I’m not usually a sauce girl, but this restaurant does it right. Each sauce was perfectly curated to the array of dumplings we ordered but tasty enough to mix and find new pairings. A fun experience for our Valentines Day!
had annual lunch date - we always go here and we both thought food was off this time. Not as good as usual.
My wife, who is Taiwanese, says that this is really a Taiwanese restaurant. Otherwise, we would call it the best Chinese restaurant in the DC area (sorry, Peter Chang!). The dishes are subtle and sophisticated, rather than fried and overwhelmingly spicy. For the appetizers, the wontons and lobster spring rolls were great. We had the full duck for the main course, and while it may not have been as large as the "show duck" that they bring around before cooking, it was nevertheless large enough that we had to take the leftovers home. Also, a shout out for their cocktails, which are outstanding. The "Bullet in the Head" is so good that I tried to reverse engineer it at home.
It was my birthday and I had a wonderful time.
This was an incredible dining experience. We will be back again, and for every important event from here on out!
We had a wonderful lunch on Saturday. It has to be the best kept secret of Washington's restaurant scene. Excellent service and wonderful food.
The source if our favorite restaurant in DC, the food is delicious and best serviced, Jorge Martinez has been housing us an dour guest for the last 3 years and he add a tremendous value to the restaurant
The source is the most underrated restaurant in dc. The food has tremendous sophistication, is served with panache, and what’s more-it’s delicious. The cocktails are among the best in dc, too.
Took a client here...dumpling sample special was delicious and unique! Chef made 5 dumplings (1 for each guest) and it was wonderful eating and talking about our favorite dumplings. We each then ordered our own entree. Chef also brought out warm chive rolls before the dumpling appetizer. Nice option to a traditional client steak house meal.
Went here for a late happy hour / early dinner. They have changed a bit since the last visit. They had lounge seats in the bar area which they now use for regular seating. It greatly reduces the bar area, especially since they have also closed the second floor of the restaurant. We did sit in seating in the bar area. The service was good. They did have oysters, which were no long on the menu. The menu was also abbreviated, as they were in the slow season and their menu does rotate. We had a few of the small item which were good as the quality and menu execution is still great. I will check back in at some point to see if their menu expands back to the variety that it had.
The Source has changed its lunch menu to be far less attractive. The new menu has limited choices, high prices for what you receive, and slow kitchen service. I would not recommend it for lunch, when previously I would highly recommend and regularly frequent it.
We've been to the Source probably two dozen times over the years. Every time we go we are treated to superb service (the staff is the best in DC; Jorge in particular always makes the evening special) and excellent food. Always something new to try as well as plenty of reliably great classic Source dishes. The wine and cocktail list is great; staff is extremely knowledgeable about both (and appropriate pairings). Great location, great ambiance, always a great night out.
PS the Saturday dim sum brunch is a DC treasure.
Wow, talk about mailing it in...we went for NYE and it was a huge letdown. We know a holiday reservation can be dicey but the effort put into this experience by the team at the Source was so shockingly low. I am removing The Source as one of my go-to DC restaurants. The servers could not describe the food as it was presented nor did they have a clue about the wine pairing. Plates were removed quickly and water was refilled but there was absolutely no engagement with us other than the barest minimum. When plates were clearly not enjoyed, nothing was said or mentioned ...just took the plate and moved on to the next course. The overall quality was fine but the effort placed in the dishes was the barest of minimums; the scallops might have taken the most time for preparation. If I were to read this location was closing along with the Newseum; I cannot say I would be surprised. Our last several dining experiences here have always been solid; NYE was a huge disappointment. You are not supposed to get in the Uber and laugh at just how terribly a +$400 meal went for 2 people. Will not return; Fiola will get my downtown DC dining reservations for the future.
We dined for lunch on NYE, celebrating our courthouse wedding date and a visit to the Newseum on their closing day.
I noted our special occasion in the reservation notes, and while the hostess mentioned it upon our arrival, we were seated at the least private table in the restaurant. Big disappointment, as the couple sitting next to us in the banquette, facing directly at us was dressed very casually and talking loudly about their New Years plans. Not a great environment to celebrate having just been married.
Our server knew nothing about our occasion and was not very attentive at all throughout service. We consistently waited long lengths of time for basic things, and settled on a bottle of wine instead of having to flag him down constantly for cocktails.
The food was amazing as usual, and did not disappoint, but overall, the front of house was extremely lackluster.
Overall, we love the restaurant, but this situation left a bad taste on one of the happiest days for us.
Please do not put your hands in the rice when serving to patrons.
We did not have the best table in the house, but that’s because we made our reservations earlier that same day. That was our fault, not the restaurants. That we even got into a place with this level of service and outstanding cuisine, on such short notice was our great fortune. Perhaps it was the post holiday slump, but whatever the reason, the restaurant was still fully on game. The three of us shared a variety of Asian inspired appetizers as starters, followed by the duck. Everything was crazy good. The staff must have felt pity on our having a corner seat and comped us a chocolate soufflé. It was an all-around great evening. Next time I’ll be more timely on making reservations.
Upscale Asian dining, cozy ambiance with lighting to make everyone look amazing and Shazam-worthy lounge music. Service was seamless. Unique, Asian themed cocktails. Unable to choose just one app to share, we opted for several apps and dumplings, and shared an entree. Relaxing and delightful post-holiday date night!
Excellent innovative Asian cuisine in a hip, comfortable atmosphere adjacent to all of the tourist sites Pennsylvania Avenue has to offer. The Source offers a nice respite from touring without having a heavy meal. The prices are also quite reasonable.
Had just appetizers/small plates, all of which were very good. Shrimp and Carrot dumplings were favorites. Salad could have used some pizzazz.
Well priced food n perfect portions . Service was excellent, we had a great date night
An excellent experience. We had a wonderful holiday get-together and lunch. The cocktails and food were fabulous and the service excellent.
I ordered the Hampshire Pork Belly Dump!ings but I'm pretty sure I got the Organic Chicken Wontons in error, because it was covered in Cilantro. Either way the dough was too think and chewy. The Tuna Tartare was very nice.
The outstanding g taste was the Fragrant Chili Oil Poached Flounder! It was very good; the best thing I've had in a long time! The other nice dish was the Hong Kong style King Salmon; my wife was very happy.
Needless to say the cookies at dessert were fabulous!
Very noisy but excellent food and service
Duck was very special.
Only drawback is it was very crowded and tables were right on top of each other had to get up tp let someone at next table get up.
I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at this restaurant. The service was very attentive. The ambiance is nice but not cozy (it's a little on the corporate side), and it can be loud. The food is superb. I had cabbage and pork dumplings, Impossible potstickers, noodles and chocolate souffle for dessert. All were amazing!
Perfect for a group celebration or special night out. Share everything except your custom cocktail!
The food was generous and excellent in quality. The tables are too close together. Tempura Tuna and Dumpling collection (one wrapper was dry)
We love dunking at The Source. The food is consistently delicious and best of all the service is the best in DC. It is wipes class. Want to highlight that the service at this restaurant ja outstanding and the main reason we return. We consider Jorge Martinez makes ia feel at home., he is very professional , attentive and provides superb advice. Encourage anyone to go. We always invite special guests and everyone has been presently surprised. Great foos and outstanding service. .
This is a fantastic restaurant that serves very original Asian fusion cuisine. The food is always fresh and delicious and the wait staff are terrific. It is a lovely ambience as well.
I’ve been to The Source over a dozen times and it continues to be one of my very favorite restaurants! We started our evening at the sleek bar downstairs and I tried the bourbon drink and it was delicious! My mom and husband both enjoyed the pear drink.
Once seated we started with our favorite appetizers, the tuna cones and the dumplings. My absolute favorite dumplings are the shrimp and pork. We also had the Pinot they recommended and we liked it so much that we bought some the next day.
I love all the food but I do think this may have been one of our best orders to date..for our entree my husband and I split the filet, crab rice and vegetable stir fry and all was delicious!!
For dessert my favorites are the carrot cake and cookies always! The service was also wonderful and our waiter Jorge was knowledgeable and charming and definitely was apart of making our evening a huge success! We will be back soon!
I thought the food was subpar for all the hype. We had a horrendous table right next to the bathrooms and kitchen. Had to look both ways to avoid getting run over by staff when going to the restroom. Ambiance was ok. Not as great as written about online. All in all I'd say skip it and go somewhere else.
Went for birthday. Phenomenal service.
I love this restaurant. I would recommend going to anyone looking for a place with excellent food, fantastic service and beautiful ambiance. It is pricey but good things are worth the money.
Superb service. Excellent duck. Amazing overall. The drunken noodles were smoky and delicious
Get the tuna cones and the duck for two. The duck is a thing of beauty. It can serve 3 if you have a starter.
Some of the best food I've had in a long time! Everyone thing was so flavorful without being overwhelming
We had multiple items and shared and they were all very flavorful, some had a spicy kick but not unreasonably hot. We had a vegetarian in the group and there was plenty on the menu to choose from. Wine list was great. Cookies were not a hit but we don’t prefer chocolate chip cookies that are crispy/ use shortening. Service was fabulous and it was nice to be able to hear each other speak.
Dim sum brunch was delicious!
Great service and delicious food.
Beautifully done Asian cuisine with an elegant ambiance and extremely friendly and attentive service.
