They have done an amazing job making people feel safe while still having amazing food and service.
Efficient, friendly service. One of the all to few restaurants that the waitstaff will not approach your table unless all guests have their masks on. Impressive!
This place never disappoints. Great place for families love the outdoor seating an ample heating sources for cooler nights.
Wonderful Thanksgiving dinner- we come every year!
wonderful outdoor Thanksgiving dinner perfectly enjoyed!! Thank you Smiths🙏😷🍷
Thanksgiving dinner was disappointing. The desert list on the required prix fix was not at all holiday and not very good. Stuffing was dry, no bread or rolls of any kind. Soup served room temp. Pot pie was shallow and had almost no vegetables, just turkey, so it was turkey and gravy in ramekin topped with thin crust, and the crust was not a traditional crust, not at all what you would expect. Service was lovely, they do what they can but the street around the corner table was lacking in ambience, I know they are maximizing tables but sad to be there by the bus stop and not in the front with view of Lincoln Center.
Outdoor seating would have been fine if it were not for an individual without a mask coming right up to the table and asking for money. It made us feel very unsafe.
Fantastic food and service. Taking all the protocols during Covid. Responsible, safe and fun place to dine out.
Perfect outdoor dining spot. Heaters. Tables spaced enough. Waiters masked. Food delicious. S’mores and chocolate chip cookies a must have.
Burger was outstanding! Will definitely be back again soon.
The Smith is always good. The staff and the food are consistently great!
Underwhelming food especially for the price.
Reservation for outdoor table as sundown - arrived early; they had table ready
Was caught in odd 4-5pm weekend menu changeover - more limited menu, not as full as lunch or dinner... we ordered apps and drinks, and waited for the full menu to kick in at 5.
Deck heaters worked perfectly; plexiglass up between close tables
Felt perfectly safe and comfortable; staff was terrific at working with customers and masks (and other precautions)
We even stayed and lingered for 20min after paying our check.
Highly recommend, especially for those seeking comfortable outdoor dining during COVID
Always delicious (though a tad overpriced) The Smith deserves accolades for their safety measures! Tables are spaced far apart, everyone’s temperature is taken, contact information is taken in case contact tracing is necessary and servers wait until your mask is up, before approaching your table.
The Smith is doing indoor dining right! The front door was wide open, the tables very far apart. I felt perfectly comfortable dining inside. The servers were absolutely wonderful.
I wish them all well during this incredibly difficult time.
The front doors were wide open and it was freezing inside!
Very cold inside, I understand its necessary because of COVID precautions, but still unpleasant to eat inside of. I had to move tables because of the draft
Great table in the very back and the service was perfect!
We dined outside in late November during covid and were perfectly comfortable sitting close to the heat lamps. It was one of the best covid dining experiences. Tables were spaced appropriately, servers were respectful and kept their distance, and temperatures were taken before sitting down. I highly recommend The Smith always and especially during these covid times.
Always the yummiest food and the loveliest service! Been going here for years, and plan to continue doing so.
Great service, food and wonderful adherence to safety protocols. Heat lamps are a plus too
The food is good as always. The indoor dining was basically outdoor dining, because the front doors/windows were wide open. Dress warmly and be prepared to eat and run during the fall/winter/early spring.
The Covid policy of this restaurant makes the experience annoying. Putting mask on every other minute is ruining the experience. I won’t go back until Covid is over.
Great food and friendly service
The food was good, I give it 4 out of 5. The service was ok, first of all, I asked them to turn on their heater ( specifically mentioned this in my requests during reservation) they resisted to do that and their reason was that it’s gonna be warm in the afternoon. While it was cold in the morning. So I had to have my coat on the whole time and still felt cold. My drink got cold in minutes. Their excuse didn’t seem reasonable to me. So I didn’t enjoy my experience as I much as I thought.
We had a reservation at 7:30 when we arrive we were taken right to our table.
Within 5 minutes we had water for our table. However we didn’t see our server until 7:55 and it wasn’t even our server. It was the supervisor / server which we stopped at asked him to ask the server to take our order. He offered to take our order and drink order.
From then on, we felt that was our server, however once we received the food the original server stopped by and we asked for napkins and he only brought out 1 napkin for 4 people.
I’m not sure what happens I have been here before and never complained about anything. Maybe he was busy, too many tables either way the supervisor/server was fantastic he took care of us. Comped our Mac and cheese which was phenomenal and brought out deserts for the table.
Although we weren’t looking for anything to be comped we appreciated him for doing so.
The food is fantastic here I would definitely visit again
Hopefully the server won’t be so busy.
The Smith never lets us down! Always always delicious, delightful staff, all around win.
Always good here
Overall ok; has a lot of outdoor seating but the seats under scaffolding have no atmosphere. The food was fine.
Incredible food, extremely efficient service. Nothing amiss. These guys always have a line, because its great on so many levels.
Come here often. Love supporting this place. Usually would sir at the bar but obviously we can’t do that at the moment. Everything was great, however our server just seemed over it. He wasn’t rude at all, just not friendly or attentive to anything we needed or anything those around us needed. I’m still going to be coming back as I love it here. The burger is my favorite, and the cocktails are always on point!
Ribeye missed a nice sear, cooked to temp requested. Large serving of fries, although more grease soaked than tender potato with crispy bite. Mac and cheese was over broiled and didn’t wow, would not order again.
Great experience! Lots of COVID precautions were taken, which I much appreciated
We sat outside with heaters for brunch when it was 45 degrees.
The service was impeccable, food good and COVID precautions excellent. Heaters worked well. Lots of space between tables.
This is the only restaurant I’ve been to that went from
Crowded, loud and mediocre service to 5 star in every way!!!!
Great food as always. Service was good. Sat outside on a cold day. The heaters were not nearby. ;-(
The smith is always good.
They get Covid safety Protocols right. We ate inside and felt comfortable.
Great service, all employees showing great commitment to safety. Missed you all! Thank you!
Good place for outdoor dining.
We ate outside one evening for dinner. Outside due to the pandemic conditions. Their outdoor dining setup is excellent, however the heat lamp nearest to us (the northeastern-most lamp, near the building) was not working. The food was excellent. Both the Smith Burger and the Blackened Pork Chop are highly recommended. The jalapeño cheddar grits were delicious and not too spicy. Inside under normal circumstances, it's cacophonous. It was actually more pleasant in terms of conversation to eat outside. I recommend The Smith, Lincoln Sq., and encourage you to not be overly concerned about it being outside even in chilly weather.
The price is a tad steep. It's OK value but not outstanding value.
Looking at the larger picture given these unusual times: Many restaurants across the city are increasing regular prices (with or without a pandemic surcharge as well) in an attempt to make up for the huge revenue drop caused by the pandemic. While that is understandable, it comes with risks. After all, diners' incomes in many cases, such as in the case of my partner and I, have also taken a hit due to the pandemic. Personally, these price increases are becoming a disincentive for my partner and I for eating out more often in an attempt to support our local restaurants. But at the same time, restaurants face new expenses related to safety protocols and outdoor parklets. It's a vicious cycle (poorer diners, poorer restaurants, increased expenses) and speaks to the desperate need for targeted federal stimulus to small business highly reliant on in-person experience, not only restaurants (which can at least deliver) but event venues/halls, performance spaces, and similar businesses, who literally have no revenue.
Please, urge your elected federal representatives to pass the RESTART Act as a bridge to the spring of 2021 and to what can hopefully be the true start of a process of returning NYC businesses to pre-pandemic robustness...those that survive.
