Great mid town NYC location. Staff was very well-versed in managing COVID protocols. Great food and drinks!
The carona precautions were very good but almost too good. The staff was very uptight and it made the dining out experience unpleasant. I’ve been to several restaurants during these difficult times and was very disappointed with this one.
The restaurant needs to be more pleasant when an instruction of mask-wearing when a service member comes to the table. The waiter was abrupt and rude when first approaching us at brunch. I explained if he said the word please when instructing us that would go over a long way in making the customer at ease. Even when bringing food the waiter stretched his arm from a distance even though we had our masks on. It does not make me want to come back as I was a regular there prior to this. I hope they fix this.
We've never had a problem before but did not have a great experience this time. We specifically asked for the eggs not to be overcooked, but they were. However our toast was undercooked. And it was almost impossible to get a refill on our coffee. Otherwise it was fine.
Awesome job considering the times we live in ..
I loved that they had great food and service and were truly conscious about being safe and wearing masks.
The Smith is always fantastic. The food, drinks and service are consistently wonderful!
Outstanding service and food.
great food, wonderful service, great overall experience
Food was bland and service couldn’t have been slower. We’ve tried different locations over the years and that will be the last.
We went for lunch on a weekday, but there were also some great brunch items. The food was great, our waiter was friendly and attentive. They followed Covid protocol with proper social distancing with the table set up. Looks like they have some great happy hours, too. They have indoor and outdoor dining. Recommend you make a reservation. It was a good find!
Just wonderful from start to finish! Everyone adheres to Covid rules and the food/service and noise (usually too loud because of all the tile work at the Smith), but with limited seating it’s now just a wonderful dining experience!
So thrilled the lobster roll is back on the menu.
Outdoor dining is great. Staff is masked and gloved.
Tables well separated.
Food is delicious.
Everything was excellent, as usual. The food was delicious, the service very good, the ambiance was ok. The only not so great part is that hand sanitizer is not offered on the tables, but all waitresses wear masks and gloves; the host checks our temperature, and there is a safe distance for tables and the bike lane.
Very slow service. Waiter forgot our desserts.
Pleasant atmosphere but menu was lacking and service only adequate. What was supposed to be a flatbread pizza was more like deep dish and mozzarella was in unmelted lumps. Two orders of shrimp cocktail were served on one plate and we had to ask for small plates. The cocktail sauce was like gel and pork chops was tasty but heavy on fat. Not what we expected at The Smith.
Pleasant outdoor seating experience
Kind staff. Quick service. Food was great and in good portions.
Been to the Smith twice now and have been unimpressed on both occasions. Their brunch prices are pretty high considering the how much food you are given. Both times service wasn't too great. Asked for my eggs well done and came out watery... Also, asked for a side a bacon that they completely forgot about and came out 10 mins after all entrees were served. If you are in midtown and looking for a brunch spot there are certainly better options out there and save you on the wallet.
The food was good. It was super awkward though every time a restaurant employee came to the table for any reason they would stop several feet away until we put our masks on. It was a strange experience in that regard.
I was very late to my reservation and they still accommodated me with a table without a problem. The service was great and the wait staff were incredibly friendly.
If you want to dine out but are are skeptical due to covid please consider coming to this restaurant. Everyone from management to wait staff adhered to mask wearing, temperature scans and other covid precautions. All tables were spaced out with plexiglass partitions, even those outdoors, and patrons are required to use their masks when food and drinks are being served at the table. The food was phenomenal and the manager was was very professional and kind. Specifically, there was a man who appeared to be mentally ill and possibly homeless who was being a bit unruly and starting shouting randomly around patrons who were outside. The manager excerised extreme patience when encouraging the man to move away from the establishment. I would go back to The Smith mid-town in a heartbeat.
Used to be an old time favorite, but it has turned quite mediocre recently. Lattes (had to send back) and omellettes were cold, service was over stretched/mediocre and maître d' wouldn't honor our original open table reservation even though we were 8 minutes late and their policy limit is 10 min. They process everyone (with or /without reservations) through temperature screening and we had to wait 15 min in this very slow line and they declined our reservation for this reason in almost a half empty restaurant. Never again.
Wonderful prix fixe lunch menu and outdoor seating. Salmon was delicious. Covid precautions and wonderful service.
We really appreciated the COVID-19 changes. It was refreshing that servers can't come to the table if patrons are not wearing their mask. Glad the restaurant is taking COVID-19 as seriously as we are
Excellent service and food.
My worst outdoor dining experience.
This place used to be my go to spot pre covid for a quick lunch meeting outside the office. Unfortunately not only has covid caused the quality of food of this place to be mediocre at best, i had an omelette and it was still runny, the staff is really just overbearing and anxious and really not so nice at all.
I am actually someone who wears a mask obsessively and this place over does it with their rules. When there is hot food on your plate in front of you, there is no reason for them to require you to wear your mask every time a bus boy or server wants to check on you. Also, maybe if they brought every plate over at once rather than one at a time, the person who is eating wouldn’t have to reapply their mask because your staff is incapable of carrying 2 plates at a time.
They literally force you to put your mask on at all times except when eating or drinking. Thats even if you are just sitting there with your colleague talking and sitting at your table waiting for your food or check to arrive. You might as well walk past this place and right over to any of the other restaurants who would be happy to have you dine there instead.
Ps: your hostess could use some training is smiling and being a bit more friendly to your guests.
Great dining experience, as always!! Perfect outdoor dining set up during these most unusual times.
Look forward to returning for lunch at The Smith in the near future.
I chose the wrong, cold Sunday to come. Aside from that everything is delicious. I recommend the Moscow mule, broccolini, chips with fondue--honestly, the entire menu. I was freezing cold so I didn't enjoy it as much as my last visit. Choose a Sun date.
Weird service. No restaurant has been like this since covid. If you saw the meme where the throw the drinks and food at your table it is like that. The staff seem scared to be anywhere no you and its not welcoming or indeed attentive. We all know Covid is airborne and they are masked, outside and the tables have great airflow so they are as safe as can be. not sure who telling them to act like this but its very strange and I have not experience any service like this since we have been dining outside. Wont go back for now.
Outstanding service and food. Great selection of appetizers and entrees.
Covid policies are really great. Food was solid as always. Very consistent & there's something for everyone on the menu
The safety procedures are well-thought out. I felt safe dining there. The drink menu could be enhanced.
No waiting for reservation. Service was excellent. Great mix of items on the menu, something for everyone.
The server and the hostess had an attitude. The food was average and overpriced
I would not return
2nd Avenue is very noisy. Otherwise, good experience.
Arrogance from hostess and lack of service from waiters. If this was in a European city with limited options in the middle of the night I would suck it up but in NYC there are so many great options its clearly a sign they are on decline given you can throw a rock at 4 or 5 great options right around them.
If you want an over-priced Bennigans experience with over worked servers and no follow up, go for it!
Overall very respectful if the times we are living though and optimizing the experience.
Food was delicious, server was very attentive and they've done the best they could possibly do during the pandemic to make dining a pleasure.
