The Southern Gentleman
The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

Great table for 1 overlooking the city street. Carolina BBQ Pork on pancakes was a nice twist and the GA Shrimp and Grits was a comfort touch. Finished with the burger which melted—it was amazing. Took a little longer to get an extra like for my drink and the final check was about a 20 minute wait (only reason for 4 stars on service). But nothing that would prevent a return visit.
Brunch was delightful!
Waitress was very nice Tall chairs were shaky and scary to sit in
In the past, I have had great experiences at this restaurant but during my recent visit for Sunday brunch the service was not outstanding, they no longer had live music, and we waited 30 minutes after checking to be seated even though we had a reservation and a table was ready.
Food was a bit bland. Overall it was ok
Food was solid. However the service experience was terrible. Dishes came out one at a time spread over an hour and a half for 8 ppl! Several were wrong and all were only room temperature when they came out. We ended up canceling dishes because it took so long and was so poorly managed. Manager tried to rectify at end, but was too late by then.
This was the first time my fiancé and I visited the restaurant. Our waiter provided excellent service and explained the menu and options very well. The food was excellent and we’ll definitely return again!
Atmosphere was very energetic. Little bit loud. Drinks were super. Service very good. Food lousy. I would go for pre- or post-dinner drinks.
Too loud to even have dinner conversations with the whole table. Only option was to talk to the 3 people near you. Food was just ok. Cocktails and wine were great. Waitress super attentive.
It’s a cute date night spot but the food is average. We had the fried chicken and it wasn’t really seasoned and some of my brussel sprouts were burnt. I think people go there because of the ambiance.
Not a great experience... food less than average, long wait, cold food, my friend got hers while I was still waiting for mine, got ketchup with fries while asked for mayo...
Good!! Typical southern food, good service
Good was outstanding! Especially the ribs and mac&cheese were the best ever! And the wide menu for whiskey. Had an amazing experience.
Food and atmosphere were wonderful!
Service was very attentive.
Will DEFINITELY be back
We had small plates as there were only 6 items on the dinner menu. Not a bad thing though. Sweet potato hash and deviled eggs and Mac and cheese were awesome. Good drinks as well.
Food was cold and overpriced. Would not return here for brunch
I changed reservation from 11 to 7 and I did show up as expected. The food was good, however my fried chicken was a bit dry and the first waffle was swimming in syrup.
I booked a reservation for a New Year’s
Eve brunch, expecting their awesome brunch menu. It stated their brunch hours on the site, so I figured it’d be the same on NYE since it didn’t state otherwise. We came in on NYE during the brunch hours & they said they weren’t serving brunch. I was super confused because the website advertised their NYE lunch/dinner menu starting @4, but said nothing about them not serving brunch during their typical brunch hours, which we were there for. I just think that could’ve been communicated better on all social platforms, including their site. We decided to leave because the menu options were sooo minimal. I typically love SG, but this visit was disappointing. I just recommend calling to confirm before booking online!
Great food and atmosphere
After enjoying Sunday brunch at SG a couple of times before, we were disappointed by this visit.
1. Food- quality was not “wow” as experienced before. Brunch gumbo had 3 medium sized shrimp (1 seemed old) and zero oysters (both are described on the menu). Broth was thin.
2. Service- ordered deviled eggs garnished with trout as an appetizer, but they didn’t appear until well after the main course. The server was apologetic and removed the item from the final bill (Note: neither my wife or I felt that the deviled egged were very good).
3. Unless you want to pay for an expensive valet, self-parking is now about 2 blocks away in another garage. It used to be in the adjacent garage, but apparently valet has claimed those spots.
On a positive note, the bloody Mary’s were very good, complete with bacon, and the mimosa was tasty.
Birthday! Waiter was perfect
The manager and the server were awesome. The food was subpar for the quality and quantity
Never disappointed. Great food although menu is limited.
The food and service was excellent. We will definitely go back again for brunch.
We have brunch here twice a month and love it!!
For the price, there should be more dinner selections and real menus, not paper menus
Great food (we loved the shrimp & grits and the mussels). A lot of different whiskeys from all around the world as well as local ones.
Great environment and service. Food was average and did not reflect the pricing.
This was a very disappointing visit. We came with another couple to have dessert and drinks. The service was terrible. Our server seemed to be super frustrated by other large parties, and was disengaged with us. He even said that "it's been a weird night" and you could tell he was just going through the motions. We ordered drinks. I ordered a drink that they were "out of the puree", it was only 9pm. I chose a nother drink. the drinks were okay, not what we usually get when we go to Southern Gentleman . Then I ordered Chess Pie for dessert. Again, my dessert was not available. He recommended I order any of the other desserts. No real recommendation, just pick another one. I selected Banana pudding, my husband ordered the sweet potato pie, and my friends ordered the bread pudding. The pie and pudding came out first. Mine was completely forgotten. The pie was burnt, and you could tell it wasn't right. My husband picked at it and ate what he could. The bread pudding tasted like french toast. It had a strange consistency. My banana pudding came out about 15 minutes after everyone else's dessert. it was a glass jar full of whipped cream, one small slice of RAW banana, and some graham cracker crumbles at the bottom. It was terrible. I literally got a jar full of whipped cream. Why didn't I send anything back? well, the server would have to actually come check on us from time to time to do that. He hardly came by. He also seemed to be in a HUGE rush the entire time. We quickly paid and left. I will not come back to this restaurant again.
The service was a little disappointing due to having 3 different servers and the fried chicken lacked flavor.
We had brunch here. It was fantastic, great drink choices. The cinnamon roll to start (must have). Fried chicken and skillet pancake was one of the best brunch meals I have had. Wife had the sweet potato cheddar biscuit, and of course I had to try it, also very good. Lastly the service was excellent and the manager even stopped by to make sure we had a great experience. Top notch!
We were the only ones there - and they had run out of 2 of the 5 entrees?! And one of my dishes had no taste.
Most of the things we ordered they ran out of so went to the restaurant next door to bring us food. The fried chicken was bland, the service was fine and the space we had was great.
Food was just ok wife got the rib plate it was cooked well but had no flavor they for got to ad salt
And for 36 dollers for just the rib plate they could hav added salt !
I wouldn’t recommend it because it was so loud that we struggled to hear each other at a small table for two. Otherwise, the ambiance was very nice, the food was very good and our server was excellent.
We had dinner and drinks here for my friend's 40th Birthday. Reservations were easy to make, parking is really convenient, and getting to the restaurant from the parking garage is simple, too. We did note in the reservation that we'd prefer a booth and sort of had to make a point of it when we got there. There were a couple of parties going on, so I understood that some shuffling was probably necessary, but one of our party has back issues and cannot sit at high top tables. Fair warning, there is no extra space between you and the table. It is not easy to get comfortable in the booths if you have a party of 4.
The food and drink quality was pretty good for the price. I can wholeheartedly recommend the pimento cheese, the skillet mac and cheese, the greens, and the Old Fashioned. All were very good. One of our party had the hamburger and she said it was very good as well. That said, if you're going to have fried chicken on the menu in the South, it better be amazing...and theirs just isn't. I think they have some work to do with the food running/delivery aspect. My food was so hot I couldn't dig in right away (sad, but manageable), another of our party had to send her food back because it was cold (the kitchen remedied it very, very quickly), and the food of another of our party took an additional few minutes to come out. It just seemed like there were too many people looking for something to do and the kitchen was slammed because of two separate Christmas parties.
Bottom line: would I go back? Yeah, I would. I might not try to order dinner, but the drinks came fast and were very good, but I might order food exclusively off the appetizer and small plate menu instead of ordering a meal.
Fun night out with dinner and drinks.
Food and service has slipped from the last time we went there. So overall I am dropping the review from 5 to 4 stars at best.
Appetizers were amazing, burger and fried chicken were not. :-(
Ideal place for date night- the service was top notch, food was excellent, drink menu superb. Table side recommendation for whiskey from Alex did not disappoint. Take the time to visit!
