The Smith - East Village

First time going, will be back. Food is a little pricey but when you see the portions it’s worth it.
Another visit, this time with out of town friends after a walkabout through the East Village. The restaurant was perfect for this occasion. We arrived almost an hour early, and were seated right away. Cocktails were delicious and prompt, and the bread was readily refilled. Appetizers: caeser salad, mac & cheese, shishito peppers. Nothing was left. My dinner was the pork chops with jalepeno grits, the pork was perfect, and my mouth is watering over the grits as I write this. The others had steak frites and filet mignon, and everyone was very pleased with their orders. Service remained attentive, though as we lingered over the dessert, the host did pass the table several times taking notes, and we did feel a bit of pressure to leave. It was a great night, and I was especially happy it met the expectations of our guests.
Stopped in for brunch while on a brief vacation. Had oysters, bloody Mary’s, the French toast with a side of maple sausage, and the short rib has with grits. Most incredible meal I’ve had in a long time. Service was great. Tables are a little cramped and the place is quite loud but totally expected since the food is so amazing.
I had a great time, didn’t really had to wait at all and the service was on point. Me and my date really enjoyed it.
Consistently delicious food, extraordinary service, and awesome ambiance. What a great experience with this classic, american bistro
Love this place, never disappoints and easy for a big party with a bunch of different dietary needs.
They were completely indulgent. The service - and our server, Jess - were exceptional. As a matter of course they brought bottles of water and seltzer to the table. They let me taste wines. Our dishes were fabulous and interesting. It was great.
The Breakfast Pot Pie and Jhonny Benedict are a must try. And these go extremely well with their Mimosas. Looking forward to visit this place again.
Perfect place for Sunday brunch with lots of choices and delicious food.
They won’t seat parties till they all arrive. Friends ended up being late in traffic and we had to wait and could have ordered drinks and apps. Very disappointing.
A wonderful selection for brunch....love creative egg dishes. Have been trying different ones each time...so tasty and full of flavor...nice combinations of food elements.
The place gets very noisy, acoustics not good...sometimes difficult to hear conversations.
Always crowded, but worth the wait.
Always a great experience.
We had a great time. The food was great, the service was great, the drinks were great and the décor is really great.
Brunch menu is good
Whenever we visit NYC we find ourselves at the Smith! It is a great spot for any meal, anytime of the day. The food, the bar, the service is always great. Jared took care of us at brunch and he was fantastic too.
Cannot recommend The Smith enough!!!
Noisy but good vibe. Expect to have fun though and good food.
Made us wait 40 minutes after our reservation for a table. Then said they were apologizing by bringing us an order of chips with melted blue cheese on them which was just not appetizing anyway. Of course after saying the chips were on the house, we come to find them on our bill at the end and had to correct our waiter and get a new check. Really would not recommend this crowded restaurant
Food is really good. It’s a bit pricey but you end up getting a lot so it’s worth it. The burger was huge!!! French toast was huge and amazing. The cornbread eggs Benedict so super good. We loved everything and they were very accommodating while our sisters train was late. Great experience.
Always good. Service was great, food was great. Very loud though if you’re looking for quiet conversation.
Disappointed we were not informed of limited menu due to a previous kitchen fire.
Had to reconsider what to eat when presented with limited menu. Went there after reviewing menu on line with dining choices already decided.
Our server was lovely and did her best to accommodate under the circumstances.
I would check before going back to see that kitchen is fully operational. But will be back!!!
Always love the smith. Wait staff is hit or miss - some are super friendly, some are not A+. The food is amazing and they do not skimp on portions. I will never stop coming here!
We visited The Smith-East Village yesterday. We often frequent the other The Smith locations, but we were i pleasantly surprised with our experience at this location. At some point, there was a kitchen fire that has limited their ability to provide a full service menu (this is not highlighted anywhere for customers to make an informed decision). Thus, the items we wanted were unavailable. Moreover, the choices that were available were less than appetizing and/or cold. Our waitress was amazing but the food was a major disappointment.
It was great! My boyfriend wanted grey goose in his Moscow mule and the waitress forgot to mention there was an up charge and gave us two shots on the house! Great service!!
We love eating at The Smith. This was the first time at this location. They had a kitchen fire in December, so they currently have a reduced menu.
Hope they will be able to recover from the kitchen fire soon and have their full menu back up.
Love The Smith, especially this location. Looking forward to you bringing back the mac&cheese and tomato soup!
Miss the old menu - omelettes, free cocktail, etc.
Amazing service and delicious food, as always. If you want reliable, enjoyable dining any time of day, visit the East Village Smith! Not sure how they dress the salad so perfectly, but they never fail to do so. And same with the mint in the fruit salad - yum! We tried the potato waffles for the first time and it won’t be the last! Great for vegetarians and meat eaters.
Getting a table and high chair was seamless but the food took a while.
We were going to look at bridal gowns and decided to book this place based on menu and our availability with time. After getting there and getting seated the menu stated there was a limited menu due to a kitchen fire. Something like that should really be posted on open table I would have booked somewhere else. Our food was good. But it wasn’t what I wanted but with a time constraint we decided to just stay.
Great food service and atmosphere for NYE. Would recommend
They had a kitchen fire with a very limited menu. Dishes were delivered without sides described on the menu and had to be requested.
Wouldn’t recommend visiting this location of The Smith right now. They recently had a fire and have a very limited menu and have even run out of things on that menu. Pretty limiting for vegetarians specifically. Come back in a few months once they have their full kitchen back.
The staff could not have been nicer. There was an unfortunate event that happened at another smith restaurant which caused them to be shut down for the night. Our reservation was personally changed. We were compensated with the change by being offered free appetizers and dessert
Great place to go for dinner and drinks before a show at Webster Hall. Great food and Service!
The steak and the chicken were both fabulous and the ambiance was lively and comfortable.
Only one of our entrees came out. Had to wait about 20 minutes for the second entree even though both entrees were ordered at the same time.
I made a reservation for 4 people. Two we’re running late. They still would not seat until entire party was there which negates the whole reason for making the reservation. They were seating walk ups in front of my reservation. Only when I pointed out that they were seating 2s and 3s at 4-tops ahead of my reservation for 4 did they relent and give me a table.
