in a few years. Perfect get together spot on a Thursday evening.
Took my wife for the first time. She had the fried chicken dinner and loved it. I had the rainbow trout, all delicious. We shared bacon and fried green tomatoes. Everything I’ve ever had here is excellent
Manager knowledge of bourbon was fantastic. Started off great, felt special, but then dinner service was absent, ran out of key menu items (small menu to begin with) and food arrived in piece meal. Had to ask for drink refills multiple times. Basically ignored us after we ordered. Beautiful patio. Gorgeous night.
First time for brunch, patio seating. Very good everything!!!
Food was absolutely delicious. Atmosphere was very elegant. Must go back for dinner experience.
Lackluster brunch menu and average bites but good atmosphere. I expected so much more but was disappointed. Black bean fritters were okay, Johnny cakes needed better presentation/aesthetics, pecan roll was not your ooey gooey goodness and had bleached flour flavor. Deviled eggs was the highlight of bites to try.
Came here for brunch, the waffle and pancakes would not be my first pick. The food was average - but the portions are really large. The bread, muffin, cornbread basket was amazing! Would have rather tried the salad 🤔
- Great ambiance though!
This was my second time dining here but this time was not as good as the first. We came in the middle of a weekday and there were maybe three other tables there. I feel the service was slow especially given the number of other customers. When the food arrived, the chips and pork rinds tasted like they had been sitting out not freshly fried. The deviled eggs were pretty good. My husband and I both ordered the fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The flavors were delightful. Chicken was crispy and moist. Collards were packed with bacon and flavor. However, the food was again like warm.
The place is also a little hard to find. You can take the elevator up from behind the valet stand. My first visit was on a Friday night and it was loud, but the service and food was good.
The food was just ok and our waiter messed up our drinks three times. Probably won’t eat there again.
A return customer I will be. Everything was GREAT, and exceeded my expectation.
We had written off Southern Gentleman some time ago. However, while dining at Gypsy Kitchen we are approached by Ali Ebrahimi and we share our experience with him. He admonished is to give them another chance. My husband came in Sunday for brunch. It seemed to be very popular. We sat at the bar while we waited for a table to come open on the patio. There was two bartenders, a male with dreads and a female (Kelly) I believe. They had no interest in serving us, we sat there for at least 8 minutes and they walked by us several times before I was able to get the male bartender’s attention. He acknowledged me but did not return for 12 more minutes, at which time he started I had caught him at a bad time. What does that mean exactly? Finally the female came over and took our drink orders. We were told the wait for the patio would be 25-30 minutes. We we seated at the end of brunch and the food reflected that. The eggs were cold and there was something green cooked into them( garnish I was told) not atop, cooked in! The French tidy had chunks of char like the grill was scraped on the plate. The chicken with the pancakes was so salty we became hypertensive. Well we tried. Martin was our server and he was good. But not enough to make the overall experience better. Really sad the location and ambiance was super but the food and service continues to miss the mark.
This is my first time dining here. Honestly, it started out extremely rocky with our server (Amy). There was no attention to detail with her(no silverware, food orders wrong, and a decline in customer service from her). However, Eric (Manager) and a fellow server (Angelica) were AMAZING and really made up for everything. I would recommend this restaurant hands down! The atmosphere and food is really good.
Wonderful ambiance and amazing decor! The selection of beverages was expansive and great selections. The options of drinks were excellent and they tasted great! I like that there was more than 1 option for carafes which is great for a group. The service was good and the food was delicious. Everything tasted wonderful! It’s not a huge menu selection but the choices are tasty and mostly fulfilling. If you get the French toast like I ordered, you’ll need to order a side dish or two, which was plenty. The chicken sausage portion was quite large with the potatoes so I ended up having my side plates as leftovers. The chocolate chess pie wasn’t that good to me. I’m a chess pie lover and I’m used to southern homemade chess pie and this was absolutely underwhelming and a very small slice. Note: They don’t have a kids menu but they were accommodating and helpful in finding age appropriate food.
We have been to southern gentleman many times and have always enjoyed ourselves. This experience was disappointing primarily due to the service. We chose to meet friends for a leisurely brunch. Our server was not very attentive and rushed us through the meal seemingly wanting the table. Never pouring our drinks and bringing our check without asking if we needed anything else. We would have ordered desert and more drinks.
Brunch: Server was super friendly. Kitchen seemed off. Frittata was cold. Bacon served sitting in a plate of grease. Each of our food items came out at different times. Took an eternity to get a salt and pepper set. Would go back because the server tried so hard.
Let me begin by saying we will definitely be back! Sunday brunch was exceptional! We knew the menu going in, so there was no “sticker shock”. However, really re-think $7 for 4 deviled eggs (yes, two eggs cut in half)... at a cost of $0.08 each, a little more than a thumbnail-size piece of smoked trout would’ve been more than welcome. Also, ordering bourbon “neat” adds $0.50 to your bill?? We weren’t expecting such nickle and dime’ing from an establishment like this. Fifty cents on a bill with a $25 glass of bourbon seems low-rent.
I was a little disappointed with this place. I been looking at pictures on Instagram for a while so my friend and I decided to check it out this past Sunday for brunch. The waiter took forever to come to us every single time even though it wasnt too busy a the beginning. Then my friend had old hard coffee stuck at the bottom of her coffee mug which she had tell them about. Then we found a piece of plastic bag inside our cornbread. My frittata was salty as well. The manager was apologetic but the whole experience was disappointing. Wont be back again.
We will definitely be back. The food was amazing, and even when we had trouble redeeming the gift certificate, they took care of us. Even if we couldn't use it, the brunch was worth every penny. This will be a new favorite for sure. Our server was very attentive, and the food was to die for. The buttermilk fried chicken with skillet cake CANNOT be skipped. I will be back just for that. We enjoyed the leisurely pace of dining here on a Sunday morning. We didn't feel rushed and were able to savor every bite. The outdoor covered dining was beautiful and comfortable even though it was warm out. We can't wait to try it for dinner soon.
We had a blast at Southern Gentlemen. There was a big group of us celebrating our friend's birthday. Made reservations for our evening, however, we had to wait 50 MINUTES before we could be seated. Southern Gentlemen failed when they didn't even offer up an accommodation to our rather huge bill despite this grave inconvenience. Aside from that, it is a great place to visit and enjoy the company of friends or loved ones.
Everyone in our party was very underwhelmed with the food. The fried green tomatoes had a very heavy batter and did not taste good, the kale salad was absolutely drowned in water and dressing to the point of being soggy and the added shrimp were very salty. In addition, the hamburgers had a burned taste and were very salty.
Our waitress was very nice as was the bartender and the ambiance was nice but I would not recommend this restaurant. Obviously, people are just going there to be seen at the Shops of Buckhead.
We did the Saturday Brunch, the food was very good, the service too. We will be back for dinner.
We went to the Southern Gentleman before the Kip Moore concert and it was such a great experience. The service was incredible, food was outstanding and the whole ambiance of the restaurant was awesome.
The drinks were great. A little pricey. but what you'd expect from a whiskey bar. However, the single pours for whiskey are crazy. Ranging from $12 - 100+ for a single two-ounce pour. I am sure its fantastic Whiskey. But I cannot imagine their profit margins there.
The food was alright. We ordered the Deviled Eggs (fantastic) and The Fried Green Tomatoes. The Tomatoes were over fried. Almost hard. But the flavor of the "spicy" sauce on them was amazing. Also, we got four small slices. On their Yelp page, it looks like you get good sized slices. And there are 6 tomatoes per order. Not sure what happened there. The four Deviled Eggs were worth the $7 price. I would not get the tomatoes again. Not worth the money. It felt like we got two appetizers from two different places. The eggs felt very well prepped. And the tomatoes seemed like a chilis appetizer.
For the main, I had the Fried Chicken ($22) with Greens and Mac and cheese. The fried chicken was GREAT. Very moist and well seasoned. The greens were also great. It was my first time ever having Collard Greens. And I really enjoyed it. The mac and cheese tasted very generic. It was definitely homemade. But, like the Fried Green Tomatoes, it felt like an afterthought. The dish came with a small side of honey (didn't try) and a small side of spicy sauce. The sauce was awesome. But too spicy for me. I am a baby when it comes to spice though. There was a TINY biscuit with the meal that I am convinced was leftover from the Brunch rush. It was stale and cold. Definitely not made fresh with the meal or even in the couple hours before we arrived. Overall, the meal was not worth $22.
Total ticket for my wife and I was $115 before tip. That included three Drinks, an app, two main courses and she got a dessert. Taking out the $45 in drinks. $70 for the two entrees, app and dessert is not terrible for the type of restaurant. But I would not go back for food. But I would return for Drinks.
Horrible dining experience. Ruined my mother’s Easter lunch.
Easter. Thought there was a buffet today. Menu was the regular brunch menu.
Food was not tasty...service was slow, and we had to sit outside in chilly weather
Menu changed. Would like to see the waffle come back along with the collard greens.
Great ambiance. Food and drinks were on point. Geat date night spot. I would definitely recommend this place and I'll be dining again.
