    I used to eat at The Smith fairly often, but since a few years ago the quality of the food started to degrade and prices started to go up. This will probably be my last visit. That's a shame because this was one of my favorite restaurants - the Bar Steak was my go-to, it used to be a very thick cut of high quality steak with a mountain of fries, and now, the price has gone up significantly and for that you get a tiny portion of thin cut, not so high quality meat (I suspect to cover the poor taste it was in a super spicy peppercorn sauce - I love peppercorn sauce but it is never this spicy). I don't want to blame the restaurant, inflation in rent, ingredients, and higher cost of staff has pushed many restaurants to raise prices and reduce portions/quality. Having said that I don't want to pay premium prices for a mediocre meal. BTW the service wasn't all that great either. It wasn't horrible but for example, the dish to contain the shells for the mussels arrived after all of the mussels were already eaten and the shells were all over the place, I never got a steak knife for my tiny steak (it was already sliced as Steak au Poivre often is), my beer glass sat empty or long periods of time, extra bread arrived only after asking twice...

    We could barely hear one another as we ate. Much too noisy eating inside. The food was very good.

    Loud and cramped. Indoors it is deafening. I dined outside and tables are too close together. Food is good and personnel lovely but could not wait to get out of there.

    Great service, great food. Rose sangria was very refreshing. Mac and cheese, caesar salad and spinch were delicious. And they always get you out on time for Lincoln Center.
