Had dinner here during restaurant week. Big mistake! This is first restaurant that I've been to where none of the dishes on the restaurant week menu are on the regular menu. On top of that, the portions were tiny. I ended up having to order an extra dish for each guest off of the regular menu just to ensure we didn't leave there hungry. This is my first and last time to this restaurant. Totally not worth it given all the good restaurants in DC especially during restaurant week.
Warm greeting by the hostess and were seated immediately, even though we were a half hour early. She seemed pleased that we were early. Our server Jorge was friendly and helpful. He was also very attentive as was the water server. My spouse and I chose from the Restaurant Week list ($35). Vegetable sushi rolls to start, which were nicely presented as well as delicious! 3 pieces each and our son helped us out. He got the Pei Pa Duckling ($32) from the main menu and enjoyed the flavors and portion size. I had the Kung Pao Beef and my wife the XO Chicken. Both were very well presented and tasty. For drinks I wanted the Sam Adams Summer Ale, but they were out so the Manager comped me the Ommegang Rosetta $(12), which was ironic because we live about an hour away from their Cooperstown Brewery. It was an interesting change from my normal craft brew selections, but I enjoyed it as it complimented my meal. Spouse chose the Pinot Grigio ($10) from a wide selection of wines. Jorge even refilled her glass, but we did not see a charge for a second glass on the bill. Son had two mini bottles of Coke at $3 each. Dessert choices on RW menu were Carrot Cake or Yuzu Pannacotta (sp?), we both chose the Carrot Cake (Superb!) and Jorge brought over a small Pannacotta (sp?) for my son with no charge. Overall an excelent experience.
Good vibe and the food was great. The service was outstanding and the right mix of diners made a pleasant dining experience.
The food tasted fabulous. Service was impeccable. Bring Restaurant Week it was a great value. Would definitely go again
Loved their restaurant week menu! Such a great deal, and the food is fantastic!
Fantastic service, and the dim sum brunch was as good as always. The restaurant even gave us a complimentary dessert and commemorative scroll for our anniversary.
we had a wonderful dinner with delicious food and wine.
Fantastic food! Would go back for dinner or happy hour.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable business dinner for nine on a stormy August evening. The table was well located for conversation among a large party. Great wine recommendations. The dumpling appetizer platter was creative and enjoyed by all. Entrees were perfectly cooked. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Looking forward to returning.
Fantastic food and service! The food was flavoursome and delicious- would highly recommend.
This is one of the best restaurants! The staff & food were top quality. Highly recommend the every course but especially the desserts.
Service was excellent. Do yourself a favor and order the whole roasted duckling. It came in two courses - not sure which we liked better as they were both outstanding.
We were visiting DC and the museums on the Mall, and when they started to close we went to the restaurant. The server was as cute and friendly and helpful and patient as anyone could be. We were tired from walking, having just toured the Newseum (the restaurant is in the same building), so we sat in the lounge rather than going upstairs to the dining room. But we ordered from the dining room menu. I can’t remember the name of the IPA I had, but it was quite good. The food was excellent, and I’m pretty particular, especially at these prices. I had a lamb stir-fry in a fabulous sauce with toasted cumin, crispy new potatoes, asparagus and cilantro. My wife had pork and cabbage dumplings and a very creative baby gem lettuce salad with cashews, various veggies and a lemon vinaigrette dressing. We shared organic chicken wontons, which also were delicious, as an appetizer. It was quite pricey, but we both thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
Great food!! One of my favorite places in DC for a very nice dinner. Will be back soon
Everyone was exceptionally welcoming and friendly! Our birthday “boy” was treated very well, indeed. Service, food and atmosphere were all top notch!!
everything was very good but i wouldn’t say as outstanding as the expectations were
Fantastic 7 course tasting meal that was well worth it.
I had been to the restaurant before, and loved it. This time I took my husband, and he was so impressed by the creativity of the preparation and serving of Asian food. We had dumplings--he had the salmon, and I the flounder--both dishes were delicious. Our server was super nice--we were sitting at a table under an air conditioner--it was cold--he moved us immediately. We got chocolate chip cookies to take home. We gave them to our friendly staff and we got a thank you saying that they were the best they ever had.
Food was excellent and so was service. Was quiet night and dining room quiet enough to actually have conversation - much appreciated. Don’t know if as quiet when full.
Great choice for our anniversary. Loved the food and service
Good food and excellent service
Exceptional food! Taste was great, presentation great but most of all I’m still Intrigued by the best chicken ever!! It was crunchy on the outside and juicy roasted inside.. WOW! The best ever!
The SOURCE was absolutely phenomenal. One of the best meals we have had. The service was impeccable. The wine pairing was superb. We tried the tasting menu and the wine pairing and our server elevated the experience by making the best choices of pairings for our meal. Very upscale and quiet for a romantic dinner for two or a double date. You will not regret this choice.
The food was exceptional. The service and atmosphere were very nice as well. I particularly liked that the food was so inventive with unique flavors. Our waiter was kind of enough to agree to let me halve an appetizer when I wanted only a smaller portion than was offered on the menu. This kind of "over and above" service makes The Source stand out! Highly recommend!
As always excellent service with attention to detail, professional wait staff and delicious food. Would definitely recommend. It's also a very nice spot for birthday celebrations from personalized menus to special treats.
Been here multiple times. Great food. Awesome service.
We had been looking forward to going to this restaurant for a long time. We finally decided to go last week and boy, what a disappointing experience. I will start with the two good things about the place. The ambiance was very nice and our server was warm and welcoming. Everything else was shockingly mediocre. There was a young lady who was serving us water. She must have been new, she looked so terrified, I felt sorry for her. We asked for water with no ice since the AC was turned on high and it was pretty cold. She kept on giving us water with ice until another server had to come help her out. When they brought the glass of water with no ice, there was hair in the water. After we were done with the appetizer, the poor girl came to take away our dishes. She held the chopsticks at the eating end then decided we might need them and put them down for us to use. The main entrees came around and oh dear, a take away asian place has tasted better. The chicken was super salty, and the duck was also not that great. We couldn't finish that food. For all the money we had to pay, this was not a good dining experience. When we got in at around 7:45PM, we were surprised at how empty it was for a Friday evening. Now I guess I know why.
I had them make a vegetarian meal with brown rice, tofu and vegetables. It was excellent.
We were visiting from Philadelphia (a city that has set the bar for food high) and looking for a relaxing dinner after a day of traveling and museums. The Source was the perfect end to our day! Happy hour drinks and food were great. We then moved to our reservation on the outdoor patio, which was mostly shaded from the evening sun. It was perfect. The service was absolutely top notch, and the food was delicious. We love sharing and trying multiple dishes, so the family style dishes were ideal for us. We had dumplings followed by the duck for two, which is served in two courses, and we are still drooling over the bao buns we were able to construct with all of the trappings. Thank you to The Source for a lovely evening! Would definitely come back if we are in DC again!
The hostesses and staff were very friendly and attentive. They answered or questions explained the dishes very well! The service was quick and the food was amazing and so flavorful! We had a wonderful time!
The Source has been a favorite restaurant of mine and my husband’s for a number of years. Within that time, we’ve gotten to know Executive Chefs and staff—all of whom have been absolutely wonderful, along with the imaginative culinary delights and top notch service. This visit was our first since Executive Chef JongJip came on board a few weeks ago, and we were thrilled to have had the same high quality dining experience as we’ve had with other ECs at the helm in the kitchen. We were there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Prior to our visit, I asked him what restaurant he wanted to go to for his birthday dinner celebration. He very quickly and unequivocally said, “The Source!” Thank you, The Source, for making our special occasion extra special by accommodating our vegan diet with a delicious four-course meal and providing excellent service. We love you all!!!
Did the “secret” nine course tasting menu. Was awesome.
The duck for two was delicious.
The shrimp & carrot dumplings were delicious.
The sushi was good but I've had better.
The creme brulee was different with blood orange and cardamom.
The wait staff was very attentive without being intrusive. Our waiter answered all questions completely and very politely. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food, wait staff (our wait staff was headed by Erica) were outstanding! Management made a point to come by the table as well. Just an overall outstanding experience.
Our party of 4 was looking for a quiet place to spend a couple hours after Jazz in the Garden. We had a few requirements. Walkable from the National Gallery Sculpture Garden. Beautiful ambience where we could talk at length. VERY good quality and outstanding dishes. Excellent wine selection. Creative cocktails. Stellar service. It just so happens that The Source fulfilled every single stipulation! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with joyful smiles, an offer to store our picnic baskets and blankets, immediately seated, and the service began with much attention to detail. Research on Yelp caused me to ask for the dumpling sampler. It was supreme! The presentation was pure art. I also requested sushi, not on the menu, but I was given 4 choices, and the dish was made as though a Japanese master resided in the kitchen! We will back next month after another visit to the National Gallery of Art.
Everything was top notch. The only reason for 4 stars was due to the length of time we waited for our food. The service was excellent. Great place, highly recommend for dates, business dinners, or special occasions.
AMAZING. One of my favorite places to eat. Impeccable service. Delicious food.
Outstanding as always, the food is perfect and the service is beyond any expectation, we go there weekly and have never been disappointed, each experience is better than the last
Love the staffs
