Been there three times and it has become our favorite neighborhood bistro when we want a comfort meal that's nicer than fast casual but not as fancy as a high-end restaurant. Menu is smallish, but everything they do, they do well.
The salmon dish was excellent, cooked the way I like it, not overdone.
My husband liked the chicken dish, the gravy was excellent.
The staff was amazing! The food was incredible.
The food was awesome! The best I've had in some time. The service was outstanding as well. It seemed like all the staff that passed by asked how things were and if anything was needed. Alex and Jared made the experience pleasant.
Fabulous dinner and service. Ate outside and 30th ST is fairly loud but a wonderful night.
Food was amazing. Fries are no joke best damn fries I have ever had. Won't be disappointed. Great food, great drinks and great price
We enjoyed our time at this restaurant which we had selected for a special occasion. The restaurant asked if this was a special occasion but forgot. When we brought it to their attention they were very apologetic and provided a special dessert to go.
Loved it!! The food was delicious, great menu options. Awesome service.
It was our first time there and I already can’t wait to go back! Everything was excellent from the mussels (insaneeee) to the octopus (perfect) and the amazing steak frites! Loved the truffle fries it came with. Also the service was great.
salad was full of sand. Main dish cold and chees cake tasting old. the outside seating was unheated and the tables wobbly. super loud in a tight outside space.
Amazing experience & Allan was a great server!
My husband and I had dinner here for NYE. Food was delicious! Service was great! We will definitely be back.
We left hungry and not satisfied despite the New Year’s eve overpriced menu!
The Duck breast was tasty but the portion size was like a pigeon.
Great food, service, and atmosphere! Will definitely be back again soon!
Gotten worse with each visit, think this was the final chance. French onion bowl was cold therefore the soup rapidly followed suit with clumpy cheese and poor flavor.
Superb food everyone of the four of us loved what we had, highlights: the baked brie was outstanding, as was the wild mushroom linguine and the duck
The website does say "cocktails" but does not say they do not have a liquor license only wine and beer, I was a little embarrassed as my guests were looking looking forward to a "real" cocktail before dinner. Perhaps the restaurant could clarify this.
they were also out of sparkling water.
Other than that it was a great evening with outstanding food!!
The food was excellent. We sat outdoors where it was more quiet.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough!! Went there for my birthday and had the most amazing experience. The food is delicious, the staff is very friendly and attentive, and the owner was continuously checking with guests to ensure everything was perfect. We planned to order two desserts to go when our server brought over a crème brûlée with a candle for me. We chose our to go desserts and when the owner saw we were going to have had three of the four desserts, he wanted us to try the last one so he sent that one to us on the house. They helped make my 50th birthday very special and we will be going there again.
The food was excellent. The service was a little slow, but I do think it was rather busy for a Tuesday night, so it was understandable. We still had a great time!
I took my daughter to Smoking Goat before attending a nearby concert. I am so glad we chose Smoking Goat! The ambience, the food, the wine selection and the service were all excellent!!!!
Server was nice. Alex the manager was amazing went out of his way to make sure my friends and I were satisfied even when the chicken dish was not to my liking.
The food is amazing. Perfect spot for a date night.
Great place!!! Food, ambience, service was amazing!!!
We had a great night! The food was DELICIOUS, the service was lovely and the atmosphere was very laid back but still very gorgeous. We will be returning!
This restaurant may be nice, but we never found out because we were waiting for 30 minutes after being seated without anyone noticing we were there. I suspect this was because we had an outdoor table. Don’t reserve an outdoor table at this restaurant, you may be forgotten.
We returned two nights after our first time because the food and amiable service were so enjoyable. If we lived in San Diego we would be regulars at the Smoking Goat.
The food was spectacular. The salmon was cooked perfect. Served on a bed of lentils. Everything with seasoned to perfection.
Everything here is spectacular. The vibe is great, the service is amazing- and the food is incredible. We can't wait to come back everytime we are in San Diego.
The service was great (even though they were busy). Appetizers were fun - octopus good, snail good, brie was great.
Steak and fries YUM!
Everything was excellent- still my fave San Diego restaurant! Especially impressed with their service during these challenging times.
After living in France for 17 years and eating at several Michelin starred restaurants I can honestly say that the meal I just had at the Smoking Goat was every bit as good. The food is just fabulous. The menu is varied and there is something for everyone. Don't miss the goat cheese cheesecake for dessert - if you have room!
French food is not very common in San Diego. This was an all around excellent meal. All dinners were great as well as dessert. The banana bread foster was so good we tried to order a second one but they were sold out at that point - that was the only disappointment of the evening. The escargot was a standout appetizer.
Exceptional food and service. Creative dishes that are a joy to eat.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! Wanted to try a new restaurant in the neighborhood and this did not disappoint. The best French onion soup I’ve had in a long time. Great wine. Just good, quality food and a service staff that wants you to have a the best time. Will for sure dining here again.
Service was great and staff was all really friendly. Food was amazing as well, we split 5 appetizers and 2 desserts. The atmosphere was fun and we loved the music! We will definitely be back.
Delicious dinner, delicious wine- The Smoking Goat Bordeaux was quite goo! My date loved his chicken!
I didn’t have very high expectations for this place, but even then, it was still a disappointment. I made a reservation and they seated us in the bar area, not the dining room. I had to persistently ask if we could move. No cocktails or hard liquor due to not having a liquor license. Just beer and wine. They make some “signature” cocktails using sake rice wine. Their signature steak and frites, and pork chop that the server said was the best thing on the menu was a really sad representation of their “best”. The steak was cold, not Luke warm, but actually cold and grisly, hard to even cut through with a serrated steak knife. The pork chop was dry and over cooked. A couple of good things were the tiny flourless chocolate cake, the fries, and ice cream, but that’s it. Way over-priced and poor quality for the food of a neighborhood place or any place for that matter. Might do yourself a favor and avoid this place. There’s much better places in North Park!
Good food, good service. Would recommend for a great dinner with friends or a special occasion.
Such a wonderful night everyone was accommodating and very friendly. The food was exquisite the Octopus appetizer and the steak Frites were unbelievably delicious I can still taste them. Thank you for a great night
Finally back after a while, and it looks like the pandemic has taken its toll; however, I am sure they’ll come back strong. Been here many times before with excellent results.
