The Smith - Midtown

The service and food were fair but was overpriced for what we got. The noise level was so high it was hard to order or have a conversation. There were a lot of folks waiting so glad we had a reservation. We did get 'rushed' out toward the end of the meal. My plate and coffee were taken out from under me before I had quite finished - I dont blame them as they probably were trying to flip tables as quickly as possible, but I would not go there for brunch again.
The Smith is a very special restaurant with good food and wonderful service. You must eat there to experience all that it offers.
BEST grilled cheese EVER
Love the place and decor. It was pretty loud though with everyone talking.
Great spot terrific menu and quick service tru the pancakes and French toast for a splurge from diet tuna salad is great
Always the best food and best service.
One of my favorites.
too loud, overpriced for the quality of the food, fish was not great, hamburger was dry, generally disappointing and it was my 5th time... so I know it can be better !
The noise level was deafening. A fan blowing cold air was positioned directly above our table, which was squeezed in between two other tables with virtually no space between us. It was uncomfortable and impossible to enjoy. I ordered a drink, and when my guest arrived, I finished it quickly, and we left without ordering our dinners. It was the most unappealing experience -- I will never return. We walked to a restaurant at the end of the block, were seated at an outside/sidewalk table, and had a lovely meal and a conversation without shouting at each other to be heard.
We visited The Smith at lunch; it is noisy as hell so know that you will be shouting over the table to be heard. Food and service are fine. They are overly generous with the french fries and homemade chips served as sides to sandwiches; this is both good and bad. Nobody needs to eat the quantity of fries and chips served; they could save money for all if they cut the portions in half (and it would still be more than enough). But if you want to eat the equivalent of two jumbo potatoes as a side, have at it.
Amazing food, drink and service every single time. This is one of my favorites when I am visiting NYC!
Great local place. Easy. casual, something for everyone on the menu. Service was very good.
I've been here a few times and always enjoyed the experience! Gorgeous, modern setting and an interesting menu with lots of great options.
Modern restaurant with good food. We had the French toast and the Sicilian eggs for breakfast. Both were unique and delicious.
TOO LOUDED. I CAN NOT TALK WITH MY FRINED. IT SOUNDS LIKE I AM TALKING WITH SOMEONE IN NIGHT CLUB. ALL LOCATIONS ARE SAME.
The Smith was perfect for brunch. I was very happy to have had reservations as it was packed for brunch and now, I know why. The food was delicious and the service was efficient and cordial. We ordered the pastrami sandwich with an egg, avocado sandwich and the turkey sausage and egg sandwich. We ordered french fries and brussel sprouts in addition to our meal as well. They all came out together and was delicious and tasty. We will definitely be back.
Always a perfect brunch!
excellent ! great breakfast, please was clean, pancakes were great, eggs bene were good, we will be back
Smith noise level is very loud. Difficult to hear others speaking at my table. If you have food allergies (shellfish or dairy) not the place to go. Limited options. They will try to accommodate your allergies but with that accommodation they gave me and my daughter a much smaller portion than other patrons with same dish. For the price it was not justified. Despite our disappointment, my dish my other child ordered was delicious. Not a consistent eating experience for a family. Not enough allergy friendly options and noise level too high.
Had come at Christmas 2 years ago and had really looked forward to coming back at the forth of July for my Mother’s birthday. Our server was beyond rude with zero personality and no patience. After ordering drinks and appetizers, we closed our check and walked out. We won’t be returning for special events anymore - no matter how good the food is!
One of the best steaks I have ever had. Service was outstanding. It’s a busy place that’s a bit noisy for our personal taste, but not so much that it takes away from a great dining experience!
Another solid meal. Friendly service, ample portions. Try the spicy chicken. Salmon tartare also solid. Very accommodating. Great for last night
I'd unknowingly apparently made the reservation at another The Smith location. My "name was not in the system". The hostess was snooty, unsympathetic and not helpful.
Adding frustration to an already disappointing afternoon. If we weren't so hungry, we would have left!
Great food, great service. Can't stay away! Highly recommend.
Not the best place for a business lunch as it is too loud. The walls are tiled so there's no noise absorption.
Excellent restaurant. The Seabass was exquisite and the service was awesome. A little loud, but that is expected for good, crowded Manhattan restaurants. Definitely recommend you try - I will be back.
Interesting European-style rest rooms with a photo booth(!) and shoe shining chairs.
We chose to have brunch here because of the location and the menu. Food and service was good. Although I think the restaurant took care to seat us at the requested "quietest table possible", the noise level was still close to unbearable. It's a shame--we would have really liked this restaurant if we could have vaguely heard each other.
The food, and service were excellent. Make a reservation because they are packed.
Great food and drinks!! Super popular so definitely make a reservation!!
It’s so loud! Tiled surfaces don’t absorb sound.
Great food- innovative options- fabulous vibe- was there for brunch and would love to try other meals. Haven’t been to other locations but loved this one.
Very good food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, our service was very poor and did meet the rather very good service we have received on our previous visits to The Smith locations around town.
The Smith is a very special restaurant in New York. Everyone feels welcome there - regulars, as well as occasional guests. Food is great and the service is special.
We had brunch and the Eggs Benedict which were very good. The staff is attentive even though it was pretty crowded. Very enjoyable even with a high level of noise.
Nos fuimos sin comer nada. El nivel de ruido que hay en el ambiente es insoportable
It was so easy to make a reservation. The staff were all very friendly and professional. They were so nice when we asked to split the bill and gave us no issues with the request. The service was great and the food was amazing. Everyone was talking about how great the experience was and I have to say it was the best chicken sandwich I’ve had to date.
Brother and nieces came to visit. Excellent food.
Great food and excellent staff. However, noise level is so high one cannot hear one’s dinner companions.
Had a late breakfast here with my daughter and we both loved it. Server was great; atmosphere was relaxed and the location was easy to find. We both had eggs; they were delicious and the ciabatta toast was to die for. We had some time before an appointment and the server gave us some site-seeing suggestions. We would definitely go back.
Initially, I thought that I would be writing a negative review. My reservation left me at a noisy table next to the bar. I was upset that this is what an open table reservation leaves me at one of the noisiest locations in the restaurant.
But the restaurant redeemed itself promptly and moved us into a more suitable location. I am grateful that the ownership moved quickly.
