The Smith- Lincoln Square Ratings and Reviews
We've been to the Smith several times because it's across the street from Lincoln Center but this was the first time we were really disappointed. First we were seated (after waiting 10 min. for our reserved table) at a broken table and told we couldn't move. After we got past that issue we were assigned the most inattentive server we've ever had there. Additionally:
--The server chose to talk directly to my wife with his back to me so that, as noisy as it was, I never heard a word he said without asking him to repeat it directly to me; you would think he'd learn after the first three or four times.
--Three times we asked a busboy or someone else to find our server when we had a problem and each time we got the maitre d' or someone else -- that is, never our server. If we were the guinea pigs or test case for a new or incompetent server, the Smith doesn't deserve our return traffic.
--Maybe they're changing recipes. The kitchen seemed to scrimp on seasonings and sauces and go a little longer on things like peppers. Generally the taste of the food was a bit off from what we're used to.
We were seated promptly. Good waiter. I was disappointed that I could not get an apple martini. The reason given was that they do not use apple pucker because it is not organic. Really?? What's with that? I ordered a glass of red wine which by the way was not organic. I had the filet mignon which was very good. My husband was disappointed with his dessert which was over baked chocolate chip cookies. Don't think we will return.
We went to the Lincoln Center location before the opera. They got us in and out efficiently. The brunch fare was good. The front desk staff is brusk. There is not ample waiting space to accommodate the practice of not seating parties while waiting for one additional person to arrive. This doesn't set a positive tone for dining here.
This may possibly be the LOUDEST restaurant I've ever eaten in. I met up with friends and we asked for the quietest spot. Even then, it was painful to try and have conversation. It was a relief to exit and sit in the park across the street and be able to hear one another. Terrible!!!!
Party of three seated at a table better suited for only 2 people. Everything felt cramped. Ordered their prime burger without the bun and they failed to get th order right and the substitution for Brussel sprouts was a fail as well since they came out burned and overdone. Food was ok at best, only highlight was their Mac and cheese. Overall, a very uncomfortable and poor dining experience. Will not return
I love this restaurant! I'm a big iced tea drinker and their tea is delicious! Their food is consistently great. It's 100% my favorite place for breakfast on weekdays and brunch on weekends. The only hit or miss thing would be the servers. Sometimes we get a great server and sometimes we get somebody who takes our order and then disappears for the rest of our time at the restaurant. In spite of that, the food always comes out perfectly so there really isn't anything to complain about!
Wow! This was the best meal we had while visiting NYC. We ate brunch and it was unbelievably delicious and creative and filling! The price was incredibly reasonable considering the amount of food, cool atmosphere and location of the restaurant. I highly recommend The Smith!! So good I wish I had a private jet and could fly in just to have that meal again!
The restaurant was very accommodating and seated us almost right away (even though they were packed...and we were late due to traffic). We enjoyed our burgers .. and everyone around us seemed to enjoy their meals as well. Conversation with my friend was hard as it was very loud inside... but the service was very good, and the food tasty . We were in a rush to get to our show and made it with time to spare .... I would definitely go back.
This time around my trip to the Smith was a little under the normal standard. It took longer than normal to get and order drinks and we were only given one bread (while other tables of two were given two). The food was good, but it was a little difficult to get the attention of our waiter and he didn’t check in with us as much or seem as friendly as the others we’ve had. In fact, it seemed like everyone was having problems getting the attention of their waiters that day. The staff seemed to look down at the tables, but completely overlook the people sitting at them (the staff circulating to leave food or clean up was still on point). However, when it came to picking up the check and tip, the server reappeared easily like magic.
Our food was actually pretty good but have to point out two major problems. Ok we're not 20-30 years old but that doesn't mean we need to be seated in no-man's land all the way in the dark space in back of the kitchen. We could see the hostesses having a soft conversation about "let's put these guys in the back".. yes they did move us to the front room after our request but this did not feel good. After all we are only 60ish. Second problem...how could both drink orders be wrong. Yes they did fix them after we mentioned it to our very personable waitress but come on guys. It was not that hard. So for a quick bite before Opera it was ok. But a return visit? Probably not!
I’m a regular at The Smith on the Upper West Side. Hands down the best outdoor seating al fresco dining experience in Manhattan, overlooking Broadway and Lincoln Center. Exceptional service, a wide and varied menu, and a staff that really engages with guests on the wine list and menu.
We got together for lunch with family members and chatted the hour and a half away. The waiter was friendly and very good at taking care of us. I had a salad that was perfect with some chicken added that was suggested by the waiter. I will be going back and will be telling my friends.
Met friends for Sunday brunch at 1 PM. Though we had reservations, the line went out the door and the welcome desk was overwhelmed, so it took nearly 15 minutes simply to get the attention of the host. We did eventually get seated. While our food was tasty and service satisfactory, the noise level was deafening. We four had to shout to hear each other--which I'm sure everybody else was doing too, which just added to the din. I thought prices were higher than they should've been and menu was a little lop-sided in its choices. If I ever return, I'll make a point of going at an off-hour and sitting at the bar...
