The Smoking Goat is an award-winning California-French bistro located in the heart of North Park, San Diego. Finally getting back in to the swing of things!! Smoking goat was our first stop post quarantine and we are so glad it was! The service was top notch and everyone very respectful of the current safety protocol! Mussels were delicious especially with the sourdough baguette yum!!!!

For our anniversary, and the opening of restaurants to dine-in eating we decided to celebrate out. We chose The Smoking Goat and are so glad we did. From the minute we checked in to the end of our meal we were catered to (we did not mention that it was our anniversary). The staff was so happy to be serving eat-in customers, their enthusiasm was infectious. We ordered the Olive Tappenade as an appetizer, it was tangy, flavorful and was the perfect opener. For entrees we shared the Lamb Bolognese and the Mushroom Linguine. (We’ve had enough chicken and steak during lockdown, haha).) Both dishes were delicious. Dessert for us was the goat cheesecake, it was mild and the perfect ending to our meal. We could not have been happier with our meal, and our experience. Tables are distanced, staff wear masks, if you bring your own wine they will provide glasses but you do your pouring. Staff provides the take-home boxes and you pack them yourself. Masks are required when waiting for a table, being seated and when you get up to use the restroom or to leave. Masks are not required while sitting at your table. We will definitely return and highly recommend this restaurant.

The food was incredible. I ordered the chicken dinner and my boyfriend ordered the steak dinner, both were absolutely divine. Ordered the octopus for an appetizer, also amazing. Took the cheese cake to go, SO GOOD!!

We had the most amazing meal. It was the 1st restaurant we ate at after months of being locked down. The service was outstanding and the food was tasty and incredibly well-prepared. Can't wait to go back.

One of my favorite places to dine in North Park. The food is consistently amazing, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, service and atmosphere are perfect. The Smoking Goat is a place that is special and great for an occasion or date, but feels comfortable and makes you want to come back frequently.

The three pillars of a great restaurant are: Quality of the food, Service and Consistency. The Smoking Goat hits a trifecta-getting 5 stars in all three areas and making the Goat our go-to for date night and dinner when our friends from out-of-town come visit.

Food: We have worked our way through most of the menu at this point with no bad experiences so will hit a few of the highlights from each course. Appetizers: The baked brie is nestled in its own mini skillet and sprinkled with pistachios and cranberries then lightly drizzled with honey. Rich and sweet it was almost the cause of divorce for last-bite-rites. The French Onion Soup is solid- right amount of salt and the French Wedge, generous. Main: The Diver Scallops are so huge I’m positive they were provided by a source one doesn’t question- or ask for a last name- and they are cooked with the right amount of crust-to-tender. The chicken dish ties with the New York Strip as a consistent go-to with the chicken winning as it savory but doesn’t feel heavy. Dessert: Goat Cheese cheesecake …all…day…long. It’s rich, it’s fluffy, and it’s magical. The Flourless Chocolate Cake is delicious and crowned with brandied cherries but the Griddled Banana Bread tops it for uniqueness in taste and presentation.

Service: The entire staff has clairvoyant like powers. They are friendly and quick to attend when you need them and spookily aware when you want some space. All

Consistency: we have dined there 6x in the past 4 months and have not had 1 single sub-par experience. Both Food and Service hold- and keep- a high bar.

All of us want to thank and congratulate the chef who prepared our prime rib dinner. We asked that our slices were closer to medium than rare and you totally made that happen. The taste and texture of the prime rib was the best we've ever eaten in our entire lives. Now that's saying something because I am 80 and our son is 55 . Our grandson had the taste treat of his life as well. So thank you very much for a delectable dining experience. The restaurant was packed and deservedly so. The Smoking Goat offers quality dining at an affordable price..thank you for your great waiter because he was spot on when he declared the Prime Rib to be the best ever..

Went on a Wednesday for the 3 course meal for $40. Really enjoyed each course. The salmon with spinach and lentils was outstanding. Would definitely eat there again.

We had been looking forward to try this restaurant t for a while now. My friend back down from LA and we were excited. Unfortunately it was awful. Both entrees were over cooked, dry and flavorless (the salmon and bone in NY steak). Only the very top crust of the mac and cheese has flavor, the rest is horribly bland. We couldn’t even inform our server the entrees were overcooked because he was always racing around the small dining seemingly busy, but never really checking on us. By far the WORST service I’ve had since moving to San Diego. He never checked to see how are meals were, I had a horrible cocktail I wanted to send back, but the server ignored me. Several times other servers had to help out and come to our rescue.


And THEN of course as I’m paying and tipping the server finally asks how things were and I say they were just okay. NOW all of a sudden he’s worried, asks what happened w the untouched drink still sitting on the table, and HE TELLS US that he checked on us a ton so he doesn’t understand, as if we got the experience wrong. I mean..... so tacky and awful.

Horrific service coupled with disgusting food. I will definitely not be bad. Horrible night. We went to a bar for some wings just to get the bad taste of that meal out of our mouths.

The prime rib special was awesome deal. My scallops not so much...delicious but only 3 scallops on the plate with a so-so rissotto.
The cheesecake (talked up by the waiter) was ok, but nothing special.

Every dish we ordered was underwhelming for the price point. The octopus was overdone, chewy, and extremely salty. The risotto was bland and grainy. After spending $175 for 2 people, we were expecting a lot more.

Fabulous Prime Rib! Very busy night on a Friday, so noise level was VERY LOUD! 8:00 O'clock reservation was a good idea, as the crowd dwindled by 9:00 ish.

We had 4 of the best items on the menu, the octopus which is ridiculously good, the pear salad which my wife absolutely loves, and the chicken which is oddly one of the best dishes anywhere. We followed that with the goat cheese cheesecake, wow! Service was impeccable as well!

We waited a full hour past our reservation time, were given different stories about the cause of the delay, and were ultimately seated at a table squeezed in by the door. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday, it was really a bad evening. We were given gift cards as compensation but were told not to use them that evening, and after being seated, waited another 40 minutes for our food. Really disappointing.

We came on the 10th anniversary for pre-fixe meal. Found it misleading to see that some items had a five dollar "supplement" when we were led to believe that every entree was same price. NOT GOOD. Also, our service was fine until dessert. We waited, waited, waited .... probably more than 30 minutes to get dessert. Then also waited to get our bill. Annoying. It was loud, too, but of course, with a special event, one could expect more people, and thus, more work for servers. However, the FOOD WAS FABULOUS .... some of the best, ever... the salmon, chicken, and ravioli were out of this world.

Went to the restaurant on their 10th anniversary the other night. The food was delicious but the service was very slow. I expect a three course dinner to be a longer affair but it should not take 45 min to an hour to get your dessert.
If they can get the service part sorted it would be a fantastic dining experience.

First visit and we were greeted warmly and seated right away. Then we were not served any bread just tap water. Waited 15-20 minutes for our appetizers which were delicious. The food was good but small portions. The price for 2 was $200 and they don’t have cocktails ($6 for Ginger Ale). Not a good value and the food isn’t good enough to lure me back. I’ll pass
