My worst outdoor dining experience.
This place used to be my go to spot pre covid for a quick lunch meeting outside the office. Unfortunately not only has covid caused the quality of food of this place to be mediocre at best, i had an omelette and it was still runny, the staff is really just overbearing and anxious and really not so nice at all.
I am actually someone who wears a mask obsessively and this place over does it with their rules. When there is hot food on your plate in front of you, there is no reason for them to require you to wear your mask every time a bus boy or server wants to check on you. Also, maybe if they brought every plate over at once rather than one at a time, the person who is eating wouldn’t have to reapply their mask because your staff is incapable of carrying 2 plates at a time.
They literally force you to put your mask on at all times except when eating or drinking. Thats even if you are just sitting there with your colleague talking and sitting at your table waiting for your food or check to arrive. You might as well walk past this place and right over to any of the other restaurants who would be happy to have you dine there instead.
Ps: your hostess could use some training is smiling and being a bit more friendly to your guests.
Great dining experience, as always!! Perfect outdoor dining set up during these most unusual times.
Look forward to returning for lunch at The Smith in the near future.
I chose the wrong, cold Sunday to come. Aside from that everything is delicious. I recommend the Moscow mule, broccolini, chips with fondue--honestly, the entire menu. I was freezing cold so I didn't enjoy it as much as my last visit. Choose a Sun date.
Weird service. No restaurant has been like this since covid. If you saw the meme where the throw the drinks and food at your table it is like that. The staff seem scared to be anywhere no you and its not welcoming or indeed attentive. We all know Covid is airborne and they are masked, outside and the tables have great airflow so they are as safe as can be. not sure who telling them to act like this but its very strange and I have not experience any service like this since we have been dining outside. Wont go back for now.
Outstanding service and food. Great selection of appetizers and entrees.
Covid policies are really great. Food was solid as always. Very consistent & there's something for everyone on the menu
The safety procedures are well-thought out. I felt safe dining there. The drink menu could be enhanced.
No waiting for reservation. Service was excellent. Great mix of items on the menu, something for everyone.
The server and the hostess had an attitude. The food was average and overpriced
I would not return
2nd Avenue is very noisy. Otherwise, good experience.
Arrogance from hostess and lack of service from waiters. If this was in a European city with limited options in the middle of the night I would suck it up but in NYC there are so many great options its clearly a sign they are on decline given you can throw a rock at 4 or 5 great options right around them.
If you want an over-priced Bennigans experience with over worked servers and no follow up, go for it!
Overall very respectful if the times we are living though and optimizing the experience.
Food was delicious, server was very attentive and they've done the best they could possibly do during the pandemic to make dining a pleasure.
Wonderful service, well-spaced outdoor tables, and extremely conscientious of guests’ concerns re: the whole global pandemic thing.
We enjoyed our meal, and the staff who served and helped with seating were all lovely.
Great place for weekend lunch/brunch. Their Eggs Benedict are really wonderful, burgers are terrific and I dream about their shrimp and grits. Outdoor dining is a little noisy but not their fault. They were very careful with mask wearing and cleanliness.
The brunch menu Is really good!!! I really enjoyed the French toast and the home fries was so good!!! Will definitely recommend!
Booked for an anniversary dinner and we had a great experience! Friendly and efficient service and delicious food :)
Consistently the best restaurant! Outdoor seating is fun, clean and delicious! Great service.
Had a great experience as usual at the Smith the staff followed Covid guidelines perfectly and service was excellent!!!
The approach of the wait staff to mask wearing made for some difficulty. Not simple clearly but part of dining outdoors is not needing a mask to eat so it is not always on.
The food was really outstanding. I'm dreaming of the steak, mashed potatoes, and blueberry cheesecake in a jar dessert (which I got to go) as all were stellar. We sat outside, and there was an overhead cover, which was great since it rained for a little bit, and we stayed dry. Our server was not great, but we let the restaurant know, and they are taking care of it. We will definitely be back.
Great food and MUCH quieter outside than when I ate inside. Now I'm a fan again after vowing to never go back there because of the sound level
Love The Smith!
Didn’t like outdoor set up didn’t like service didn’t like anything about place The one on the Westside much better also the salmon was terrible
Love this place! The outdoor dining was excellent, waiters were masked and gloved and very friendly. Can’t wait to go back!
While I respect the restaurant’s right and decision to protect staff by requiring patrons to put on a mask at every interaction with staff, it was very awkward and demanding on the customer to keep reaching for one’s mask constantly during a meal. Awful dining experience.
Food and drink as always were great. Their policy of the waiter not coming over to the table until everyone puts on their masks is a little bit overkill though...
The service and food was AMAZING. We were there for Sunday brunch and had the ricotta pancakes and the were wonderful as well as the watermelon avocado salad. The sever we had was so patient with us since we didn’t know what we wanted, but he had great suggestions from the menus. I have been here before for the Mac n chess and I will continue to come back here for the drinks and doos. I was really impressed with how sanitary the outdoor table were as well as how the servers kept to the social distancing rules. I highly recommend having drinks or a meal. Plus the eye candy isn’t bad.
Food wasn’t worth the price we paid for.
The food was good as it reliably is at The Smith. It is on the expensive side. The waiter was fine, but the bus-boy seemed visibly annoyed to have to come anywhere near us, even with the mask up-mask-down rule every time a server comes to the table. He practically threw the take out bag on our table. I don't care to be treated like a leper. The paranoia is too much. The worst part was the table had no umbrella or awning cover and it was in the high 80's. We were melting outside while shooing flies away from our food. It was sooo uncomfortable. I left wishing I didn't bother coming. Every table needs a cover. I would not come back until indoor dining is open.
Wonderful service and great staff as always at the Smith this place is very consistent and is following all the Covid guidelines perfectly!!!
Outdoor dining can be difficult, but the Smith handles it with finesse. The food was imaginative and the waitstaff friendly and efficient.
Food was fantastic! Takes COVID seriously which is good lol
The outdoor situation in the bike lane is crazy. And if the servers don’t want to work they should stay home.
If people are out trying to promote local businesses in 90 degrees, we don’t really need the attitude.
Food is also delicious and fresh.
Great American fare to choose from.
With COVID there is only outdoor seating at this location however, they have a lot of tables both on the sidewalk and blocked off on the street. You don’t feel like the people passing by on the sidewalk are too close to you. There were umbrellas and it was a really comfortable experience. They ask you to put your face mask up when a service comes to the table. This was a little annoying as I haven’t been asked to do this at other restaurants and you have to keep your mask handy however, it’s totally understandable. Only negative is that I put down that we were “celebrating a birthday” since it was my husbands birthday and I wish they would have acknowledge that. There’s clearly a benefit when restaurants use open table so it would be great if they read the notes.
