The Smith - Midtown
Book your next event with us
This was my first visit to the midtown Smith. I have been to the East Village location several times. Without exception the food, service and ambiance has been wonderful on each visit. I think I prefer the East Village location since it has always been less crowded and more relaxed. But both are great! Like being in a French bistro!
A wonderful quick Sunday dinner between trains, A+ on cocktails, food and service. Experience fouled by a finger wagging, self important 14 year old manageress.
Our waiter was the most professional, upbeat person. I forgot his name but he’s from Philly !!
Great food, great service. Very fresh. Great spot for brunch.
Your starring system is difficult as they are vagaries in my reply that cannot be reflected by your star system.
One Star or Less Category
(Required inordinate patience coupled with grace, good humor and an hijacked outcome as we could not very well leave .. yet staying was ridiculous!)
1. Reservations were for 1pm. We sat at 2pm. The young hostess was very pleasant however, at the 30 min over mark, a manager should have asked the table that was lingering .. no food, bill paid, and just chatting to leave. At the 45 min mark, our guests from out of town were hungry and no matter how we talked about the food wanted to leave.
2. Managers should have moved the table along and not left it to hostess who was overwhelmed to handle. He was standing literally right next to the table almost the entire time surveying the room.
3. Three different dishes we ordered .. once placed .. the waitress came back to tell us that the kitchen was sold out.
4. There was honestly another "sorry folks, more bad news" message from our server but I blanked it out as we joked that the chef had left ...
Three/Four Star Category:
1. Management sent over starters for the table as soon as we sat down that were delicious! The hummus was our favorite as the texture was excellent and the homemade bread to accompany was excellent!
2. Management removed our drinks from the bill due to #3 from above.
3. Management sent over a dessert for table to share due to #4 from above.
4. Our server. She knew we were upset about the wait .. which was not her fault but management should have intervened OR do not use the OpenTable reservation system. Just let people linger for hours like they do in Europe. She smiled through every piece of bad news but you could tell she hated telling us.
5. The young hostess actually bused the tables with waitstaff to get it clear for us. Not the manager. He just stood there.
Food overall was excellent. On past trips, not one of these problems occurred.
Food and service were exceptional. A bit noisy because it was crowded, which was the result of it’s popularity.
Best brunch in Midtown so far. Didn’t have a single bad dish, everything tastes soooo good! Love the photobooth too, super cute idea! Drinks are strong.
Excellent meal as always! Great server
We eat here every time we visit New York. The food is impressive every time. The staff are attentive, for such a busy spot. The ambiance is fun and energetic. The food brings us back every time!
Amazing - we had fantastic food, our waiter took great care of us and the short ribs were the best!
Great location, great food and great service. A little noisy but most NYC restaurants are.
We love The Smith! Food is wonderful! We have eaten at this one and the one in DC and are very pleased.
Delicious food and atmosphere!!
The Mac & Cheese starter is very large--enough for at least 3 people.
The burger was tasty with a massive amount of fries.
Service was quick and efficient.
Glad we arrived earlier than our reservation as place filled up very fast
Very loud, noise level was way too high. Had to shout to the other person at table.
Loud and busy brunch place. Food was excellent. Servers rushed us out at the end of our meal, as expected in a busy brunch restaurant.
BEST BRUNCH I’ve EVER had!!!! Bring one to Toronto!!!
Food was for the most part outstanding! We loved the salmon avocado toast and the short rib skillet over jalapeño grits. The coffee was delicious. The Bellinis were average. The omelette was below average because the filling wasn’t incorporated into the eggs.
Service. Prompt with taking our order but tough to get refills on coffee. She also spoke so quietly that no one could hear her.
Great decor but on the loud side due to subway tile which was really ok. It was just the music selection piped in that compounded it. The music just sounded like more noise and didn’t improve the atmosphere.
I have been to The Smith Midtown a lot of times and always enjoy going back. Five of us had breakfast and all our meals were very good. Hi our won’t leave hungry and they have great coffee.
Great energy. The perfect spot for a quick bite before a night out. Super friendly staff.
Fantastic! We had 6 people in our group including family from out of town and we were seated promptly. Ambience and our food was amazing and our waitress was so helpful and attentive. The scallops were fantastic! Highly recommend-everyone really enjoyed it!
I took my wife and 7 year old daughter here for dinner before headed to see Wicked on Broadway, we were staying at the nearby Fifty NYC hotel. We are self proclaimed ‘foodies,’ and thought the cocktails, food, and service were incredible. Our waiter Julian was exceptional. I forgot my wool drivers cap, which they found and held till I returned the next day. We will be visiting The Smith - Midtown again!! Thank you. -PR
Amazing, delicious food! The ambiance was unique, comfortable, and low-key. Service was outstanding.
Seated as soon as we walked in, service was quick, waiter was polite, food was excellent. Overall amazing experience
Too noisy. Otherwise, the ambiance and the food was good
Maybe you have to be a hipster millennial to enjoy this place where you don't need to talk. The decibel level is so loud that you have to scream across the table to be heard. It's impossible to have a normal conversation. Food was mediocre at best: potato chips came with gloppy, tasteless blue cheese "sauce"--more like cement paste. ribs were so over spice rubbed and topped with a cloyingly sweet sauce that it could have been pork, beef, or chicken under it and you'd have no idea. Sea Bass, supposedly a specialty, was so overdone, it was rock hard. Salmon tartare was the texture of baby food--just nasty. On the plus side, the waitress was super responsive, knew we hated the meal, and tried to make amends. This is definitely NOT a place to do business.
food is always consistent. waitress was energetic and helpful. had to wait past our reservation time for a table, but that happens often here.
All good. Will be back
Awesome! Great restaurant. Terrific ambiance. Delicious food!
Very nice, good food, good service
Good choice on the menu.
Starter was great and the Pork chop was wonderful.
Salad options were good.
Anniversary. Put in the corner round table for 2nd year in a row. Awesome thank you. Great seats
Great service! One of the meals wasn’t quite right the first time and they immediately changed it out. Was a fabulous experience. We will definitely be back.
Asked for a booth and they told us they didn’t, but my friend and i saw one. Also, i had a reservation and got there on time but they made us wait while they sat people walking in?? Seemed like they didnt mind us and sat the white people first. But other than that, the waitress was nice and the place was beautiful z
Drinks were amazing
Food was amazing
Just go eat and enjoy
You won’t regret it
Sat at bar. Bartender provided excellent service. Food was once again great.
Underwhelming and overpriced. If you like loud, this is the place for you.
Rude wait staff, rushed service, mediocre food. Noise level so high, almost impossible to converse.
We had a wonderful time at The Smith. The service could not have been better, or the staff more friendly. The food was delicious.
Food and service were stellar as always
