The Southern Gentleman
The gorgeous top floor space in Buckhead Atlanta was designed by New York’s Lacina Heitler, and features classic, Southern touches done in surprising, modern ways: seersucker window treatments, tufted camel leather booths, vintage plateware, white marble countertops, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, dramatic chandeliers, complete with an oversized portrait of Mark Twain painted by a commissioned local artist.

The drinks were great. A little pricey. but what you'd expect from a whiskey bar. However, the single pours for whiskey are crazy. Ranging from $12 - 100+ for a single two-ounce pour. I am sure its fantastic Whiskey. But I cannot imagine their profit margins there.
The food was alright. We ordered the Deviled Eggs (fantastic) and The Fried Green Tomatoes. The Tomatoes were over fried. Almost hard. But the flavor of the "spicy" sauce on them was amazing. Also, we got four small slices. On their Yelp page, it looks like you get good sized slices. And there are 6 tomatoes per order. Not sure what happened there. The four Deviled Eggs were worth the $7 price. I would not get the tomatoes again. Not worth the money. It felt like we got two appetizers from two different places. The eggs felt very well prepped. And the tomatoes seemed like a chilis appetizer.
For the main, I had the Fried Chicken ($22) with Greens and Mac and cheese. The fried chicken was GREAT. Very moist and well seasoned. The greens were also great. It was my first time ever having Collard Greens. And I really enjoyed it. The mac and cheese tasted very generic. It was definitely homemade. But, like the Fried Green Tomatoes, it felt like an afterthought. The dish came with a small side of honey (didn't try) and a small side of spicy sauce. The sauce was awesome. But too spicy for me. I am a baby when it comes to spice though. There was a TINY biscuit with the meal that I am convinced was leftover from the Brunch rush. It was stale and cold. Definitely not made fresh with the meal or even in the couple hours before we arrived. Overall, the meal was not worth $22.
Total ticket for my wife and I was $115 before tip. That included three Drinks, an app, two main courses and she got a dessert. Taking out the $45 in drinks. $70 for the two entrees, app and dessert is not terrible for the type of restaurant. But I would not go back for food. But I would return for Drinks.
Horrible dining experience. Ruined my mother’s Easter lunch.
Easter. Thought there was a buffet today. Menu was the regular brunch menu.
Food was not tasty...service was slow, and we had to sit outside in chilly weather
Menu changed. Would like to see the waffle come back along with the collard greens.
Great ambiance. Food and drinks were on point. Geat date night spot. I would definitely recommend this place and I'll be dining again.
Seated on time. The server seemed like she had too many tables. It was hard to get her attention, even when she was walking by or helping an adjacent table. I did not get what I ordered and after the food was delivered, the server did not check on us for 15 minutes. The burger was pretty, but average. The trout with hoppin' john was very good, as were all of the small bites and apps. I think that this would be a good place for after-work drinks and snacks.
Really disappointed with everything this trip.
Amazing service and food
The brunch menu was DELIGHTFUL!
Everything was great! I did take us a while to find the actual restaurant, but once inside it was excellent!
Three of had lunch. Our waiter was nice but forgot what we ordered twice and had to come back to ask. The drinks were delivered by a different server and placed in the wrong places, and one was completely wrong and had to be returned and reordered. My husband's hamburger which he ordered without a bun came with a bun. Overall a disappointment.
The service was wonderful the food south of mediocre. Go for the drinks, eat elsewhere.
Everything was great. We sat on the patio. We were quickly greeted by each of our servers. We ordered immediately. The food was better than we expected. This will definitely be one of my new spots
Fabulous for food and drinks. The views are awesome. A great place to meet friends.
We chose to eat at TSG for a friend’s birthday since the ambiance seemed so nice and the menu looked tasty. The small plates we ordered (Brussels sprouts and deviled eggs) were very good so we had high hopes for the entrees. Our hopes were quickly dashed. My friend’s burger was over cooked and the re-fire took longer than the original. I had the beef rib and it was obviously boiled in addition to being terribly bland. I’m almost positive that our server was new, so I won’t detail his shortcomings.
We started at the bar and had a great experience with the bartender while we waited for our table and other guests. Once we got to the table our waiter kept forgetting our requests and had to be reminded multiple times. Our entrees were not great, the manager came over and apologized and comp'd them. We were celebrating a friends birthday and I made note of that in the reservation and called the restaurant to make sure they had that info and had something special they did. There was no acknowledgment of the birthday. Her entree was mixed up with another person's at our table cold when it got to her and by the time it was redone, everyone else had finished their food. The 6 of us left very dissatisfied. Not a great experience at all.
Food was great but service was horrible. Our server wrote down our order and still got it wrong. Our appitizers and entrees arrived at the same time. Drinks took forever and once they finally came they were wrong as well. I’m still willing to give this place another try.
We had a very nice brunch on Saturday morning at The Southern Gentleman. Our host seated us on the patio which is perfect for a spring morning! My husband and daughter both ordered a Bloody Mary which they thought was very tasty. My choice drink, listed in the menu as “The Stallion” was unavailable however our server said the bartender could substitute it with something similar. It was my only disappointment-hoping to have a coffee drink with kahlua and a hint of bourbon, it was predominantly bourbon with a hint of coffee. Our meal however was excellent! We look forward to eating at The Southern Gentleman again.
The food is very inconsistent. I have had very good food previously. The hummus came in jar and was so cold I needed a knife to dig it out and the oil had completely separated from the paste. It was very unappetizing. There were 3 small carrot sticks and 3 small celery sticks. There were cut radishes that even if the hummus was tasty you would have never been able to dip or penetrate the hard paste with. The mac & cheeses was grainy and tasted like it came out of a box. The salad ingredients described on the menu were nonexistent. When asked by the waitress if my food was great, I replied no and that it was disappointing. She shrugged her shoulders and left. I won’t be back unfortunately. It’s too expensive to waste this kind of money.
Our server John was the best.
WOW! Incredible! From the Mint Julep to The Bourbon Glazed and all in between Pecan Pie. The service was incredible also.
Enjoyed this dining experience. It was a very good birthday celebration.
Our server Amanda was awesome. Very in tune with everything on the menu and was attentive but wasn't over bearing. Great place for a business lunch meeting.
We enjoyed both the food and the service. Thank you very much! We also enjoyed the chicken so much that we all thought it would have been great to have a whole wing as an appetizer. 6 whole wings on a plate? What do you think? 🙂
I tried Southern Gentleman for Sunday brunch and I was definitely pleased! I placed a reservation because I knew the restaurant would be bustling, and when I arrived my party and I were promptly seated and attended to by very courteous staff members. The menu selection was amazing and our waiter gave us excellent recommendations. The skillet cinnamon roll! That’s all I have to say! I broke my diet for it and I regret absolutely NOTHING! The entrees were delicious and the drinks were amazing. The venue is very bright, modern, and inviting. Definitely will be coming back!
My girlfriend and I had Brunch on Sunday. The bread basket was delicious. And the chicken and pancake was amazing! The mimosas were good as well. Loved sitting outside. Service was great. Definitely will be back they has so many good choices on the menu.
First time in Atl so glad I went here. Everytime was great
Really busy, had to wait 20 -30 minutes to get seated. The waiter was great, however overwhelmed with the business.
The restaurant has good views and location, given the limited menu I expected each entree to be right on point; that wasn't the case. I tried the Upside Down cocktail, TSG Burger and fried chicken.
The cocktail was ok with a good fruity taste.
The burger was very average in taste and greasier than expected.
The fried chicken was a big disappointment, the breading came right off and the chicken was too dry, I definitely don't recommend.
Overall, the hostess was very nice, but I noticed a decline in service from the waiter after our food came out and towards the end of our experience, I wanted to try a second cocktail but he didn't even bother to check on that. I wanted to love the place, but for the price I wouldn't be willing to give it a second chance, so keep these points in mind if you're thinking of trying this place out. Needless to say, I won't be coming back.
Great vibe, excellent service, super-awesome hostess, good food (the deviled eggs were really yummy), a little pricey.
Great service, clean environment and good drinks! Food was not so good.
Where do I begin? First, I had such high hopes for S.G. as it comes highly recommended by my fellow foodie friends. To my dismay, my guests and I had a horrible experience. First we were sat in a booth that was far too close to the kitchen. We could literally feel the heat. There was lots of chaos about incorrect orders. I do not enjoy access to behind the scenes dealings while dining out. We would have stayed home if we wanted all access to the kitchen. Next, they “made” a table to switch us to. Apparently, two smaller tables were put together to accommodate our small party of three. There were other booths and high tops a available. I cannot fathom why they had to rearrange tables to accommodate. Moving along, our server was incompetent to say the least. He had terrible people skills, was slow and forgetful, was slightly unkempt, and the list goes on. The cocktails were the silver lining. At least they were great. Conversely, the food was inconsistent. The fried green tomorrow were a tasteless waste of time. The deviled eggs were divine. The shrimp and grits were tasty. The Brussel sprouts were cold (both orders). The fried chicken was good until I sliced into my undercooked wing. At that point, we were all ready to end the experience. I cannot say that so will give this place another try. I truly expected more.
Best service hands down! Food was delivered fast! We ordered drinks the Gin pack of mules is AMAZING!! Picked green tomatoes had such a great flavor! The Mac an cheese was so creamy and tasty! We ordered the devil eggs that smoked flavor was everything! For dinner we ordered the fried chicken, The burger and the rainbow trout! Our server was Shawn and he was VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE! he treated us so nicely and he was a joy to be around!
The food was really good. It was loud inside, so we ate in a covered outdoor area. Service was also good. We would eat here again.
Winter Kale Salad, Deviled Eggs, GA Shrimp and Grits, Mussels, Carolina Pulled Pork, Skillet Mac N’Cheese, Chocolate Chess Pie, Sweet Potato Bourbon Pecan Pie, the Belle Meade flight, and the TSG House Old Fashioned...outstanding food and very attentive lively staff. We were even invited to try some whiskies and bourbons new to us...delicious.
Overall wonderful experience. The only thing I wouldn’t order again is the kale salad, just because it wasn’t my jam...I’m kicking myself for not ordering another piece of the Chess pie to take back to our hotel for breakfast with my coffee!
My server was Amy . She was fantastic . She suggested my drink which I forgot the name to but it was whiskey and mint simple syrup . I had the steak which the temperature was perfect and my fiancé had the fried chicken . The Brussels sprouts was great
We were there early in the evening on a beautiful spring Sunday. It took a while for the hostess to seat us, but because it wasn’t crowded, we were able to pretty much choose where we sat. We chose S G because it looked like a good menu. We ordered martinis and the chicken liver mousse with the huckleberry jame. It was exceptional, but we would have liked a little more bread with it.
My husband ordered the vegetarian plate. Our server tried to warn him that it was A LOT OF CAULIFLOWER, and he said that was fine, but he wasn’t prepared for an entire head of cauliflower when it was delivered to the table. Our corner of the restaurant showed their amusement by laughing. We laughed too, but there was no way one person could eat that huge thing, although the server said he once saw someone do it. My husband liked it, and was definitely full by the end of the meal.
I ordered the small plate shrimp and grits, which had really good grilled shrimp, but so-so sauce on the grits, which themselves were very good quality and flavorful. I also had the collards, which were the best I’ve ever had in Atlanta . That’s saying a lot, too. I would have loved a big piece of corn bread with them, or maybe a corn pone. Just delicious!
We had a really nice evening at The Southern Gentleman, and I would definitely recommend it, and plan to return.
The Southern Gentleman experience was excellent. EVERY part of our meal was excellent and our server was helpful.
The atmosphere is moderate and great for a first date. The quality of the food is excellent. The buttermilk fried chicken & skillet pancakes are damn good. Other plate that recommend is the Pan Purdue French Toast, also damn good, even is you want to eat something moderate the French toast is a good option.
