We found the staff very knowledgeable and eager to be of assistance in making choices among possible selections. The menu is original and not overwhelming, which makes it easy to find items of interest that are somewhat out of mundane. In this case the squash soup appetizer, lamb chops, and sorbets were superb. Other choices were very good as well, but not quite as memorable. The prices are high enough to limit this to a special occasion site for us where we can expect to well served with a variety of choices that will make add to the occasion.
We were there for lunch on a quiet day, and thoroughly enjoyed the food, the friendly service, and the spacious atmosphere.
The Source is a winner. This was our second visit. The place is hopping and the food is excellent.
We loved The Source. The Newseum is great, too!
The Source provided the perfect combination of good food and a comfortable, trendy atmosphere. The tuna tartare was delicious and I also enjoyed the homemade cookies for dessert. This trendy restaurant is a MUST for special occasions!
The food from the prix fixe lunch menu was nice, but not overly memorable.
The restaurant was nice and the food was EXCELLENT! I would definite recommend this restaurant to friends. I will also be back to dine at the source!
Dinner was amazing! Classic Rock in the dining room didn't match atmosphere and decor (and it was a bit loud), but the attentive service and incredible food made it not matter. (just an observation)
Highly recommend it and will be visiting often.
The Washingtonian rates The Source as the #3 restaurant in the city, but I don't buy it. The food is good, but not great and the noise level is so loud there's no possible way to carry on a conversation. The restaurant charges like it's one of the top restaurants in the city though, but it's definitely not worth the price of admission. I've eaten at The Source a few times now and feel no need to ever return.
While the food was good, the servings were small. You are paying for the ambiance and Wolfgang Puck's celebrity. The chocolate souffle was the stand-out.
We had dinner on New Year's Day evening - so downtown D.C. and The Source were almost deserted. We ate upstairs but the downstairs lounge/bar has a nice vibe too. The food was terrific! Four of us ordered a variety of appetizers to share as well as entrees and a couple of deserts. Everything was good. I would definitely go again.
Service was good, food was okay. Spent over $300 for tasting menu and wine and left feeling somewhat hungry. Portions were very small. We were also ushered through our meal very quickly. We will probably not go back.
Food portions were very tiny compared to the large prices you paid. The restaurant presents a very minimilast approach towards the food, and decor. The unusual aspect of the entire evening, for such a high end fancy restaurant they played top 40 music throughout, it just didnt fit.
We had a fabulous dinner at The Source. While a little pricy, the food was well worth it! The service was great and we would definitely go back again!!
The dining experience was excellent. Our waiter was very good and very pleasant without being pushy.
Even the valet parking guy was most helpful and nice.

Elegant dining with a creative menu
Unfortunately.... over rated and high priced. The main courses were not particularly appealing so we tried combos of appetizers as main courses. Squash soup was a good bet..but others were just fair. Dumplings lacked flavor and the crab cakes had more filling than crab.
Chicken salad was your everyday chain variety. Dessert was also disappointing. With indifferent service and high prices, you can do much better in DC. Other than lending his name, Wolfgang seemed to have checked out.
Fantastic! We had the special Christmas Eve menu, and everything was served family style for our party of five. It even lived up to the expectations of two guests from NYC who are serious foodies. Moreover, the service matched the food.
Best food I've eaten in DC in a long time.
The Christmas Eve "family style" Chinese banquet was one of the best meals we have had in Washington. A wonderful variety of dishes with superb sauces. And the service was excellent. A great introduction to a great restaurant.
Some of the best food I have ever eaten!
Fantastic food and great service. The cocktails are very good. The only complaint we have is that later in the evening, the upstairs dining room empties out and you can hear the music from the bar and the music in the restaurant (different songs) at the same time. It's a little annoying.
We gave the service only three stars as th waiter neglected to inform us of the dinner specials. Other wise, the service was very good.
Everything was very good, but bring an extra arm and leg because that is what it will cost you.
waiter was great, food delicious
Have only eaten at restaurant for lunch and it was terrific
The Source is delicious with entrees that have multiple layers of flavors. Consistently very good.
Great service and wine list. Food is consistently good!
They ran out of the "evening special" , a lobster, before 8pm, which is what I had wanted. The service was not good, I'd try it again though, the food was good!
I had the scallops which were could to perfection but the peanut coconutsauce had zero flavor. We also had the warm chocolate cake, which was basically a lava cake that I have eaten with my grandmother at Applebee's. My husband had the porkchop which was delicious and cooked perfectly. The drunken noodles were good. The suckling pig appetizer was bland. We had to constantly flag down our waiter to refill our water and get drinks. We had been looking forward to eating at "the source" but were overall disappointed.
If you can deal with a large number of intoxicated and loud women screaming, yelling and cackling after one too many martinis, you can enjoy some pretty good asian fusion food. It's likely, however, that you will be able to find comparable dumplings and entrees at a nice chinese restaurant. The porkbelly dumpling were quite good, as were the organic chicken dumplings, though the latter were a bit heavy on the salt. The pork chop was cooked medium-rare, which was fine, but others should be aware. The whole sea bass was crispy and crunchy, and served with two types of sauce, but at $40, I couldn't help thinking that I wasn't getting my money's worth. Felt like I was paying a huge premium for the outstanding service, not the food.
excellent experience and the food was excellent. Highly recommended
Good food served in a friendly and interesting way. Excellent choice for lunch or dinner if you are downtown.
Excellent food and service and very accommodating to special requests. Somewhat pricey but the food was definitely worth it. Very vibrant but, for the 50+ crowd, the noise level was probably a little high. I suspect the same may be said for a romantic night out....unless the couple just want fabulous food and to stare into each other's eyes without talking. Definitely worth a visit.
Worth the money! We waited for our appetizer (not that we noticed) and the chef sent out a "taste" for us while we waited. That was unexpected and very much appreciated. The food was beyond wonderful. An overall great experience.
Pros and cons, but overall very good. As our table was right next to the stairs leading to the noisy bar, I had trouble hearing the server when he spoke. Service was slightly slow at first, as they were quite busy, but after that it picked up nicely. I wished they'd had vegetarian items actually on the menu, but instead one had to ask. The veg appetizers -vegetables in sesame miso cones - were full of flavor. However, I was glad that I eat seafood occasionally because the veg. special(rice with vegetables)sounded unimaginative and blah, not what one would hope for at such a spot. I had the Assam Prawns which were delicious, though kind of lukewarm. I really liked the ambience and the lighting - soft but not too dark. V. nice wines as well.
Food was nothing special....the food is not worth the price tag. the service was slow, and the restuarant wasn't even full. they brought the wrong dessert.
The service, presentation, wine list, and the ambiance were wonderful but the flavor was a letdown. It was inferior to the quality I experienced in May, 2009. It was still very good but that is a downgrade from my earlier rating.
Pretentious with rather slow and robotic service
I've been to The Source a few times and the food is always as good as the last time I was there. I tend to go for the price fixed lunch because I like the quality and quantity of food for the price.
