The Smoking Goat is an award-winning California-French bistro located in the heart of North Park, San Diego. Inspired by his European Farm-to-Table up-bringing and culinary training at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, Executive Chef and Owner Fred Piehl, marries classic French cuisine with the bounty of San Diego in a way that is rustic, yet refined, imaginative, yet unpretentious. We had been to the Smoking Goat before and had some very good meals, but this night was exceptional!!
The food was truly excellent across the board.......pate.....salad......scallops.....and rare prime rib. All the ingredients were at the peak of freshness, cooked perfectly, and served by Brian with elan! Best meal we have had in a local restaurant in a long time.

Our food was extraordinary and the ambiance very charming. We loved it. Our server was rather intense and spoke so quickly and loudly that he seemed to be rushing us along. That wasn’t ideal. And the credit card machine suggested a 22% gratuity as the standard option... really? That’s tacky.

First of all when we walked in it had a beautiful interior decorations. Great atmosphere for a date or a great place to dine out with friends.

We made our reservation ahead of time for our anniversary but when we walked in our table wasn’t ready and in fact, it seemed like they haven’t prepared at all for the reservation.
When we got situated the table was extremely shaky and the waiter fixed it with a door stopper.

Food was okay. We had the french onion soup, salmon, and chicken. The french onion was good, salmon did not seemed to balance with the side dishes and the flavors were boring, and the chicken was a nice balance of savory but something you could eat anywhere. We also had the goat cheesecake and it was delicious. Which caught us off guard because we don't like goat cheese.

Overall, With the food, service, and price this place wasn’t worth it to me.

The food was really good and well presented. The waiter was a little hyper and into himself rather than pleasing the customer. Too many tables in a small area, hard to walk through restaurant, even though it was a short distance.

We love this place! Its a great neighborhood bistro with zero attitude - the staff from hostess to server to food runner are up for a good time & not stuck up. We celebrated my husband's birthday here with 2 11-year-old kids who were thrilled to be included, and they were treated with dignity and kindness. We just went back for date night with dear friends from out of town. Such a great evening.

Foodwise: Best cooked medium rare New York steak ever. Excellent goat cheese cheesecake. Service feedback: recommend waiter make space when taking an order from next table. Tables are close but don’t need to have ones backside hover over our table. Our waiter was very good just not used to his military style communication which we thought at first was grumpiness. Overall very pleased with service, food, ambiance, good wine selection. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We came to celebrate my mother's birthday and it was restaurant week. Our meal was amazing. It was a little loud but it felt like it was everyone just being excited in a Friday evening. I cannot wait to go back and I will be getting the baked brie again for sure to share with my group.

very good food, very busy, but we went during restaurant week, so that was to be expected. just be sure to tell the waiter if you only want a glass of wine. my wife ordered a red wine and the waiter brings out and charges us for a full bottle. a little irritated at that but the wine was good though

We had booked our dinner weeks beforehand, not realizing it would be during Restaurant Week. Despite the extra pressure on the kitchen from the huge number of diners, The Smoking Goat delivered a superb dinner to us - possibly the best dinner (among many wonderful ones) we've had there! This restaurant continues to be on our short list of places we must return to again and again because the quality of their food doesn't falter. The salmon and the pork chop were amazing. It seems they were debuting their fall menu items, and there wasn't one misstep amongst them.

Nothing to fault except for how quickly our waiter appeared for payment. I presented my credit card and figured he would be back in a while. He returned in seconds with a hand held device and obviously wanted payment then. It was restaurant week. I guess they wanted to turn over table ASAP.
Regardless, I would not hesitate to dine there on our next visit (February) to San Diego.

Looked like they were struggling to keep their orders organized in a timely fashion in spite of their menus already being cut down to restaurant week status with limited items. The ambience was chaotic with several large parties not distributed out well so concentrated noise issues made for a less than ideal dining experience.

Our dinner exceeded our expectations. Alex was very informative and his staff attentive.
We were there to celebrate my wife Karen's birthday. Karen who is not known for hyperbole felt the chicken was without a doubt the best she had ever experienced anywhere. I felt the same about the French Onion Soup. We will be back again soon.

Everything at the Smoking Goat was amazing, food, ambiance, service. It is my new favorite restaurant. I plan on having my birthday party there in November! My friend and I were talking about our food and the experience on our way home in the Uber, and the Uber driver asked us what restaurant we were talking about, and that he had to visit it after hearing our raves about the food. Two days later and I am still raving about the food!

The food was incredible!! We had escargot and truffle fries for appetizers. All three entrees were cooked perfectly- prime rib, halibut and their signature pork chop. Finished with a perfect creme brûlée that was on the house as we were celebrating my son’s birthday- a perfect evening!!!!

We sat on the patio and our server was wonderful! Recommending a couple specials. We got the local catch of the day and the prime rib. Our whole table was obsessed with that prime rib dish! I loved the touch of zest on our espresso and the attentive friendly service we got from the front of house crew members. Great job everyone! ♥️♥️♥️

Excellent food (octopus to start, prime rib, pork chop and the kicker grilled banana bread foster) and wonderful staff our waiter Matthew was great he had spot on recommendations was friendly and professional. The manager Alex was also very attentive and professional. We highly recommend this restaurant, great date night.

The food is AMAZING!!! Had the mussels (might've been the best we've had!), arugula salad, pork chop, squash pasta, flourless chocolate cake and bread pudding! Seriously. Delicious. 😊 DEFINITELY coming back! Hopefully they have a full bar by then - but wine was great!
