The staff was great. Very friendly, kind and accommodating. The food was fairly good. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. I had one of their steaks. The portion was on the smaller side. The plate presentation was sort of messy. The steak slightly over cooked. It was all very tasty though and my date liked it. I would try it again.

I’m persnickety, so when I very find little to detract from an overall positive experience, It’s a hit. This place is a winner! Ambient noise was borderline distracting however everything else met or exceeded my expectations.

Honestly I had a pretty disappoint love byexperience. I love The Smith, which is why I wanted to have my birthday dinner there. Unfortunately the fact that i notated this in my reservation resulted in 0 hospitality or acknowledgement of the fact it was my birthday. I even gave the hostess stand my flowers and birthday balloon to hold onto while we ate. You would think they would ask if it was one of our birthdays. nOPe! And they didn’t tell our server either. My boyfriend had to tell them while I was in the bathroom and I received the most lackluster cake (no singing or acknowledgment, it was literally placed in front of me like a sandwich) and we were charged $9 for the cake.

I have been to the smith a couple of times already and is always the same experience. So food is normal, not great but it isn’t bad either. Still the price is good, so you are actually paying average for regular food.
Service is regular too. This time we were sited between two tables which were very close to each other. I asked the hosted if she could move both tables to the right (there was plenty of space on the right side). She said: you can ask the ladies and move it yourself. Whenever I go to a place I like to be pleased and feel comfortable - that is why we are asked for a tip when we get the bill right??. .. anyways both ladies moved to the right, I mean we were all feeling uncomfortable and it was awkward sitting sooooo close to each other. So far, average experience. Then we order our food, we got a starter to share and two main dishes. We had our dishes first and the starter came in after.
Conclusion, regular price, regular food, regular service.

My wife and I went to The Smith/East Village for Sunday brunch. The food was exceptionally good: the avocado toast with poached eggs is to-die-for, with thin, crispy toast and a delicate layer of frisee on top; side of slab bacon, succulent; delicious latte. The top floor is loud, louder, loudest, with no sound baffling and loud, blaring music, so be prepared for that. The basement room is the place to go, we found out when we went to use the (must-be-seen!) rest rooms. Beautiful, cozy, room, lovely bar, colored glass panels all around, one of the nicest dining rooms in the city, but please don't tell anybody, so we can go down there next time. :-)

We got there early. It was fairly quiet. By the time we left, the place was almost filled. It is
noisy when crowded. However, the food is good and reasonable. Our waiter was special.
Took care of my granddaughter for her 16th birthday. Gave a free appetizer and a candle on dessert. Would definitely go again.

The food here was honestly really good, but I ordered steak with Fries and 90% of the plate was covered in fries. Like an inappropriate amount. There are starving kids in the city and you’re over here serving THAT portion? Not cool.

We went for the mac & cheese after learning it had been rated one of the best in the city. There was 8 of us. A mac & cheese and drink each and $400 later (including tip), it was ok but way overrated and overpriced. I could've made better for $4 and saved myself $396

The food was fine and reasonably priced, but the overall experience was just dreadful. The noise level was painful, and shouting across a small table to be heard was unpleasant. The greeters were cordial and our waitress was lovely, but I have two objections to our treatment. As soon as my companion finished, his plate was whisked off the table, leaving me with a significant part of my lunch still to finish. I had always understood that proper restaurant etiquette was to leave plates in place until the final person has finished, so as not to create a sense of being rushed. (There were four empty tables for two around us so there was no apparent reason to hurry us along.) Then, while I was still finishing my lunch, our check was placed on the table, when we had not requested it and had not even been asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. We had been seated for only 45 minutes at this point so there was no question of our lingering unnecessarily. Maybe this passes for decent restaurant training but I wouldn't recommend The Smith, and I certainly won't be back.

Every time I visit the Smith it's a great experience. Can always count on the food being delicious and a menu that has options for everyone to enjoy. The atmosphere is energetic and fun without it being so loud you can't talk to the people at your table. Service is always great. I went here with two of my friends from out of town who were visiting and wanted to show them a great NYC restaurant that doesn't have to work too hard and the Smith is the perfect place to do that. The brussel sprouts & salmon are my go to's that never disappoint.

Food at all Smiths is reliably good. Service always good. All of them are so loud. Average age 25.
Fish cooked well. Chicken dish and pasta dish (w short ribs) very good
Sides good but brussel sprouts needed more time in the oven. Cauliflower and mashed potatoes were good.

Great deal for brunch - you get a free cocktail or fresh squeezed juice with any of the brunch entrees. The hardest part is choosing what to get. Lively atmosphere. The downstairs is especially cool.

Good food, charming and lovely staff, obviously popular for a Sunday brunch, so noisy we had to shout to make ourselves heard across the table. If it weren’t for the noise, I would recommend it highly. But because of the noise, which is likely unfixable, I won’t return unless the timing is off peak.
