The food was amazing and service was perfect.
Everything was wonderful as usual though we were next to a large loud table and it was hard to hear. Since we were early it would have ben nicer to have been seated farther away.
Our first time to dine here and food was great! We will definitely come back. Customer service is on point! Excellent suggestions by Sean our server.
Great food, albeit a little pricey. Excellent atmosphere and friendly, competent staff. Been coming here for a few years and plan to return many times.
Delicious food, great service, fantastic ambience!! One of the best restaurants in San Diego!!!
The staff was great, food was delicious, wine was flowing! Will definitely add this into my regular rotation
Amazing service! Tasty food. Great ambience! Would certainly be coming back
Escargot, crispy octopus and duck fat truffle fries are excellent appetizers. Pork chop was massive and swordfish and pasta dishes were large. Everything was cooked perfectly and service was prompt without being overbearing. Would definitely go again. Reservations strongly recommended as the restaurant got very busy after 6:30pm.
Not a bad restaurant, just not one I would rush back to especially given the prices. Service and food was okay. The dessert was the best part of the meal and I did appreciate that they offered outdoor dining. Definitely not a restaurant for a vegetarian. I’d like to see more variety on the menu. The salmon on the menu was farm raised rather than wild which was disappointing.
Very loud girls drinking wine
The food was very good: had the mussels, lamb bolognese and wild mushroom pasta. Service was good. We sat outside.
Welcom back daughter
Americanized French, over seasoned and over priced
Amazing! Our server is name Sean and he was very helpful and gave us a lot of details about the dishes and told us about the specials and what his favorites were. Just completely amazing experience eating here. Staff was very polite and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed
Our server, Shawn, was particularly engaging and accommodating!! Great service!!
wish we had more space to eat . we had 6 people at a 4 people table sitting outside. But food is excellent
Amazing! The staff were so accommodating and friendly! The food was great too.
The poached pear salad had a very unique toasty and nutty flavor and the poached pears had a great texture and tasted nutmeggy and winey. The Crispy Spanish Octopus was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside served with a subtle creamy tomato sauce drizzled on the bottom with arugula- YUM!
The 1855 Oregon beef, apparently grass fed, was super soft and tender (medium rare) with truffle fries! I don't usually eat fried foods but made an exception this time. The Smoking Goat Bordeaux Rouge was a mellow compliment to the meal. Our server was well versed in the food being used which is always a plus. Could not believe we waited 5 years to try it out (as we live just down the hill). We will be back for sure!
Dinner was great - only complaint was store-bought croutons in the salad. However, we ordered the strawberry shortcake and, while the strawberries & ice cream were good, the cake was store bought, an Entenmann’s pound cake, my guess. Not good.
Great Service, amazing staff and the food is above the bar for sure. Alex and the staff's hospitality was a really nice way to have a date night and anniversary!! Thank you.
Overall good experience. I would return.
Too hot inside. Entire table was sweating throughout meal.
First the food was AMAZING. Only reason I would go back. Second paying $40 for a plate and I was able to see the kitchen and what it looked like and I am not impressed, many food handling errors...chef coats would also look better. The staff looked like chickens with their head cut off. Also had to find support for our own table. The lighting was terrible. Thank you.
Everything was awesome, especially the service. Thank you!
Waited over 30 minutes and no one came to take our order. So we left to a different restaurant. They also lost their liquor license so the menu needs to be updated. Only 4 drinks on the menus is unacceptable
What an amazing experience! My girlfriend and I went here on date night on a whim. The food was amazing!! We got the pork chop and the local swordfish. Both equally were cooked perfectly. We will definitely be coming back!
Food wasn’t that great. Mussels gave off a bad smell and over half weren’t opened but still had to pay for it.
Nice wines tho.
Amazing food , great service . Food took a bit to come out but it was worth it
Highly recommend the muscles , chicken and pork chop all amazing
Everything was absolutely delicious and well considered.
We had a great experience. The cuisine was great, good selection of wines. The only thing was that the entrees came when appetizers were not finished yet. So, if you’d like to take your time, ask your waiter to space the courses. Otherwise, service was very good and attentive and we had a great time there.
Great appetizers! We’ll be back.
Smoking Goat can be relied on for quality food. Service is friendly and competent. Great place.
I asked for a vegetable plate with mushrooms. I received broccolini almost raw and no mushrooms. I would think a restaurant w such a wonderful chef could have done better.
Great dinner with my boyfriend. We ate everything on the menu. So good.
I made dinner reservations for my wife and I to celebrate 15 years of marriage. The Smoking Goat provided a great vibe from the moment we turned direction to enter from the sidewalk. We were noticed and approached by the host with great energy, offered congratulations for our anniversary, and promptly seated. Our server was made aware of our celebration and maintained a super-friendly vibe all night never seeming rushed or distracted despite the many tables he looked to be taking care of. Each appetizer, entree, and dessert item was wonderfully balanced with a great care and developed flavor. Although my wife and I typically lean to what many would consider more “exotic” tastes, we will definitely go back to The Smoking Goat for tried and true classic techniques that produce amazing food. Again, compliments to the staff for maintaining a respectful, professional, friendly, and comfortable vibe without ever seeming stuffy or uptight.
The food was truly delicious but we were seated in the "covered" patio. It was noisy and I was frozen. Wasnt the atmosphere I had hoped for when I told them it was my anniversary. I would go back, request inside seating and I think it would be a much better experience
Great food! Service was confusing. We did not have a dedicated server, dishes didn’t all come out at once, a wine bucket was not provided for a bottle of champagne we purchased ahead of time for a special occasion. They finally offered a celebratory glass of champagne after we paid and were about to leave...
Great food, service, and experience. Would definitely go back!
It’s a great option for French fare. I ordered a glass of the Bordeaux Blanc, octopus to start, Scottish salmon for my main, and crème brûlée for dessert. Personally, I prefer to receive a few thinner pieces of octopus vs the one large piece that comes with the dish as it is very chewy once you get to the thick center. Also, the flavor fell a touch flat for me. A little salt goes a long way. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Loved the parsnip purée and the blistered tomatoes were a nice touch. Crème brûlée had great flavor, but wasn’t as smooth as I had hoped it would be. It was a touch gelatinous. Closer to a Panna cotta rather than yogurt texture. Overall, a great experience! Will definitely be back.
We’d never been. Server was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. He did take some time getting our order and bringing it back BUT it wasn’t bad. Management even came by and apologized for any delay. It really wasn’t an issue. Food was DELICIOUS. Had the escargot app, it was hot hot hot and so good. Just wish they gave us more bread to dunk into the buttery goodness leftover. I had the steak and frittes. It was juicy, easy to cut into, and just so good. Hubby ordered the biggest pork chop I’ve ever seen. Immediately regretted my delicious decision when I tasted his pork chop! The mashed potatoes were creamy and garlicky and the broccoli was crisp. We will lost definitely be back
My husband and I decided to treat yoself on a Friday night after a couple of super stressful weeks at work. The first time we happened into The Smoking Goat Restaurant was after I had gotten my hair did at my friend’s salon next door (The Keratin Shop). We LOVED it then. My husband particularly loved the duck fat truffle fries that came along with his 12 oz steak. I had the half chicken with potatoes and veggies which I loved. This time around we both got the steak and fries. The steak was cooked as requested (well done) but could have been seasoned more. It was a little bland and dry. But we still ate it and took some steak home for bfast the next day. We also had the Baked Brie which has pistachios, cranberries and honey and comes with baguette slices - this was YUM! Even my husband ate some. I got the creme brûlée again this time which did NOT disappoint! Top was crispy perfect and the vanilla bean custard - magnifique! I had the French 75 to drink (soju (Korean vodka), brut, lemon) and husband had a cpl Pilsners. Overall, a delightful way to spend a Friday! We will be back! Because of the limited menu this is not necessarily a place to go every week unless you like eating the same, rich foods once a week.
